Mise Éire // I am Ireland
This video was recorded for the centenary of the 1916 rising.
Since starting back this season as a tour guide a question constantly asked is “why are you so proud”. In some respects this video goes some way in explaining my total dedication and love for this small island. So to all my travelling friends as promised here’s my answer.
It’s a conviction we share throughout the four provinces, it binds us as friends without question. It’s unwritten yet there and forever in our minds and thoughts. When asked what makes me Proud I pause, I smile and I simply reply “I’m Irish”.
It’s our shared history, culture and heritage not forgetting friendship community respect and honour. We are a socialist republic, no longer am I alone, I am one of many and it is my duty as a citizen to care not just for my immediate family but for my neighbours and our nation as a whole.
Our proclamation worded it perfectly, if you would like an original copy please contact: buy or download.
To be proud is to give and here I give, here I live, here I am Ireland.
Your friend Phil

Mise Éire - Walfrid's Reel
Brother Walfrid (18 May 1840 - 17 April 1915) is the religious name of Andrew Kerins, an Irish Catholic Marist Brother and founder of Celtic Football Club.
Walfrid was born of John Kerins and Elizabeth Flynn in Ballymote, a village in south County Sligo in north west Ireland. He studied teaching and in 1864 joined The Marist Brothers Teaching Order. He moved to Scotland in the 1870s and taught at St. Marys School and the Sacred Heart School where he was appointed headmaster in 1874. He also helped found St. Joseph's College, Dumfries.
In 1888, he founded The Celtic Football Club as a means of raising funds for the poor and deprived in the east end of Glasgow. In 1893 Walfrid was sent by his religious order to London's East End. Here he continued his work, organizing football matches for and showing great kindness to the barefoot children in the districts of Bethnal Green and Bow. The charity established by Walfrid was named The Poor Children's Dinner Table.
He died on 17 April 1915, leaving a surviving brother, Bernard, in Cloghboley, County Sligo. Walfrid is buried in the Mount St. Michael Cemetery in Dumfries.
