Bright Angel Lodge , Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona, United States
A brief look at the simplest (and cheapest) accommodation at Bright Angel Lodge on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon and my first walk from the cabin to the Canyon edge...it really is very close.
The video starts with my first look inside the cabin (I am carrying all my bags and filming) which is the cheapest I could get but had to booked months in advance ($140 +tax per night room only). I then show a clip of my first walk to the canyon edge, only 60m or so from my cabin, which also happens to be the furthest one from the edge. Absolutely brilliant placing for stunning view the next morning.
The room was very basic, summed up by an old, non flat-screen TV. (Haven't seen one of those for years but still better than none at all which was the case at the north rim 2 days later.) No air conditioning but this really wasn't a problem, even in mid-August although the fan is noisy and light sleepers might struggle.
I didn't use any other facilities in the Lodge so cannot comment on how good or bad they are compared with other places. Overall, for access to the Canyon, I would have to say the cabins are perfect.

Grand Canyon - Bright Angel Trail - FULL VIDEO TOUR
Bright Angel Trail is THE trail which descends into the Grand Canyon from the South Rim (The South Rim is the most frequented destination as it has the famous horseshoe bend etc). We started really late in the afternoon, so we hiked until the darkness caught us. It's crazy how sudden elevation loss can make you feel extremely dizzy and woozy. Climbing back up and out can also instantly make you feel better. Definately a strange experience with that. There were campgrounds along the way (Which you need to pre-book) and also toilets etc. If you make it to the bottom, you can also hike back up the North Kaibab Trail (to the North Rim) and make it an incredibly long hike.

The Grand Canyon (Hopi: Ongtupqa, Yavapai: Wi:kaʼi:la, Navajo: Bidááʼ Haʼaztʼiʼ Tsékooh, Spanish: Gran Cañón) is a steep-sided canyon carved by the Colorado River in Arizona, United States. The Grand Canyon is 277 miles (446 km) long, up to 18 miles (29 km) wide and attains a depth of over a mile (6,093 feet or 1,857 meters). The canyon and adjacent rim are contained within Grand Canyon National Park, the Kaibab National Forest, Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument, the Hualapai Indian Reservation, the Havasupai Indian Reservation and the Navajo Nation. President Theodore Roosevelt was a major proponent of preservation of the Grand Canyon area, and visited it on numerous occasions to hunt and enjoy the scenery.
Nearly two billion years of Earth's geological history have been exposed as the Colorado River and its tributaries cut their channels through layer after layer of rock while the Colorado Plateau was uplifted. While some aspects about the history of incision of the canyon are debated by geologists, several recent studies support the hypothesis that the Colorado River established its course through the area about 5 to 6 million years ago. Since that time, the Colorado River has driven the down-cutting of the tributaries and retreat of the cliffs, simultaneously deepening and widening the canyon.
For thousands of years, the area has been continuously inhabited by Native Americans, who built settlements within the canyon and its many caves. The Pueblo people considered the Grand Canyon a holy site, and made pilgrimages to it. The first European known to have viewed the Grand Canyon was García López de Cárdenas from Spain, who arrived in 1540.

Falling Down Bright Angel Trail in the Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona May 20 2019
The trail originates at Grand Canyon Village on the south rim of the Grand Canyon, descending 4380 feet to the Colorado River. It has an average grade of 10% along its entire length. At trail's end, the River Trail continues another 1.9 miles to the Bright Angel Campground and Phantom Ranch. These two trails combined are the most common method used to access Phantom Ranch by hikers and mules.
Two trails cross or join the Bright Angel Trail, the first being an intersection with the Tonto Trail at Indian Garden, leading toward the Monument Use Area to the west, and to the South Kaibab Trail 4.7 miles (7.6 km) to the east. The second is the River Trail, which officially begins when the Bright Angel Trail reaches the Colorado River at the River Resthouse (although some consider that the Bright Angel Trail officially ends after crossing the Colorado River at the Silver Bridge).

The beautiful Grand Canyon in all of it's glory! These shots were taken along the south rim area, at Mather Point, and Bright Angel. If you go to Las Vegas, you should spend one of your days taking a bus tour here. It is well worth the 4+ hour journey.

Hike along the Bright Angel Trail of the Grand Canyon, Arizona early April 1982
n 1965, the Eastman Kodak Company introduced a new film format: Super 8. This format was based on a drop-in cassette with 50 ft. (12m) of film, that gave about three and a half minutes of filming at 18 frames per second. Thereafter, until the early 1980’s, the Super 8 film format was extremely popular for shooting home-movies, and keen enthusiasts still have many 50ft. reels of Super 8 film stored away.
In recent years, many small businesses offer conversion of Super 8 movies frame-by-frame to a digital format (telecine), but typically to a DVD disk without any image adjustments such as contrast, color saturation, etc. For keen hobbyists, most telecine equipment is extremely expensive; however, a less expensive option is now being offered by Wolverine Data, and I’ve used the Wolverine film2digital MovieMaker frame-by-frame product to convert my old Super 8 movies into MP4 digital files, that I then edit using ROXIO Creator. In particular, I use the editing software to convert the 30 fps MP4 files to the original 18 fps of the Super 8 movies (i.e., I reduce the frame rate by a factor of 0.6). I also slightly reduce the image contrast, and if necessary the brightness, saturation and even the component red, green and blue colors. I then save the final edited digital file in a WMV 9 1280x720 format. (The original Super 8 movies, of course, were in a 4:3 format, but I’ve saved the edited digital file as a 16:9 format, with black bars to each side, so as to match the present-day LCD TV picture format).
This video, originally filmed as a Super 8 home-movie, was taken in April 1982 on a family trip to the Grand Canyon. On the first day, we viewed the Grand Canyon from the rim. On the second day, we hiked down and back the Bright Angel Trail, past the Indian Gardens and on out to the Plateau Point (a 12 mile, 8 hour round-trip hike!).
Bright Angel Cabin Tour: Grand Canyon
(MELLOW WANDERER) When Mellow Wanderer planned a South Rim stay a year before our visit, Bright Angel Lodge was our choice. The cabins are right on the rim. We reserved one with a partial rim view. To our surprise, we got more than we expected. The main cabin window looks-out directly to the rim. Plus, a second door led us to a small patio and sitting area, which was just a few steps to the rim trail. The location was ideal and within walking distance to everything: lodge restaurants, overlooks, Grand Canyon Railroad Depot, Bright Angel Trail, and the bus terminals where tourists take free shuttles to the numerous points of interest.
