Giant Dunes At Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore - MI, USA
This was our final stop on our camping trip. Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is a United States National Lakeshore located along the northwest coast of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan in Leelanau and Benzie counties near Empire, Michigan. The park covers a 35-mile-long (56 km) stretch of Lake Michigan's eastern coastline, as well as North and South Manitou islands. This Northern Michigan park was established primarily because of its outstanding natural features, including forests, beaches, dune formations, and ancient glacial phenomena. The lakeshore also contains many cultural features including the 1871 South Manitou Island Lighthouse, three former stations of the Coast Guard (formerly the Life-Saving Service) and an extensive rural historic farm district. In 2011, the area won the title of The Most Beautiful Place in America from Good Morning America.[3] In 2014, a section of the park was named the Sleeping Bear Dunes Wilderness by the United States Congress.

The Legend of the Sleeping Bear
Anyone who has ever visited the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes in Northern Michigan knows their beauty. But do you know the Legend of the Sleeping Bear? Find out in this inspirational story.
Top things to do at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in Michigan
Are there mountains in northern Michigan? You bet! Locals lightheartedly refer to them as “mountains of sand” otherwise known as the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Part of the national park system since 1970, Sleeping Bear is one of America’s most profoundly beautiful landscapes: a 64-mile curve of sweeping vistas, miles of perfect freshwater beaches, forested wilderness islands, miles of hiking trails and the paved Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail, is a multi-use pathway that runs from the northern end of the park to a point just south of Empire. A year-round attraction, it is a special place where time slows down and where you can connect with each other, yourself or the park itself. And while your cell service may fade in and out, the one thing that will remain constant is a personal recharge of energy and gratitude.

The Incredible Sleeping Bear Dunes at Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive in Michigan
On this Airstream Life vLog, we take advantage of our dry camping location and head into Sleeping Bear Dunes to see the sights. We decide to do the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive since we only have one day in the area and we want to see as much as we can. So we start off bright and early even though it's still a bit drizzly.
We take you to all 12 stops on the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive. Our favorites (along with most people's) are stops 9 & 10 which is the Lake Michigan Overlook and the Sleeping Bear Dunes Overlook. WOW! We have hiked a bunch of different dunes in Idaho and Colorado but this dune is definitely the steepest. There is no way we would hike down it (and then back up). People were crawling up on their hands and knees. Apparently, a number of people get stuck every year and there are fees to be rescued. Crazy!
We really loved the drive and were very surprised to find something like this in Michigan. It reminded us of the ocean, not a lake!
Stay tuned in the next video when we head in Glen Arbor to do a little exploring.

The Sleeping Bear Dunes - Empire/Glen Arbor, Michigan/Maple City Township - 2019 - [HD]
The Sleeping Bear Dunes - I haven't been here since I was REALLY little. So young that I vaguely remember it, but nonetheless was nice to visit. I had my leg day here no doubt too, having an 8.4 Bicycle ride and then climbing up the entire hill (all 3 of them) that make of The Sleeping Bear Dunes. So, no need for leg day this week haha. Anyway, it was great. However, I just vidded the return back from the top back to the bottom. Great scenery and the views are amazing. I suggest that you visit just to really experience the landscape, the sights and sounds, not to mention get a work out in the process of doing so.
Platte River Campground - Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore - MI
A great campground that we came across while in northwest Michigan in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Located in Holland, Michigan, it's just a stone throw away from beautiful Glen Arbor and historic fishtown, Leland.
This is by far one of the best national park campgrounds we have seen. It offers electricity at many of its sites, bathrooms with hot showers, and more. There are many trails nearby to go take a hike, or you can canoe/kayak down the Platte River. Lake Michigan is less than 2 miles away.
