OGDEN — A Thursday fashion show at Weber State University may be fun for those in attendance, but the event also will serve those in need. The 11:30 a.m. event will be held on the main floor of the WSU Union Building and will be hosted by the new Miss Weber County, Alexis Larsen. The 19-year-old South Ogden resident will hold “Warm Up to Foster Care” as a way to benefit Utah’s foster care program, which is her platform in the Miss America Scholarship program. The free fashion show will feature WSU top athletes and students in the professional sales department. “We believe this will draw a big crowd,” Larsen said. “I am trying to get the community as aware as I can of their needs. I am trying to get whatever I can to try to take care of them,” she said of children in Utah’s foster care program. “Her expectations in the year ahead are to generate sponsors within the community to help make a difference in the foster care program, which will have a strong impact on the lives of foster children,” said a press release from the Miss Weber County organization. “Alexis has a special love for foster children and has had some humbling experiences that she will cherish forever.” Larsen said when youth enter the foster care program they have nothing. “There are just so many kids coming in and out of foster care,” she said. “When they come into the Christmas Box, they want them to feel like this is their home and that their parents are taking care of them. I know this touches so many people's hearts and so many people are willing to donate.” She said a number of businesses have donated winter items for the youth in foster care as well as clothing for the fashion show. Those businesses include The Buckle, Smith & Edwards, Men’s Warehouse, Just Girl Stuff, ADS Motor Sports and Minky Couture. Larsen also is collecting new winter apparel and monetary donations that will benefit the foster care program. “The clothes need to be newer,” Larsen said. “They don't have to be brand new.” Those interested in donating may bring donations to the fashion show or contact Miss Weber County at mwcpageant@gmail.com. Larsen also has placed donation boxes throughout the area where winter clothes also may be deposited for foster care children. They are at Getaway Today, the Eccles Community Art Center, Men’s Warehouse and in various spots around the WSU campus, including in the professional sales building. Larsen said those boxes will be moved around in the community. Those wishing to make donations after this week may email Larsen at the above address for a current list of the box locations. SALT LAKE CITY — Some members of hearing impaired communities say they couldn’t be more excited as the Weber State University Val A. Browning Center for the Performing Arts becomes the first large venue in the state of Utah where they’ll be able to hear clearly. New technology capable of broadcasting stereo sound right into a person’s hearing aid or cochlear impant will debut Thursday, Sept. 24, in the Browning Center’s Austad Auditorium. The Browning Center’s Allred Theater and Eccles Theater also have the new capability. “I feel like getting season tickets to the Browning Center,” Marilyn Call, director of the Utah Division of Services to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, said. She was speaking at the University of Utah Speech Language Hearing Clinic. “You are getting a direct connection right to your ear,” she said. “(Hearing aids) become like individual speakers.” Call, 61, of South Jordan, has a progressive hearing loss that has worsened over time since she was in college. Frank Bradshaw, Browning Center director, said enhancing the experience for audience members is precisely why the new technology was added. “We have an obligation to the community to bring the highest performance,” he said. “Our patrons will no longer have to have the stigma of wearing a headset or a collar.” “Everyone is excited to learn that this technology is available to them,” Anne Lobdell, audiologist at the University of Utah Speech Language Hearing Clinic, said. “Utah is doing a good job. There is a lot of momentum,” she said, noting a new law that will require those with hearing impairments to receive more information about the new technology. She said the law will open the door for the hearing impaired to better ask for what they want. Lobdell said some smaller venues in Utah that cater specifically to the hearing impaired already have Loop technology and she believes several larges ones will be investing in the equipment soon. Lobbyists and backers of the new law will be among the first to experience the Browning Center’s new technology as the venue’s staff donated a handful of tickets for a Thursday, Sept. 24 show. Anyone can take advantage of the Loop technology, not just those who have hearing aids or cochlear implants, Bradshaw said. They have headsets at the service desk for anyone who wants to experience amplified hearing. More information about the new technology and how to access it is available on the Browning Center website. Thursday’s debut performance will feature the Utah Symphony sponsored by the Ogden Symphony Ballet Association. Called the Sci-Fi Spectacular, the performance will feature music by John Williams, including scores from Star Wars, E.T., Superman, and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Tickets can be purchased on the Symphony Ballet website or by visiting the ticket office located at 638 E. 26th St., Ogden. Office hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. You may reach reporter JaNae Francis at 801-625-4228. Follow her on Twitter at @JaNaeFrancisSE or like her on Facebook.

Underground Crew is a professional all styles dance company, always striving, growing, learning, and sharing our artistry since it started in 2011. We focus on training and sharing in different street styles and studio trained styles along with lifestyle skills such as teamwork, commitment, dedication, self-empowerment, self-worth, excelling, and giving. Since we first started 4 years ago, we have continuously connected with schools volunteering to teach dance and life skills. We also run a youth program, Jr. Underground, where youth dancers come together from different cultures and studios of dance and have the opportunity to experience a professional production. Underground also loves to enter dance battles and connect with many community events and performances.
We are proud to present our next production WANDERLUST. Integrating all different styles into impulses through travel & time, Underground is putting on it's 5th professional dance production. Breakdancing, Jazz, Whacking, House, Contemporary, Krump, Popping, and Urban Movement!
This show Wanderlust consists of 36 Underground members and 37 Jr.Underground dancers, guest dancers/artists from our local Utah community, works from guest choreographers Liz Imperio (world renowned choreographer/director), Charlie Dando (House and Hip Hop cultural artist), as well as choreography works from our very own Underground members.
Although each season we improve and get better with our productions, one of things that we've struggled to achieve is being able to have enough sets and props to really portray what we have in the artistic minds of the choreographers due to lack of finances. Underground is really hoping to step it up with our next show this year as far as that goes. Reaching this Kickstarter goal will help us achieve a lot more of the sets and props we need.
Another new thing for us this season is we are introducing ourselves with this show to a new location. We are opening this season's show up in Ogden, UT.

SUMMARY
=======
Salt Lake City (often shortened to Salt Lake and abbreviated as SLC) is the capital and the most populous municipality of the U.S. state of Utah. With an estimated population of 190,884 in 2014, the city is the core of the Salt Lake City metropolitan area, which has a population of 1,153,340 (2014 estimate). Salt Lake City is further situated within a larger metropolis known as the Salt Lake City–Ogden–Provo Combined Statistical Area. This region is a corridor of contiguous urban and suburban development stretched along an approximately 120-mile (190 km) segment of the Wasatch Front, comprising a population of 2,423,912 as of 2014. It is one of only two major urban areas in the Great Basin (the other is Reno, Nevada).
The world headquarters of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) is located in Salt Lake City. The city was originally founded in 1847 by Brigham Young, and other followers of the church, who were seeking to escape religious persecution in the mid-western United States. The Pioneers, as they would come to be known, at first encountered an arid, inhospitable valley that they then extensively irrigated and cultivated, thereby establishing the foundation to sustain the area's large population of today. Salt Lake City's street grid system is based on the north-south east-west grid plan developed by early church leaders, with the Salt Lake Temple constructed at the city's center.
Due to its proximity to the Great Salt Lake, the city was originally named Great Salt Lake City; however, the word great was dropped from the official name in 1868 by the 17th Utah Territorial Legislature.Immigration of international members of the church, mining booms, and the construction of the first transcontinental railroad initially brought economic growth, and the city was nicknamed the Crossroads of the West. It was traversed by the Lincoln Highway, the first transcontinental highway, in 1913. Two major cross-country freeways, I-15 and I-80, now intersect in the city. Salt Lake City has developed a strong outdoor recreation tourist industry based primarily on skiing, and hosted the 2002 Winter Olympics. It is the industrial banking center of the United States.
