Keighley and Worth Valley Railway: In this UK travel vlog we hop on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway to visit Haworth, England - a beautiful West Yorkshire village famed for being home of the Bronte Sisters - by steam train. After discovering what you can do with an afternoon in Haworth (what to see and where to eat and drink) we visit the Rail Story in Ingrow, which is included in the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway day rover ticket.
The Keighley and Worth Valley Railway runs both diesel and steam trains along a 4 and a half mile line. By purchasing a day rover you can not only ride the line as many times as you like, but you have the choice to visit different stations along the way: Haworth, Ingrow, Oxenhope, Damems & Oakworth (which was a filming location of The Railway Children!).

Where we going? Haworth! How we getting there? Steam train!
If you like steam trains pretty villages and beautiful countryside then the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway could be right up your street. Originally built in 1867 and set in the heart of Bronte Country, the railway is almost 5 miles long and has six different stations you can stop at. The standard day rover ticket cost 18 pounds however if you travel to Keighley by train rather than car you can buy it as an add-on for 12 pounds. We then also applied our two
together rail card discount on top of this which brought the cost down to 7 pounds 90.
We're in Haworth! We join the onlookers to bid farewell to the steam train before leaving the station and heading towards Main street. Rather than heading directly to Main
Street we turn left to take the scenic route through Haworth Central Park
We're walking up to the Main Street in Haworth and we're going in via this little park
which is really pretty. There's lots of flowers and there's some
sort of sculpture over there which we're going to take a look at. It's made of 2p's!
Haworth is a picturesque Yorkshire village set at the edge of the moors and is famed for been home of the Bronte sisters. Filled with cobble streets, charming cottages and independent shops, Haworth is a popular destination for tourists.
There are so many different types of shops on this street: jewellery, plants and ornaments, paintings, clothes, woodcraft, aromatherapy oils, miscellaneous gifts, books and records, clocks, guitars, sweets, and chocolates and we just got free sample!
We googled where was good to go for lunch in Haworth and this came up so this is where we're going to go. Sat at the top of Main Street, Haworth Steam Brewery is a micro brewery. It
It also offers home-cooked food an extensive list of gins. [...]
The Bronte parsonage is the former home of the Bronte family and the place where the Bronte sisters wrote their famous novels. you can now visit the parsonage museum to view the collection of family belongings including books letters household items and personal possessions.
We're heading back to the train station now. We're getting that one to Oxenhope.
We're on the train again! As Oxenhope is at the end of the line you can get off the train and watch the steam engine detached from the carriages and turn around before you leave.
Our final stop of the day was Ingrow. Your day Rover ticket allows you free entry to the Railway Museum here you can view walk around and sit in Victorian and Edwardian carriages.
We were just chatting to a guy down there who works here who is saying to look out for
all the plaques that are on these carriages as a lot them were used in films and
TV shows and it tells you what they've been in.
Our train back to Keighley was a diesel train. You can check on the official
railway timetable which I'll link in the description below to see the timings of
the different types of trains.

The Keighley and Worth Valley Railway is a 5-mile-long branch line that served mills and villages in the Worth Valley and is now a heritage railway line in West Yorkshire, England. It runs from Keighley to Oxenhope. It connects to the national rail network at Keighley railway station.
On 6 November 1892 the deviation line between Haworth and Oakworth through Mytholmes Tunnel was opened and the original route abandoned. The deviation was built as a condition of the buy out of the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway by the Midland Railway. The need for the deviation was to avoid a large wooden trestle viaduct that crossed a mill pond, as the locals believed the viaduct was unsafe, and supposedly many alighted at Oakworth and continued on foot to Haworth to avoid crossing the viaduct. The original design for the deviation was to skirt the mill pond then through a cutting to rejoin the original formation. However, during construction the material in the cutting proved to be unstable, resulting in the construction of the short Mytholmes Tunnel. The original trestle viaduct can be seen in a picture hanging in the booking hall of Oakworth station.
On weekends - in particular Saturday mornings, local residents who live in Oxenhope, Haworth, Oakworth and Ingrow catch the early morning diesel service to Keighley, returning later on steam hauled services. During the weekday outside of the summer months, locals instead use the local bus services.
As a privately owned heritage railway, the line does not specifically serve commuters; however, a study by Ove Arup & Partners funded by Metro looked at the feasibility of a daily commuter service between Oxenhope and Keighley in 2009. After the first stage of the study was released, Metro stated concerns about a lack of funding and available rolling stock, meaning that services are unlikely to run in the short to medium term.
KWVR has a large collection of both steam and diesel locomotives, as well as supporting carriages and other rolling stock. The railway has amassed a large collection of Vintage Carriages over the years. Some are used to carry passengers on specially selected open days.

Vintage Trains Day Keighley & Worth Valley Railway 05/08/2018
Hello & Welcome to Harnetty Railways.
In this video we visit The Keighley & Worth Valley Railway during the last day of their Vintage Trains running day of 2018.
The locomotives running during the day of our visit was ex American S160 2-8-0 5820 Big Jim who was running with the railway's MK1 set. While the vintage stock was hauled by ex LNWR 0-6-2 Coal Tank 1054.
We start at Keighley as we see 5820 running round ready for the 1st run of the day from Keighley. Soon it was time to go as 5820 departs for Oxenhope.
We next see the arrival of the coal tank with the vintage stock here we join her train for the trip to Oxenhope.
We travel inside the old gentleman's saloon the saloon that starred in The 1970 film The Railway Children.
We have some interesting shots inside the saloon including going away film shots from Ingrow West & Haworth inspired by 1 of the famous railway photographers the late Ivo Peters.
At Damens we pass 5820 Big Jim as the S160 heads back to Keighley. Soon we were on the move again as we head for Oakworth & Haworth before arriving into Oxenhope we a brass band welcoming the train as we pull into the station.
At Oxenhope we leave the vintage train as we have a look in the museum of some of the engines that are on display awaiting overhauls.
We see 5820 arriving from the Picnic area with the loco's 2nd run of the day from Keighley.
Here we join Big Jim's train for a round.
Big Jim ran brilliantly all the way till we reach Oxenhope once again & we end this video.

After 4 weeks away from the Valley we return to find the S160 in its traditional Gray sitting along side the WD for our first time on damp sunday morning forcasted for showers.

Hello everyone, MT here with a short filmed trip aboard a steam service from Keighley railway station to Haworth on the Keighley Worth Valley Railway.
Tour De Yorkshire 2017 was happening over the weekend meaning bus services in Keighley would be cancelled because of closed roads for the cyclists to ride along. So I went to do an interesting backup plan and that was to go on a steam train service so that I arrived to see the cyclists ontime.
The locomotive hauling the Mk1 or Mk11 coaches was an War Department Austerity 2-8-0 numbered '90733', the soul survivor on its steam class. It was lucky to ride behind this locomotive being the only one left as much as Flying Scotsman is.

Scenes from the opening day of the three day KWVR Winter Gala with guest locomotive N2 1744, joining Standard Tank 80002, WD 90733, Ivatt 41241 and 1704 'Nunlow'. As I was only able to visit the railway for the one day the video can only give a brief taste of the event. The video was filmed around the Haworth and Oakworth areas. Thanks to all at the KWVR for all the time and effort put into organising the gala and especially for the pick-up freight.
