Lake District Walks: Evening Views over Elterwater
An evening walk from Elterwater to Dow Bank, a prominent summit on the ridge between Loughrigg and Silver Howe. Dow Bank should not be confused with Dow Crag, which is situated between Coniston and the Duddon Valley and is three times higher. Dow Bank is not well known. At 270 metres it is not high enough to be included in any of the mountain lists, such as Wainwrights, Birkets or Marilyns, so most fell walkers simply ignore it. But the short climb and walk to reach it provides a huge reward in terms of the views from the top, which include 5 bodies of water; Grasmere, Rydal Water, Windermere, Elterwater and Loughrigg Tarn, as well as many of the mountains and fells of the South Lakeland region.
