Living in the snow belt or not, it is great to get away after the Christmas and New Year holidays to just relax just like Hemingway use to so many years ago. Cancun and Cozumel are just to over booked, and congested to enjoy a peaceful get away, and Playa del Carmen is just another party town for college kids. If you want that Tom Hanks experience with better amenities, but no crowds then a Tulum Mexico resort is going to be your best option. Years ago this use to be a hangout for naked hippies, but now this resort town has matured, and is a very popular spot for the late thirties, and forty something crowd.
This is a very small community that hosts only about fifty-five Tulum beachfront houses, and cabanas, each one is only about thirteen to twenty feet away from the blue green tides of Tankah Bay. Overall, this is as close as you can come to being in a tropical paradise and not being stranded for four years on a island. People always go on vacation with big plans of deep-sea fishing, scuba diving, and training for a marathon, and other like activities. The biggest attraction away from the white beaches will be the Tulum ruins left by the Mayan culture several hundred years ago. Explorers from South America wiped them out long ago from bring new disease ashore from their mother country.
The Tulum Mayan ruins are only about a five to ten minute drive from the shores of Tankah, and make a for a peaceful tour of how these people lived over five hundred years ago. It was actually a shipping port, and trade hub for many commercial trade ships in its time. They left their city intact, and it is a wonderful experience to see how they lived, and worked so long ago. Back at Tulum, you will mainly be hypnotized by the beach, breeze, sun, and palm trees into a semi cationic state of relaxation.
Tulum cabanas are fairly priced, and come usually with air conditioning, and WiFi, but sipping a beer, or margarita and just staring at the perfect view that God created is going to be the highlight of every moment of your winter or summer vacation. These beachfront resorts are mainly run by expatriates that moved down there from the United States, and Germany back in the mid 1970s to early 1980s.
It is only a short one and one half hour drive from the Cancun International Airport, and you can ride a bus, take a taxi, or rent car to get over to the beaches of Tulum. Nevertheless, be warned, as this sleepy little resort is very addicting, and second mortgages have been taken out so people can go several times a year.

Driving to Chichen Itza and a Huge Cenote to Ourselves! - MEXICO PART 2
PART 3: Isla Mujeres and Sea Turtles
Part Two of our Vlog!
Hey Again????
Proof of our survival driving 7 hours (roundtrip) through the back roads of Yucatan province riddled with “topes,” and another 4 km through a forest to reach a grand cenote. Real proud of Danny driving it all the way – thank you! PLEASE NOTE: We do NOT recommend renting and driving in Mexico, unless you are experienced! (and overly confident...like us...)
Luckily our visit at Chichen Itza was not crowded at all, we got great footage and pictures. We were also so lucky to have a large and refreshing Cenote all to ourselves!
