This may sound strange but not a single photo in this video is from San Carlos de Bariloche itself, but from day trips made out of the city. San Carlos de Bariloche is usually called Bariloche and lies in the Argentinean Lake District close to the Chilean border. There are a few popular tourist hubs in Patagonia where its really easy to arrange tours, day tours or longer ones, in order to take in landscapes, flora and fauna or adventure sports, such as white water rafting, kayaking, horse riding, hiking, mountaineering etc. Bariloche is probably the best and biggest of them all and is also a prime ski resort in the winter.

White water rafting on the Manso River is of course included in this video, and we did end up crossing the border to Chile for a short while and having a photo of the border sign coming back to Argentina. Rafting was one of first things I included in my 7 weeks in Latin America travel project, and it turned out to be the best single day during he entire trip! Patagonia is such a beautiful location. No matter where you go, you'll find beautiful landscapes and plenty of options for an active holiday.

Patagonian ski resort rises out of volcanic ashes
(26 Sep 2012) The Argentine Patagonian ski region of Bariloche is rising out of the ashes of a 2011 season destroyed by the awakening of the nearby Puyehue volcano.
One year on, following a massive clean up operation, the slopes of one of the southern hemisphere's top winter sports destinations are back on the radar.
Often described as the Andean winter wonderland, the Argentine Patagonian city of San Carlos de Bariloche is a magnet for skiers and snowboarders from all over the world.
Just one year ago the eruption of the nearby Puyehue volcano and months of ash ensuing havoc brought the region's tourism industry to its knees.
Boasting stunning views across the Patagonian lake district, the soaring peaks of Cerro Catedral's ski resort were left almost empty.
The high season months of June and July of 2011 saw visitor numbers at the resort fall off the graph.
Just 12 months on and the resort is now closing on a 2012 season in ascendancy. All benchmarks show a return to fortunes with monthly averages hitting highs just under 28-thousand visitors.
Mariano Agriello a long time ski instructor on the popular pistes says the clean up efforts of the local community have relegated last year's disaster to nothing but a bad memory.
It doesn't even need to be mentioned the past, last year with the ash, there is nothing left. The companies have busied themselves with preparing the slopes, with having the mountain ready and today here we still are in the month of September following a marvellous season we have excellent conditions to continue enjoying the snow, the mountain sports and the adventure sports.
On June 4, 2011 the Puyehue volcano erupted, spewing ash soaring 5 miles (8 kilometres) into the sky.
Strong winds carried much of the debris from the Chilean volcano into neighbouring Argentina grounding flights throughout the region.
Bariloche's residents whose livelihoods resolve around the tourism industry had no idea of when the volcano would stop its activity.
For nine months, the area lay under a coat of ash. $20 (m) million US dollars in cancelled hotel reservations and other lost revenues such as lift passes, skiing classes and equipment rental brought the region to a standstill.
A massive clean up operation involving 2 and half thousand local volunteers was put in place throughout the region.
Followed by large investment in a promotional tourism campaign now the slopes of one of the southern hemispheres top ski destinations are back on the radar.
Fabian Szewczuk, Secretary of Tourism for the province said the events had a rejuvenating effect on the tourism sector.
The volcano resulted in that all of the community got together, all of the major actors and participants involved in the tourist activity. Just like that following on from the volcano new chambers were formed, like the chamber of chocolate makers, they got together to work even closer the various associations, the Argentine chamber of tourism. And all with the same objective; to recuperate the city and return it to its position in the eyes of the international tourism market.
Officially founded in 1902, Bariloche really began to attract visitors after the southern branch of the Roca train line arrived in 1934.
Almost 80 years on and tourism has become the region's number one money-maker.
Winter sports are the key industry and with the exception of 2011 over 700-thousand visitors have flocked to its lakeside slopes annually since the turn of the century.
Sideline charms such as its title as Argentina's chocolate capital help add the extra temptation for the domestic market.
Brazilian Tourist, Ricardo Sonne says for him it's a combination of the environment and good exchange rate that's brought him back to Bariloche for the last five years.

Caminata al Glaciar Castaño Overa - Active Patagonia 2017
Bariloche.
