Join me for this exciting video detailing the 53rd Paris Air Show of 2019 from Paris-Le Bourget Airport! The Paris Air Show is quite simply the largest air show event in the world and has been held every other odd year since 1949. It attracts all of the major aircraft makers and representatives of the world’s major military forces. This year’s event occurred between 17th and 23rd June 2019.
Enjoy a stunning collection of footage with me of a diverse range of aircraft taking off and landing at the airshow including the Airbus A350-1000, the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, the Airbus A330-900, the Profit Hunter Embraer E195-E2 and Embraer Preator 600 and the Beriev BE-200. I am also proud to share with you footage of a number of exciting military helicopters and aeroplanes including the Turkish Aerospace T129 Atak, the Embraer KC-390 and even a Pakistani fighter jet!
After this montage, I take a specific and detailed look at eight particular aeroplanes which were present at the Paris Air Show 2019:
1. The ATR72-600 aeroplane of the US airline Silver Airways (although it is not silver, but rather painted in a bright pink livery!) This plane is the world’s best selling turboprop aeroplane and I take great pleasure in exploring its insides with its great storage space and comfortable, 18 inch wide seats. Compared with competitors like Bombardier, ATR’s turboprop plane has the widest cabin space and also uses 40% less fuel than a comparable plane running on a jet engine. High wings ensure great “native in-flight entertainment” or as you probably know it better, passenger views!
I also take the opportunity to make use of a simulator which demonstrates the astounding utility and function of the ATR ClearVision ETS system. This system compliments the real vision of the pilot with added synthetic information in real time so that the pilot can clearly see the surrounding terrain or runway when landing, even when there’s low cloud or fog!
2. The Air Tahiti Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. I am interested to learn that this aeroplane has the largest passenger window of any commercial aircraft and the windows let you see outside, even when it’s dark! Air Tahiti celebrate local art and I am treated to a viewing of the painting “Tahitian Women on the beach” by famed French painter Paul Gauguin, painted in 1891.
I also meet with Boeing’s chief Boeing 787 test pilot and see the cockpit of the plane and its advanced LCD information screens and head up display.
3. The Air Asia Airbus A330-NEO. I see the fully flat, black and red seats of premium economy and the “hot seats” of economy class with extra leg room. I also see the crew rest area and the extensive rear galley for food preparation.
4. The Airbus A321-NEO of the French airline La Compagnie. This plane is single aisle and all 76 seats on board are business class. It is used for trans-Atlantic flights between New York and Paris.
5. The Airbus Vahana – A very high-tech plane which is the flying of the future! It is capable of vertical take off and landing and is 100% electric. It is a “personal air vehicle” for one, which is envisioned to be used by everyday commuters instead of cars or trains. Did I mention that it flies itself? Very cool!
6. The Mitsubishi SpaceJet M100.
7. The Airbus A350-1000 of Qatar Airways. Qatar Airways have recently introduced the “Qsuite” on these aeroplanes. Exclusive to business class, these pods allow a group of four people to interact in comfort, whether that be a two adult and two children family or four businessmen discussing their latest venture. I see the beautiful economy class of this aeroplane and the advanced cockpit – it’s no wonder Qatar Airways were crowned Skytrax airline of the year 2019!
8. The Dassault Falcon 6X – A corporate, long range private jet with an eye-watering price tag of $47 million US dollars. For this, you get stone and marble floors and the largest cross section in a business private jet ever – 104 inches wide and 6ft 6 in tall. A lounge and comfortable dining area await, with the lounge containing long seats which can join together to make a bed.
I had such a great time at the Paris Air Show and the weather was great too! Let me know what your favourite aeroplane was down in the comments and, as always, thanks for watching!

GOOD MORNING AMERICA'S HOMEPAGE:
Golden Age Pioneers: Jean Batten - Garbo of the Skies
Jean Batten, (1909 -- 1982), was a New Zealand aviatrix whose daring and adventurous flights made her a global heroine and broke barriers of time, distance and gender. Jean competed in a male bastion of dashing bravery and proved to the world that a woman could equal and even exceed their exploits.
Jean's love of flying was matched by her desire to prove herself equal to any man. These driving forces combined to create 'the Garbo of the skies', a glamorous daring adventurer who courted world wide attention to further her ambitions and then shunned it in later life.
We love the fact that Jean was able to literally rise above the confines and expectations of her time, both as a woman and a pilot. She dreamed of doing something that had never been done before; a solo flight from England to Australia in under 20 days. She persevered, keeping her dream in focus, and eventually did fly to Australia, breaking the record by five days. For good measure she established another record by becoming the first woman to make the return flight as well. She then went on to even bigger dreams.
Jean astonished the world with her daring feats, flying solo to make to the first flight across the southern oceans from West Africa to Brazil. She was also the first person to fly across the Tasman. On some of these flights she encountered storms which meant she did not know if she was off course or not for much of her flight. She had to trust to her instruments and keep flying. Approaching New Zealand she was convinced she was off course until she saw Mt Taranaki appear ahead of her. Similarly, on her flight to Brazil it was only when she was able to see activity in the shipping lanes that she realized she was still on course.
At the height of her fame people wondered, 'what will she do next?' In this way the dreamer of big dreams expanded the lives of those around her too, encouraging them to think bigger, to dream a little and to consider the 'impossible'.
Like all our heroes, Jean Batten was not deterred by setback or failure. It was her 1934 solo flight from England to Australia which first focused the world's attention on this young New Zealander. It took 14 days 22 hours; five days faster than the previous record held by English aviatrix Amy Johnson. It was also Batten's third attempt; her earlier attempts were thwarted by engine failure and, believe it or not, running out of fuel.
Ian Mackersey, Batten's biographer said of her that she had 'an almost messianic faith in herself, and an unshakeable conviction that she had a significant role to play in putting New Zealand womankind on the map'. With this sense of mission we can understand why she succeeded.
In 1936 she made another flight between New Zealand and England; she now held the world record for fastest solo flight in both directions. In 1938 she became the first woman to receive the medal of the Federation Aeronautique Internationale, aviation's highest honour. She realized that she had achieved her ambitions and decided to end her long distance flying career. After assisting the British war effort with lecture tours, Batten retired from public life and lived in Jamaica and then Spain where she died in 1982.

The Superhuman World of Wim Hof: The Iceman
Wim Hof first caught the attention of scientists when he proved he was able to use meditation to stay submerged in ice for 1 hour and 53 minutes without his core body temperature changing. Since then, he’s climbed Mount Everest in his shorts, resisted altitude sickness, completed a marathon in the Namib Desert with no water and proven under a laboratory setting that he’s able to influence his autonomic nervous system and immune system at will.
Almost everything Wim has done was previously thought to be impossible - but he’s not a freak of nature.
To demonstrate that any human can learn his methods, Wim offered to teach Matt Shea and Daisy-May Hudson to climb a freezing cold mountain in their shorts without getting cold. But when Matt and Daisy signed up for the training, they had no idea that the so-called Iceman was planning to lead them on a psychedelic journey across Europe that circled the chasm between science, spirituality and mystery.

US First Lady Laura Bush arrived in Egypt on Monday as part of her five-day visit to the Middle East.
Her first engagement was a meeting with Suzanne Mubarak, wife of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.
Bush's trip to the Middle East was intended partly to help defuse anti-US sentiment in the region.
However, she faced protests on Sunday during her visits to the Dome of the Rock and the Western Wall in Jerusalem.

Ken Burns & Henry Louis Gates, Jr. in conversation with Michel Martin
Documentarian Ken Burns and scholar Henry Louis Gates, Jr., join together to discuss the prevailing political fault line in the US: race. In this illuminating and cogent exchange, they examine why race is critical to their understanding of America and their work—and how, as a nation, we deal with race today. Their discussion is complemented with clips from Jackie Robinson, Burns' forthcoming epic about the impact and legacy of the first black baseball player to play in the major leagues, and Black America Since MLK: And Still I Rise, Gates' chronicle of the civil rights movement culminating in the election of Obama. (Both films are scheduled to premiere on PBS in 2016.)
Both figures have explored how race is part of the American fabric in their work. Burns’ landmark Emmy Award-winning television series The Civil War and Gates’ unprecedented four-part series African American Lives explore not just the role African-Americans have played throughout our history, but also how race, conceptions of race, and ideas about freedom and independence influence our politics and policies. They trace the historical significance of race from abolitionism to civil rights to the war on poverty—and consider what it means to have an African-American president.
