One fruit that retains its natural flavor. I headed to the farm where I raised the fruit. In Hawaiian, Ono means delicious. If you have confidence in how much you taste, did you name the farm delicious? These fruits go to supermarkets, fruit shops, chefs in hotels and restaurants. People in Maui are lucky. You can eat your fruit. I started to look around the farm, handing in a bit of a cowardice. Soon after, Abu became sincere. The fruit I saw for the first time was full of farms. It 's ripe. Is this really true? This should be like this. Grandfather demonstrating eating first. I also ate it as it was, The snow is bigger. A lot of weight. Sugar water is more than this. Sugar is the perfect name for Apple. This is the first fruit I have ever seen. What fruit? It 's a baby fruit, it' s a flower. In about three months, the baby fruit grows to this extent. After a month or so, this changes. I can eat the fruit from this fruit. Right now? Yes. My grandfather, who just started cutting the other fruit with a knife. This fruit, which looks like garlic, was called cacao. The outer white part is the fruit. I make chocolates with seeds. First, after fermenting the fruit for 5 days, take out the seed and let it dry. Once the seeds are dried out, they are baked and very fine. I mix it with sugar to make chocolate. I've eaten a lot of chocolate, but it's the first time I have cocoa. I greedy and picked up two. Suck it. Chew it? Do not chew it. Suck it. Sweet and sour. It was a refreshing taste that would not be believed to be the raw material of chocolate. I have that kind of taste. I really like it. I can eat ten of them at a time. Everyone in Hawaii really appreciates living here. We are really lucky people. Working with God and being happy That 's what we do. God always helps us and nurture these beautiful fruits. Everything from flowers to cacao fruit is possible only with God's help. The nature of Hawaii seemed to be a gift God gave to humans.

Seized Lands the Village of Leialii
Seized Lands the Village of Lei'alii.
Aloha kakou,
Kuleana Ku'ikahi LLC, an organization made up of surviving native Hawaiian Tenants to Hawaii's Kuleana Lands warmly invites the community and other surviving native Hawaiian Tenants to join us in a Town Hall to discuss planned development of approximately 2,900 new homes on so-called Ceded Lands at the Village of Lei'alii, located in the Waihikuli/Kahoma areas of Lahaina.
These lands to be developed are part of the 1.8 million Acre ceded lands Inventory of the infamous and so-called Treaty of Annexation (1898) of the Hawaiian Islands (of which 210,000 Acres had been set aside by the Hawaiian Homes Act of 1920 for native Hawaiians having 50% or more blood quantum of ethnic Hawaiian) under section 5(f) of the Hawaii statehood admissions act of 1959.
In short, these lands were set aside in 1898 and mandated by this so-called Treaty of Annexation for the benefit native Hawaiians in education and other public purposes (e.g. health, Housing, etc.). And, as most of us have come to discover these lands have benefitted the selected few on Hawaiian Homelands and still very few native Hawaiians with less than 50% Hawaiian blood.
This planned development at Leialii is yet another 'business as usual' attempt to sell/develop our lands. The states own mandate Act 176 (2009) prohibits any sale of so-called ceded lands without Legislative approval. Despite this law and any written approval from the Hawaii State Legislature these lands have been authorized to be sold arrangements such as Cultural Impact Surveys are being now being conducted in my opinion, prematurely.
For over 20 years, Uncle Moon Keahi (ua hala) fought tooth and nail with OHA that these lands belong to the people. From 100% to 1% Hawaiian blood, he knew these lands were for all of us.
Please plan and make arrangements to attend this important meeting. The more of us to rise and speak up, the better our chances are that we can ensure this CONTRACT (section 5(f) of the Hawaii statehood admissions act of 1959) is honored so you, your children, and your children's children benefit.
And please, share this with as many people as possible.

Alii Chang - Farmer and Visionary - Maui Hawaii
In loving memory of Alii Chang, Farmer & Visionary.
February 19, 1942 -- April 13, 2011
My passion has always been in the earth, says Alii Chang, who planted a lavender farm in upcountry Maui and made it into a work of art.
Local Maui farmer and visionary, Alii Arlington Chang, known best for his successful Alii Kula Lavender farm on the slopes of Haleakala, passed peacefully in his sleep April 13, 2011.
Alii's vision for the lavender farm was to create a venue for Sustainable Aloha. This included educational stewardship projects with the community. In honor of that respect and vision, the Ali'i Chang Foundation has been established to provide scholarships pursuing skills training in agriculture and for agricultural education in our local schools. Scholarship recipients should embody the very qualities Ali'i possessed including a strong work ethic, as well as innate and natural skills in growing plants, flowers, trees and food crops.
Applicants should also have an eye for design, a commitment to aloha, hospitality and aloha āina or love for the land. More information will be provided as the foundation is developed.

scenes from Maui Wine, Ulupalakua (Kula), Maui, Hawaii
These are some views of the Maui Wine store and grounds in Ulupalakua, Maui, Hawaii. This winery is located on the Kula Hy. (No. 37) and is about 25 miles and 45 minutes away from Kahului. We didn't find a whole lot to do here but they do have some interesting trees on the grounds as pictured in this video. Only liked one of their wines and understandably because this is Maui, everything there was very expensive by mainland standards. It is a very nice drive to get here though.
Places to see in ( Maui - USA ) Kula
Places to see in ( Maui - USA ) Kula
Kula is a district of Maui, Hawaii, that stretches across the up-country, the western-facing slopes of Haleakalā, from Makawao to Ulupalakua. Most of the residential areas lie between about 500 to 1,100 m in elevation. The district has traditionally been where full-time residents prefer to live, as distinct from the generally hotter and busier, more tourism-oriented towns near sea level, such as Kihei and Lahaina. The population of the census-designated place (CDP) at the 2010 Census was 6,452.
The word Kula means open meadows in the Hawaiian language. On Maui Kula is one of the island's 12 foundation districts of ancient Hawaii called moku. Generally, Kula is a zone of arid earth with open country slopes between the inhabited and productive shoreline areas and the densely forested zone higher on the mountain.
The Kula district is the island's largest, extending from dry coastal areas to the wetter high pasture lands of three major ranches (Haleakala, Erewhon, and Ulupalakua) that cap the region about halfway up the slopes of Haleakala. It laterally extends from Keokea to near Makawao where the rainforest of East Maui once began.
In leeward areas, away from the prevailing moist tradewinds—called the rain shadow of Haleakala—the lower portion of Maui consists of a broad, arid expanse where little cultivation of the earth is possible. This zone consists of dry, desert-like open range just inland from the sea in artificially irrigated Kihei, and is covered with kiawe trees to an elevation of about 1,000 feet on the volcano's slopes.
Between this zone and the upper reaches of the hillsides, especially up steep Waipoli and Poli Poli Roads, broad, are open areas for vegetable and fruit crops. The moderate climate often yields as many as three or four harvests per year. When the territorial legislature first set up the political design in 1906, they decreed only two levels of government: state and county. Consequently, Hawaii's towns do not have specific boundaries or city limits. There are also no official district boundaries for Maui County elections.
The twisty Haleakala Highway, from its junction with Kula Highway in Pukalani, loosely defines the northern edge of Upper Kula. The upper road (Kekaulike Avenue), also known as State Highway 377, leads up through usually green pastures, silver eucalyptus tree groves (and Blue Jacaranda trees in late spring), contrasting to the sugarcane below. Where the road beyond Kula Lodge makes an abrupt upward tack to Haleakala National Park, the area known as Upper Kula surrounds Kekaulike Avenue. In less than five miles it descends the slope to rejoin the Kula Highway near Rice Park and heads south to Keokea.
Lower Kula lies between about 1,200 and 2,800 feet of elevation along the western flank of Haleakalā, the dormant volcano that dominates the island's landscape and is the foundation of Kula’s backdrop. Communities along the old Lower Kula Road with names like Pulehu, Waiakoa, Omaopio and Keokea each have unique history of ethnic settlement. In the late 19th century, Portuguese and Chinese immigrants, who fulfilled labor contracts with the sugarcane plantations, moved to this area. Later, Japanese farmers moved into the area for its fertile earth.

An Upcountry Maui Farm Welcomes Drought
The sun pounds down on our state, prolonging the drought, and crippling our agriculture. But dry conditions mean good news for a farm in upcountry Maui.
Ali'i Chang and Lani Medina Weigert ride around their three and a half acre farm. Chang's been a farmer for more than 40 years.
I was growing plants in the rainforest all my life, and when I bought this in 1990, I really didn't know what grows in this kind of drought area, said the 65-year-old Native Hawaiian farmer.
He eventually chose lavender, a plant native to the Mediterranean, Africa, and India. It made its way to upcountry Maui, thriving in warm, dry conditions while needing little water.
Beyond that, lavender doesn't require irrigation or pesticides. In this climate, it may very well be the perfect herb.
