EP 6 Allendale to Bardon Mill - The Grand Tour of Northumberland
4th November 2018
Join us on our walk of historic Northumberland as we continue our hike. Packed full of history and beautiful scenery. UK hiking at its best in England's least populated county.
Please SUBSCRIBE so you don't miss any future sections.
Section 6: Allendale to Bardon Mill
We start our hike at the beginning of the Isaac Tea Trail in Allendale before visiting the church dedicated to St Cuthbert in order to see the end of the trail at Isaac's memorial and discuss the traitorous vicar of Allendale. Before leaving Allendale we stumble upon the Science Fiction Museum, a collection of original props from a number of films and TV shows, including Dr Who.
We then follow the Tea Trail to the Blackett Level (which once connected to Holmslinn Mine seen in the previous section) and Allen Smelt works (now equally famous as the home of Allendale brewery). Eventually we say goodbye to the Tea Trail and pick up the Reivers' Way to Gingle Pot, Staward Pele Tower, and Staward Gorge.
We follow the gorge to Planky Mill and continue through Allen Banks before leaving the river Allen and cutting across to Beltingham where we visit another church dedicated to St Cuthbert in order to see the ancient Yew trees, one of which is said to be over 2,000 years old. Finally we cross over the River South Tyne into Bardon Mill.
Please subscribe so that you don't miss any of the next 46+ walks.
