Arts Tasmania Wilderness Residencies
Arts Tasmania run a wilderness residency program in partnership with the Tasmania Parks & Wildlife Service since. The program, now titled the Dombrovskis Parks and Wildlife residency program is offered through Arts Tasmania’s grants and loans program supporting individual artists, partnerships and collaborations working in any artform to undertake residencies within unique wilderness locations around the state. The residencies range in length between 4-8 weeks with the artists having access to basic Parks staff accommodation, generally between April and September.
The Dombrovskis Parks and Wildlife residencies category is named in honour of renowned wilderness photographer Peter Dombrovskis (2 March 1945 - 28 March 1996). Mr Dombrovskis made an outstanding contribution to photography in Australia and brought visions of the unique Tasmanian wilderness to the world. Arts Tasmania and the Parks and Wildlife Service Tasmania have made these unique and sometimes remote residency locations available to Tasmanian artists so that a new generation of artists can access and explore the landscape that so inspired Mr Dombrovskis.
