Hawai'i Aloha | Song Across Hawai'i | Playing For Change Collaboration
Hawai’i Aloha features dozens of Hawai‘i’s top artists across many genres, and over 1,000 youth from 10 Hawaiian charter schools in one epic song. Recorded live across 27 locations, this is Hawaiiʻs most widely known song, used to close important gatherings of all sizes. It is a song of unity and Aloha ‘Aina (Aloha for one’s birthplace, land and home).
About this collaboration: Mana Maoli, a Hawaiian nonprofit, teamed up with Playing For Change and 4 Miles as part of their Mana Mele Project, which features a solar mobile studio and a Music & Multimedia Academy. Alongside the youth - on campus, in real-world settings, and in this video, is the Mana Mele Collective - over 200 artists, engineers, and filmmakers who donate their time and talents to mentorships, recordings, and concerts in support of these schools. We hope you enjoy watching this collaborative effort as much as we enjoyed creating it!

King Kamehameha I Lei Draping Ceremony (Washington D.C., June 11, 2017)
Hundreds gathered at the U.S. Capitol in D.C. to celebrate Hawaii’s monarch, King Kamehameha on Sunday, June 11, 2017 at the U.S. Capitol Building Visitors Center Emancipation Hall. The 48th annual event was celebrated to coincide with King Kamehameha Day celebrations in Hawaii. It is meant to honor the King’s legacy of uniting the islands, establishing the Kingdom of Hawaii in 1810. This year’s theme was “I Mua! E Na Poki`i, a inu i ka wai ‘awa‘awa,” which means, “Forward my young brothers and sisters, and drink of the bitter waters of battle, there is no turning back until victory is secured.”
Participating in the event were members of the Hawaiian congressional delegation including Senator Mazie Hirono (D) and Congresswomen Colleen Hanabusa (D) & Tulsi Gabbard (D).
The event also included hula performed by halau from Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. (Halau Nohona Hawaiʻi)
The event was sponsored by the Hawai'i State Society of Washington D.C. (est. 1950.) The founding members were business and professional people from Hawaiʻi who had relocated to the Washington, D.C., area. They hoped to keep alive in their new home the Aloha spirit which was so much a part of their lives in Hawaiʻi.
Hawaiian Islands Vacation Travel Video Guide
Honolulu, the capital of the Hawaiian Islands has developed into a lively city. In the heart of the city there’s a statue in honour of King Kamehama The Third who in 1840 moved his government residence from the island of Maui to Honolulu on Oahu, thus unifying the island kingdom. In later years the Victorian Iolani Palace became the new residence of those who ruled Hawaii. Hawaii wouldn’t be Hawaii if it were not for its world famous surfers when during the winter season the northern part of Oahu with its Waimea Bay, Banzai Pipeline and Sunset Beach is extremely popular with surfers. A total of a hundred and thirty two islands, atolls and reefs make up the island group of Hawaii. Only a twenty-minute flight from Oahu and Honolulu is the fourth largest island, ‘Garden Island’ or, Kauai. Like no other island in the archipelago, Kauai is full of contrast: while temperatures on the palm beaches are mostly summer-like, dry and warm, the interior of the island is one of the moistest regions in the world. Apart from pleasure boats it’s mainly canoes and kayaks that travel on the waters of the southern and northern sections of the Wailua River, an adventurous and also very popular way of exploring the interior of Kauai. Picturesque insights into the Hawaii of bygone times are provided in the small village of Kamokila, an original Hawaiian village that has been reconstructed in every detail. The Haleakala National Park contains the world’s greatest dormant volcano and the clear night skies of this unique region have made it ideal for the observation of stars and satellites. What could be better than to observe the colourful transformation of the landscape while lying on a beach surrounded by palm trees and falling under the spell of this enchanting island paradise? Aloha Hawaii!

Playing For Change is a movement created to inspire and connect the world through music, born from the shared belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people. Our primary focus is to record and film musicians performing in their natural environments and combine their talents and cultural power in innovative videos we call Songs Around The World. Creating these videos motivated us to form the Playing For Change Band—a tangible, traveling representation of our mission, featuring musicians met along our journey, and establish the Playing For Change Foundation—a separate 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to building music and art schools for children around the world. Through these efforts, we aim to create hope and inspiration for the future of our planet.

1960s KODAK CO. HAWAIIAN MOVIE TRAILS FILM & MOVIE CAMERA PROMOTIONAL FILM PART 2 93854
Produced and hosted by Charles Kinsley and Jack Streb for Kodak, Hawaiian Movie Trails is a short film from the 1960s that gives viewers a tour of the Hawaiian Islands while providing tips on how to better photograph and film a visit to the Pacific island chain. Charles and Jack arrive at the Coco Palms Hotel on the island of Kauai. The hotel grounds feature lagoons with water lilies. Children fish the lagoon. Two people take an outrigger ride on one of the lagoons. Next, the two men go to Waimea Canyon State Park (01:23) with its spectacular views. At the Hanalei Plantation Hotel (02:16), guests golf, dine in a luxurious restaurant, and enjoy the views overlooking the bay. Charles and Jack take a guided boat tour on Kauai’s Wailua River (03:05). They visit the fern grotto (04:28) as part of the trip. On the ride back, the boat’s guide teaches songs to the visitors, and two little girls dance hula. Back at the Coco Palms, guests enjoy the ceremonial lighting of the torches at night (05:50). The two men arrive at the airport in Maui (06:30). Shots show Maui’s landscape, golf courses, hotels and swimming pools, and sugar cane fields. At the coastal town of Lahaina (07:48), they visit the village’s hotel, jail, and a park with canons recovered from the wreckage of an old Russian ship. Viewers also see Maui’s beaches, including Fleming Beach (09:20), Haleakala National Park (10:00) with its stunning views of volcanoes and the unique Haleakala silversword plants. The next stop is the big island of Hawaii. They visit the Kona Inn (13:55), then they go photograph recently caught blue marlins that are measured and weighed at the docks. Charles and Jack go out on a charter boat to fish for marlin. The captain baits the line with artificial squid, and a marlin hits the line (15:28) but quickly gets away. This is followed by footage of active volcanoes spewing magma (16:36). The men walk along Devastation Trail (17:03) with its barren landscape. They next travel to Hilo (18:31) and a visit a Japanese garden. Close-up shots show the beauty of the various orchids (20:30). Women make floral leis (21:05). Back at Oahu, the men go to the International Market Place at Waikiki (21:37) to buy souvenirs. The film shows wood carvings and how the carvings are made (22:54). Logs run through a band saw, then sketches are drawn on the raw wood. A man grinds down the wood, creating the image (a dish in the shape of a fish). They go out on a boat to tour Pearl Harbor (25:15). They visit the shrine over the sunken Arizona. They then visit Punchbowl National Cemetery (28:08). The film concludes with footage of Hawaii’s flowers, scenic views, beaches and water sports, hula dances, and its people.

THE BLUE HAWAIIAN DIFFERENCE There's simply no argument: Blue Hawaiian is Hawaii's #1 helicopter tour company. Blue Hawaiian's aircraft maintenance technicians have received the FAA's coveted Certificate of Excellence, Diamond Award every year since 1998. Blue Hawaiian was honored by the FAA for its record 12th straight year in January, 2009, at a ceremony in Honolulu, and the FAA further honored Blue Hawaiian with the very first Certificate of Excellence, Platinum Award. And Blue Hawaiian is the only helicopter tour company in Hawaii certified by the Department of Defense.
Welcome to the Blue Skies of Hawaii. Blue is the only helicopter tour company serving all four major Hawaiian islands: Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island. That means wherever you go in the Islands of Aloha, you know exactly how to get the world's finest aerial tours: just remember the color of the sky.
We don't just operate the best equipment, we help develop it. From the ultra-quiet, spacious, and powerful 21st-century Eco-Star helicopter to the breakthrough Garmin G500H technology, which gives our pilots astonishing three-dimensional synthetic vision terrain awareness in less than optimal weather; from our pioneering of multi-camera in-flight video, to designing vastly improved cockpit air-conditioning—Blue Hawaiian is always at the forefront of leading-edge innovations for your safety, comfort, and enjoyment. Because when it comes to our guests, good enough is never enough.
The finest pilots in the sky. Blue Hawaiian prides itself on hand-picking only the finest and most experienced pilots—the absolute cream of the profession—and every one of them is a State of Hawaii Certified Tour Guide. Blue Hawaiian is also the only helicopter tour company in Hawaii with its own state-of-the-art Flight Simulator, and the only one that puts its pilots through annual factory and FAA recurrent training.

Aloha Pohakuloa Stop the Bombing
May 3, 2014 ALOHA ʻĀINA PŌHAKULOA
Pōhakuloa is a sacred ʻāina (land) and is situated within the Wao Akua (realm of the gods). Kanaka Maoli (Native Hawaiian) customary rights, access, traditional beliefs and practices are being desecrated by the continued bombing of this sacred ʻāina.
We, concerned Native Hawaiians and residents of Hawaiʻi Island, are alarmed by the ongoing and newly announced military build-up at the Pōhakuloa Training Area (PTA) as proposed by
Congresswoman, Colleen Hanabusa. Under the control of the U.S. Army and located on Hawaiʻi Trust Ceded Lands, PTA is the largest live-fire range and training complex (132,000 acres) in
Hawaiʻi or anywhere in the Pacific region.
What is presently happening at Pōhakuloa is what was happening on the Island of Kahoʻolawe when the U.S. Armed Forces and other countries used this sacred ʻāina for live-fire training and as a bombing target from 1941 to 1990.
PTA is five times the size of the Island of Kahoʻolawe with an artillery impact area of 51,000 acres that has been heavily bombarded for nearly 60 years that it is considered an extremely
hazardous zone because it contains a significant amount of unexploded ordinances. These lands will be rendered too dangerous for any future civilian use---as we have witnessed previously with both the Island of Kahoʻolawe and Mākua Valley on the Island of Oʻahu.
There are over 300 significant cultural sites including shrines and burials within the landscape of Pōhakuloa along with several endangered flora and fauna species. The United Nations Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, accepted by President Obama several years ago, acknowledges specific indigenous rights protecting cultural resources, sites and practices.
However, the current military activities at PTA are in violation of this United Nations Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Likewise, foreign countries participating in Rim Pacific
(RIMPAC) war-game maneuvers are also in violation and should not be causing further desecration to Pōhakuloa and other parts of our Hawaiian Islands.
To quote Representative Hanabusa, ...we hold our planet in trust for future generations. It is our deep and timeless responsibility and must be our highest priority. Our elected officials should be protecting Pōhakuloa from further destruction, desecration and they need to be held accountable.
Clarence Ku Ching and Maxine Kahaulelio represent all of us concerned in the lawsuit by Native Hawaiian Legal Corporation against the Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) and William Aila. The DLNR allows the U.S. military to desecrate our Native Trust Lands (Ceded Lands) at Pōhakuloa's historic and cultural sites. The DLNR and William Aila has a kuleana (responsibility) to monitor and protect these lands, but have instead permitted noncompliance by the U.S. military that has lease these lands from the 1960's to the present day for $1.00...period! The lawsuit states that the lease for Pōhakuloa should not be re-negotiated unless present terms of the contract are fulfilled; unexploded ordinances and depleted uranium (DU)
contamination are key concerns.
Through Kahoʻolawe, we experienced even larger lessons about how we have a kuleana to properly care for our precious Hawaiian Islands. Our kūpuna (elders) understood and honored this kuleana as Aloha ʻĀina, a loving care for the natural elements, resources and forces of life.
Accordingly, it is about living in harmony with our ʻāina, kai (ocean) and everything else we are connected to.

INSIGHTS ON PBS HAWAIʻI: The Haʻikū Stairs | Program
Whatʻs the next step for the Stairs? The future of The Haʻikū Stairs has been fiercely debated for years. Also known as the Thousand Steps or the Stairway to Heaven, the long, narrow step structures make for a stunningly beautiful hike, high up a Windward Oʻahu ridge, providing panoramic views often posted on social media. The hike is both popular and illegal. Residents in a nearby Kāneʻohe neighborhood have endured the trespassers and their noise for many years. The current owner of most of the land under the deteriorating stairs, the Honolulu Board of Water Supply, wants to free itself of the liability and tear down the stairs – or transfer responsibility.
INSIGHTS ON PBS HAWAIʻI: The Mayors | Program
You don’t often see these recognizable figures in the same place at the same time. And when you do, they’re generally attending a ceremonial event or a legislative hearing. This is different. The Mayors who serve different island communities will sit across the table from each other and discuss their island challenges on INSIGHTS ON PBS HAWAIʻI. And they’ll take questions from our moderator and viewers. You’ll hear from two mayoral veterans and two relative newbies: Honolulu’s Kirk Caldwell; Hawaiʻi Island’s Harry Kim; Mike Victorino of Maui County; and Kauaʻi County’s Mayor Derek Kawakami.
