My Journey - England, UK, Ep. 11 (Part 1) - Black Rocks
Black Rocks is one of the attractions in Derbyshire. The climb up onto the gritstone outcrop of Black Rocks is quite fun and once you get on top, the views of Cromford, Matlock Gorge and the Derwent Valley Mills was superb and rewarding! We went further to Alport Height for even more stunning views. Alport Height is a hill near Wirksworth in Derbyshire. It is the first hill over 1,000 ft (300 m) and is a popular picnic site with its extensive views to the South. It is possible to see Derby city centre from the summit.

muggington
view from near side of road between muggington and Cross o' th' Hands.
starts looking south at electricity board radio mast, panning round to brailsford direction then hulland ward and Ireton Wood & the mountain !. to the north it is possible to see bolehill village and radio mast beyond Wirksworth, Alport, and looking East view is across the Ecclesbourne Valley towards Windley.
View south is poor from this location, but the EMEB mast is positioned with clear views across most of Derby + beyond Belper etc.
Power Station is Ratcliffe on Soar.

Stanton Air Raid Shelter in Matlock, Derbyshire
The information plaque states:
The Tump (a mound) is made from spoil out of the excavations for the Derwent Valley Aqueduct.
This pipeline was installed across the fields to the west in the early 1900’s. It still carries water from the Derwent Dams (20 miles to the north) as far as Leicester (40 miles to the south). The landowner at the time was Ernest Bailey. So the site became ‘Bailey’s Tump’.
In the 1930’s Bailey’s Tump was fortified as an air defence site.
The circular enclosures are the remains of the ramparts which sheltered the equipment and protected the soldiers. The Tump was in use from 1939 to 1945 as part of the outer defences of Sheffield and its steel industry.
In Winter 1940 an attacking Dornier bomber was brought down. It crashed near Great Longstone (10 miles to the west).
In 1944 and 1945 the searchlight was pointed upwards to act as a navigation aid for allied bombers attacking Germany.
In 2005 Bailey’s Tump was restored by Matlock Civic Association and Matlock Town Council using a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
