EATING COLOMBIAN FOOD in Cartagena.
We spent the day eating Colombian food in Cartagena, Colombian and discovered some great food to try in Colombia. We started off the day trying juices made with fresh Colombian fruit. We also had an Arepa made with cheese and chicken and Patacones (fried plantains) with chorizo, cheese, and avocado. After that we tried some fresh bread called Pandebonos which is made with corn flour, eggs and cheese.
After that we found a fruit called granadilla from the fruit ladies, it’s slightly sweet and a bit sour but not so pretty! Lastly we had Colombian empanada with cheese.

Cartagena, Colombia is the sum of its incredible parts; its colonial, republican and modern architecture, the temptation of its vibrant nightlife, its cultural festivals, exuberant landscapes, magnificent beaches, outstanding gastronomic offerings and its important hotel and tourism infrastructure. It is a fantastic city that guards the secrets of its history in its walls and balconies, its buildings and its narrow, cobbled streets.Framed by its beautiful bay, Cartagena de Indias is one of the best preserved and most enchanting cities in the Americas.
Colombia has numerous things to captivate. On the one hand, an ample offer of traditional regional recipes; on the other, new trends that make the best of local products to turn Colombian flavors into innovative dishes.Colombian national cuisine is as diverse as its climate, landscapes, and cultural expressions. Aside from the fertility of a land that grows practically everything, there is the unlimited imagination of expert cooks who add to the sentiment they infuse into their preparations new ways of seasoning and creating recipes.
Granadilla: The Granadilla or Passiflora ligularis is a member of the plant species in the genus Passiflora. It is found throughout the Andes Mountains in the regions of Venezuela, Bolivia and Colombia. It is also found as far north as Central Mexico and as far south as Argentina. It is one of the many different fruits that are considered part of the Passion Fruit family and in fact it is called Passion Fruit in Africa and Australia. In Brazil it is known as the maracuja doce – or sweet passion fruit. This is a plant that likes to climb and looks stunning on a trellis. It has large green leaves and greenish white flowers. You can plant it on a deck, over a fence or against a sheltered wall but it will need a strong frame for support. The fruit is round and orange and seems also to have a hard, leathery cover. Inside the seeds are protected by a soft white padding. The seeds themselves are surrounded by a clear gelatinous liquid that is soft and sweet to eat.
Empanadas: Colombian Empanadas are a popular snack in Colombia and are served by most Colombian restaurants. Traditionally, these delicious fritters are made with shredded pork and beef, but you can also find a version with ground meat. Serve them with ají and lime wedges on the side.In Colombia, empanadas are also sold outside of the churches. They are usually small and just have potato filling, a great alternative for vegetarians and absolutely delicious.
Pandebono: Pandebono or pan de bono is a type of Colombian bread made of corn flour, cassava starch, cheese, eggs and in some regions of the country they put a guava jam known as bocadillo. Traditionally, it is consumed while still warm with hot chocolate a few minutes after baking. It is very popular in the Colombian department of Valle del Cauca. This bread can be made in both a round and a ring shape.
Arepa: The arepa is a Colombian kitchen stable. It’s what represents the country aside from coffee. There are different varieties of this corn cake from Bogota’s white, round, and flat to the Caribbean Coast’s thick fried stuffed with egg known as Arepa e’Huevo and the sweet yellow corn cake known as Arepa de Choclo. Today arepas are easily found in Colombian bakeries and Hispanic food markets in the frozen food section. The arepa can be grilled, baked, or even fried. Enjoy with a side of fresh white cheese, scrambled eggs for breakfast, hogao or guacamole as a snack, or with meat for dinner.

Cartagena, Colombia Day Trip to Playa Blanca: FitFort Action Cam Footage
I spent another day with Alex Rocha ( and he was our guide to Playa Blanca. I finally got the tan I've been waiting for! He also drove us through more Afro-Colombian neighborhoods that I would've never known existed.
Today I used my FitFort 4K Ultra HD Action Cam ($63):
I had a more stabilized monopod today but could still see the shakiness whenever I walked. It was a big difference from my first use (see below) but still not amazing. So I simply fixed the stabilization of the video using my video editing software. It's literally one button click. Voila!

3 DAYS TRIP TO CARTAGENA, COLOMBIA DAY 2 EPISODE 2
3 DAYS TRIP TO CARTAGENA, COLOMBIA DAY 2 EPISODE 2
Alternative Caribbean: Colombia’s Providencia Island
In awe, I’m walking—greeted intermittently by patriotic locals, who sit on door stoops, on motorbikes and in trees next to the sidewalk, welcoming me to Providencia Island, Colombia. After disembarking one of Silver Cloud’s Zodiacs in a modest yet beautiful port, I have an urgent need to explore all that is in front of me.
This is an island that has escaped the mainstream of Caribbean travel and lies frozen in an indeterminate period of time. My passion for discovery is instantly piqued, as I'm sure yours would be too.

COLOMBIAN ISLAND- ISLA DE PROVIDENCIA
Isla de Providencia is a small island located in the Caribbean midway between Costa Rica and Jamaica. The island is easily reached from Cartagena Colombia with daily flights to San Andres then either a rough ferry or small plane to Providencia. It has a more authentic and local feel compared to San Andres (which is still a beautiful island). We really loved this island, it’s so beautiful and untouched.

Visiting the land of Narcos! [Colombia Day 1]
We visited some of the actual locations that were important to the story of drug lord Pablo Escobar.
When Kren called me up and asked if I wanted to go visit his family in Colombia, my first inclination was to say no because I can't afford it. But after he explained how cheap it is to travel in Colombia, I couldn't pass up this opportunity, and I'm so glad I did. I spent almost no money the whole 11 days we were there!

— About Exploring Colombia —
Colombia, a country which many only know because of it’s violent past, has been on my list since I went to South America for my first long-term trip in 2012. 6 Years later and with 5 weeks to spend it was finally time to properly explore my country number 9 on the continent.
For the first part of the trip I’ll be traveling with my mate David to the historical city of Cartagena, some picturesque Carribean islands and to the city of Medellin where we get to learn about the violent past and the transformation of the country. After a few days in the capital Bogota I’ll be joined by my good friend Stefan to learn salsa and take on some outdoor adventures in Cali before heading up to Santa Marta where we checkout the most beautiful beaches, float down rivers and hike through the mountains.

A day in the life of The Columbian
This video takes you from start to finish in the making of a newspaper.
Sailing the San Blas islands from Panama to Cartagena, Columbia
With our Bus loaded on a shipping container in Colon, Panama we had until Monday to arrive in Cartagena, Columbia. We decided to sail rather than fly in order to reach our destination. On a shuttle from Panama City we met the other two couples who would be in the boat with us, we knew right away it was going to be a great trip.
We reached the boat and were thrust into Kuna territory. The Kuna are the indigenous people who inhabit these islands, and thankfully we had Nestor, a Kuna man, on board as a second hand. He showed us his family and around his island, it was quite interesting to see the drastic differences between some of the Yachts anchored nearby and these people living happily with little material goods. We dined on lobster and fish that the Kuna sold to our boat captain daily, delivered on small wooden canoes.
We were getting ready to set sail when we noticed a lot of smoke coming out of the cabin after the captain started the engine. We evacuated the cabin and found the starter caught on fire which then damaged other items. This boat wouldn't be able to sail us over to Cartagena.
We immediately thought there would be issues if we showed up days late to the port so we were fairly concerned we wouldn't find another ride. Luckily a new captain came along who had just fixed his boat. We jumped aboard the next day and continued to another island. The following day we were going to move again but minutes after we pulled anchor a familiar sight of smoke rose from the cabin. We killed the engine and had the dingy push the boat back into a safe anchorage. Luckily a nearby boat had spare parts and the captain was able to fix the boat the same day. That night, no one quite assured we were going to make it to Columbia, we left.
This was the first time any of us had sailed, and the first sail happened under the full moon once we hit truly open ocean. We were stoked to have a captain (Herman) who was willing to teach us as we went along. After hitting a few storms we hit such calm water we thought diesel may become an issue as we were solely relying on the engine. Then the engine died. It was a bit concerning considering we were a days sail from even being able to see land. Luckily it was only a fuel filter issue and we were on our way fairly quickly. Clyde was able to bring in a Durado (Mahi Mahi) by hand line off the back of the boat, no easy task! One more day of sailing and we began to see the sky scrapers of Cartagena in the distance. We had made it.

Are You a Cocaine Tourist? | Safe Travels | World Nomads Playlist
Cocaine is one of Colombia’s most notorious exports. For those that have had a taste of the drug back home, the low prices in Colombia, plus TV series like Narcos, have created attractive reasons for some to travel to the country. But it’s important to know what you’re really buying into. Join World Nomads’ Stephanie Hunt as she discovers the mass damage the drug has caused Colombian society. Locals have a poor view of travelers that visit Colombia to buy drugs, as buying cocaine fuels the violence and destruction it's known for, and makes you part of the problem.
