Thanks to Guilherme ( for taking us around Brazil. #Brazil #Amazon #AmazonFood
MANAUS, BRAZIL - During my food trip to Brazil there was no place I wanted to visit more than the Amazon Rainforest. We flew to Manaus (if you look at a map, Manaus is directly in the heart center of the Amazon). The jungle, the unique dishes and fruits, and the people made it incredible.
Exotic fruit tasting - One of the things that you have to do when you’re in Brazil, especially in the Amazon is sample all the unique and indigenous fruits of the region, some that are only available there. We started with mari-mari, an amazing long pod fruit and have inga (ice cream bean fruit) and biribá - wild sugar apple. All the fruit - 10 BRL ($2.55)
Manaus is a pretty big city, especially for being in the heart of the Amazon Rainforest. They have a big market, full of fruits, vegetables and fish. We headed straight for some tucumã, a type of palm tree fruit that’s essential in the local diet.
Jenipapo - Along the way we also tried some jenipapo, a pretty unique fruit.
Tucumã sandwiches - Sandwich shop owners better take note! Tucumã sandwiches are a true Amazonian food and they are delicious. Along with the palm fruit they were paired with cheese and fried sweet banana. It’s a perfect breakfast and way to start the day in the Amazon. Price - about 10 BRL ($2.55) per sandwich
Tambaqui fish - Tambaqui is a fish from the Amazon that’s known for having ribs - seriously almost like pork ribs. We decided to get a fish to bring to the village since we weren’t sure what they’d have al the village.
Amazon village - We didn’t really have a plan, we were just going to find a boat driver and ask him to take us to a village and see if anyone could cool. So we got a boat, and our boat driver asked if they were home and if we could invite ourselves in. We arrived completely unplanned and unannounced and it turned out to be an outstanding learning experience and fun time with an amazing family in the Amazon.
Along with the food we brought, the family mixed up about 4 different exotic drinks - some of them known in the Western world as ingredients in trendy energy drinks - but here in the Amazon of Brazil they are consumed regularly.
It was such an awesome Brazilian Amazonian food meal with the family followed by a time of drumming and dancing, football, and finally a swim in the river. It was an extraordinary day in the Amazon of Brazil.

Beirut, Lebanon is an amazing city. It’s a city that’s been through a lot, but the people hold it together. In this simple and fun travel guide to Beirut, we’ll eat some delicious food and visit some of the famous sights of Beirut. #Beirut #Lebanon
Kamel - Feryal Boutique:
Feryal - Mouneh Boutique ( - Kamel and his family source the best food products and ingredients from across Lebanon. I bought some sour young grape juice and pomegranate molasses to bring home to Thailand with me. Go say hi to Kamel when you’re in Beirut!
Basterma Mano ( - The highlight here is the soujouk on the shawarma, and it’s delicious. The basterma is good too, but the soujouk was the winner for me. Soujouk Sandwich - 5,000 LBP ($3.32)
Mossis Restaurant ( - Since we were in the area, Kamel knew another sandwich shop he’d been going to for years. We had roast beef, soujouk, and the kind owners gave us a plate of basterma on the side - delicious. Sandwich - 6,000 LBP ($3.98)
Al Falamanki Raouche - This is a cafe and restaurant serving all sorts of Lebanese food, and one of the highlights of coming here is to enjoy the amazing views of the iconic Raouche Rocks - Pigeons’ Rock. It’s not cheap, but a very nice place to hang out in Beirut.
Next on this tour of Beirut, we stopped at the beautiful Mohammad Al-Amin Mosque and Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in the heart of Beirut. And lastly, we walked along the gorgeous Corniche Beirut waterfront.
Hotel Albergo ( - We were invited for a rooftop sunset drink at the top of Hotel Albergo, a beautiful historical hotel in Beirut. The view was outstanding, and a perfect was to finish a day in Beirut.
Hope you enjoyed this simple Beirut travel guide!

Amazon River Adventure 2013
This video describes a one week Amazon River cruise, beginning and ending in Iquitos, Peru. We had the opportunity to explore the landlocked city of Iquitos, visit the floating city of Belin, observe the operation of a sugar cane liquor distillery in Porvenir, visit a Shamana in San Regis, go for jungle walks and observe wildlife and scenery.
The trip was organized by Overseas Adventure Travel, our fourth with this agency. We applaud them for their choice of trip leader, Johnny Balerazo, naturalist, Jesús Mesia and for a great river boat, the Queen Violeta

ounce of sacrifice displayed in torch relay in Manaus endangered species of drama The death of Juma, the jaguar who attended a ceremony with the Olympic torch in Manaus on Monday, reveals the drama of an endangered species and raises questions about the keeping of wild animals in centers of the Army in the Amazon.
The Juma jaguar was shot down with a pistol shot in the War Training Center in Selva (Cigs) shortly after being displayed in the Olympic event. As another jaguar, nicknamed Simba, she had been chained and presented to the public during the ceremony.
The Army maintains several ounces in captivity in the Amazon. Felines ─ and animals of other species ─ usually adopted by the body to be found in captivity or in the hands of hunters.
Many ounces as Juma, become mascots of battalions and undergo training sessions. In Manaus, the cats are frequent presence in military parades, a practice condemned by biologists and veterinarians.
In 2014, while recording a documentary in Manaus, Cigs military showed Juma, the mascot of the center, the BBC Brazil. At the time, they explained that the jaguar had been rescued with injuries after her mother was killed. It was taken to the center and there grew up under the care keepers.
The tragic fate of Juma draws attention to the situation becoming more precarious of the species listed as endangered in Brazil by Ibama in 2003.
It is an animal that requires extensive preserved areas to survive, hunting species such as capybaras and even alligators. She has been threatened by deforestation, not only in the Amazon as well as the Pantanal and the Cerrado, to make room for the expansion of farming.
pistol shot
In a note sent to the site of the local branch of Amazon Real news, the Amazon Military Command (CMA) says that after the Olympic ceremony on Monday, Juma escaped into the army center of the zoo. The agency says that a group of vets and military tried to recapture it with tranquilizers, but that even hit the animal advanced on a soldier.
As a safety procedure, aiming to protect the physical integrity of the military and grooms team, was held a pistol shot the animal, who died, says the agency. The death of Juma, the jaguar who attended a ceremony with the Olympic torch in Manaus on Monday, reveals the drama of an endangered species and raises questions about the keeping of wild animals in centers of the Army in the Amazon.

Jungle of the Amazon
5 days tour in the jungle and the pampas. Rurrenabaque, Bolivia
Amazon River (Peru)
A place that more or less always seems so remote and hard to get to is really with in range of us all now. But don't be fooled, outfits like the Maniti Tours will only take you in so far and the experience will be less than authentic. Don't get me wrong, the locals, especially in the video here are all incredible nice people and the lifestyle they live is amazing to see. But as a photographer with special access to these places and the people through friends of the agency who know them well is why I regard the place in such a wonderful light.. They really are special people.. The tour will swiftly bring you by in a time restrained and choreographed manner (which may be just fine for some people) . Sitting down, chatting with them , photographing, joking, having a few cold beers most likely will not be your experience unless you know which guide is tied into which village. Miguel for example knows the people of Santa Maria Fatima very well, (in fact I went to a small funeral with him a few yrs back). Ashuko has other connections and an amazing knowledge of the natural environment, including Sappo and ayahuasca ceremonies. The local wildlife in and around Iquitos has been over hunted and you will need a few days down river to get into the real deal. You will be relegated to places like Monkey Island or some zoo on the way back as the experience with the iconic creatures of the Amazon .I write this as I don't want my enthusiasm for such a special place to be misrepresented by someone buying a simple tour thinking they will get the same experience. It's a wonderful experience for the casual traveler and places like Maniti off er a nice toe in the water experience which is perfect for most; but I would be remiss is I did not offer the fact that I am a profession al photo and writer and have access most wont..
