This film leads you along the trail of amber in the Dominican Republic.

We follow him down into deep tunnels dug with pickaxes and metal rods, not knowing when one enters whether one will come out alive.
After long searches, the precious resin fossil will come out of the earth in front of your eyes. In a hurry to profit from his discovery, the man goes to collectors who will give him a good price.
To the frenzied rhythms of carnivals and Caribbean music, the amber passes from hand to hand, some pieces selling for several thousand pesos.
There is still a long journey to be made before reaching the Dominican artists who can carve the most beautiful and creative pieces.
The exceptional pieces will reach the jeweler Tournaire in Place Vendôme, Paris who will adorn some of his creations with them.

Visit the Amber Museum, the island’s oldest fortress, rum and chocolate factories, the city’s main square, and top it all off with a bird’s-eye view of the city from a cable car.
This great Puerto Plata tour begins with a visit to a Dominican Republic rum factory to see how it’s made and even sample some traditional Dominican Republic rum.
Then, marvel at the immense collection of amber pieces in the Amber Musuem. There are valuables pieces that come from an extinct tropical tree. Near the Amber Museum is the city center’s main square and central park, where you can walk around and purchase souvenirs, local crafts, food and drinks like Mamajuana (a mixture of rum, honey, red wine and herbs). You can even watch and learn about cigar rolling while you’re exploring the central area.
Then, it’s time to head to the sky to Puerto Plata’s famous cable car. This aerial tramway is the only one in the Caribbean, and you’ll soar 2,600 feet to Pico Isabel de Torres Mountain for sweeping views of the city you’ve just explored on foot. At the top, take pictures of a Christ statue and a beautiful botanical garden before coming back down to the ground.
Your Puerto Plata city tour then takes you to the Fortaleza San Felipe, a fortress with a stunning view of the Atlantic Ocean. Fortaleza San Felipe is considered one of the oldest structures in the Americas. Today, it’s a quaint museum that displays antique cannon balls, guns and other war artifacts, transporting you to the time when the early Americas began.
Following your encounter with history, conclude your Puerto Plata city tour with a stop at a chocolate factory, where you’ll look at artisans turning the cacao into the island’s delectable chocolate.
