I was an alter boy here for two years. St John the Baptist roman catholic cathedral in St John's NFLD. Built between 1839 and 1855 in Lombard-Romanesque style, The Basilica Cathedral of St. John The Baptist at one time dominated the skyline of the city and impressed visitors with its striking Altar of Sacrifice alongside one of the most valuable pieces of statuary. The church acts as a symbol for the Irish heritage in Canada, with many Irish contributing to the build of the religious structure.

Church of St. John in the Wilderness - Time Lapse
St. John in the Wilderness is an Anglican church dedicated to John the Baptist built in 1852, located near Dharamshala, India, on the way to McLeodGanj, at Forsyth Gunj. Set amidst deodar forest, and built in neo-Gothic architecture, the church is known for its Belgian stained-glass windows donated by Lady Elgin (Mary Louisa Lambton), wife of Lord Elgin.
Though the church structure survived the 1905 Kangra earthquake, which killed close to 19,800 people, injured thousands in the Kangra area, and destroyed most buildings in Kangra,
Mcleodganj and Dharamshala; its spire, Bell tower, was however destroyed. Later, a new bell, built in 1915 by Mears and Stainbank, was brought from England and installed outside in the compound of the church.
Its churchyard is the final resting place of Lord Elgin, who served as Governor General of the Province of Canada, who oversaw the Creation of Responsible Government in Canada, and later, while in China, ordered the complete destruction of the Old Summer Palace. He became Governor-General & Viceroy of India in 1861 during the British Raj, though he soon died at Dharamshala on November 20, 1863, and was buried there.

St. John's Cemetery
Established in 1788, Sandwich is Windsor’s most historic neighbourhood and has been the setting for many battles over the years. From the earliest Indigenous settlements to now, it has played a key role in shaping our local history. With veterans from as far back as the Seven Years War (1756-1763) buried at St. John’s Anglican Church, the cemetery serves as a who’s who of Sandwich Town’s past. There’s a significant amount of Canada’s military history buried at the corner of Brock and Sandwich Streets. Peter Berry of the Windsor Port Authority has been volunteering his time to not only research and identify all the veteran graves, but also to help maintain the churchyard so the history of the area can be preserved and appreciated, and our respects can be paid.
