Appledore on the Torridge in North Devon | Personal Walk Around Pretty Quayside Village
Appledore is a beautiful little village on the edge of the River Torridge in North Devon. I filmed this 'walk around' so my daughter has some memories of her family who we can trace back to around the 1600s. Her Great, Great Grandfather was Coxwain of the Braunton Lifeboat in the 1860s and 70s and was awarded medals by the RNLI for rescuing the crew of a ship in 1971; he lived on Irsha Street and was also the Grocer.
Family owned many houses in Appledore and along Irsha Street and one of them was even a Master Mariner. I love tracing family history and hearing stories. If you are watching this and have family in Appledore or who were in the past please leave a comment below I would love to hear your stories.

Who am I? I ask myself this on a daily basis, it's the menopause that causes it!.........Hello! I'm Callie and I live in Devon. I am a parent of an 11 year old and step-mum to 5 fabulous older kids who have all flown the nest on their own life paths. I live with one female ankle biting, apologise after Patterdale cross Jack Russel dog, one angry female rabbit, and 2 broodmares! I love sharing my lifestyle - which is currently a lot of me standing in a wet and windy field moaning about the weather! VISITING APPLEDORE, BIDEFORD, WESTWARD HO AND INSTOW
A short winter break in North Devon, UK
Places to see in ( Appledore - UK )
Places to see in ( Appledore - UK )
Appledore is a village at the mouth of the River Torridge, about 6 miles west of Barnstaple and about 3 miles north of Bideford in the county of Devon, England. It is home to Appledore Shipbuilders, a lifeboat slipway and Hocking's Ice Cream, a brand of ice cream only sold in North Devon. The local football club is Appledore F.C.
The Bideford, Westward Ho! and Appledore Railway (B,WH&A,R) was most unusual amongst British railways in that although it was built as a standard gauge line (4 ft 8½in) it was not joined to the rest of the railway network, despite the London and South Western Railway having a station at Bideford, East-the-Water, meaning on the other side of the River Torridge from the main town. The line was wholly situated on the peninsula made up of Westward Ho!, Northam and Appledore with extensive sand dunes, at the mouth of the Torridge and Taw estuary. Appledore railway station and the whole line closed in 1917 having been requisitioned by the War Office (Stuckey 1962).
A lifeboat service for the area around the mouth of the River Taw was introduced in February 1825. The boat was kept in the King's Watch House at Appledore for six years until a new boat house was built at Watertown, half a mile nearer the sea. From 1848 a second lifeboat was stationed at Braunton Burrows on the opposite side of the estuary but its crew always came from Appledore. A third station was built at Northam Burrows to the west of Appledore in 1851 and the Appledore boat moved there. A new station at Badsteps allowed Northam Burrows to close in 1889 and Braunton Burrows closed in 1918 as it was difficult to find men and horses to launch the boat. Appledore Lifeboat Station was rebuilt in 2001 and is home to an inshore lifeboat; a larger all-weather boat is kept moored just off shore.
Appledore is served by First Devon and Cornwall service 2, and Stagecoach Devon service 21A which both run between Appledore, Northam, Bideford, East the Water, Instow, Fremington, Bickington, Barnstaple station, Barnstaple, Chivenor, Braunton, Knowle, Mullacott Cross and Ilfracombe.

Northam Burrows, North Devon in November then January! | River Torridge and Taw |
Whatever the time of the year the wind can really blow across Northam Burrows. We went for a walk to The Bar last week where the Rivers Torridge and Taw meet. To show the contrast I added in some footage recorded in November 2017 when despite the sun being out the wind was so strong it was blowing me about (sorry for the wobbly footage, it was the wind. I think it was about 40mph that weekend).
Don't forget to leave a comment on where you like to walk in North Devon, is there somewhere you would like us to go and vlog about?

The Northern Burrows is a scientifically important area which juts out into the mouth of the estuary. It is a site of special scientific interest with a range of habitats including sand dunes, salt marsh, grassland and rocky shore. It’s no surprise to find the area is alive with wildlife – from the smallest plant and insect, to vivid lichen and birdlife.
Its a gorgeous place to spend time with family, very clean and quiet beach

A Lovely Day in Instow
Hello everyone :)
Here's another collection for you today. I've been on holiday this last week - hence the delay in this video - but I'll be posting new images more frequently now that I'm back ;)
All of these photos are from a chilly, but sunny day in Instow, North Devon. The different light conditions reflect how often the sun came out though!
I'm also sampling some music in the background. This is just myself playing a simple piece. I'll try to improve quality as I haven't had the facilities to record at college as it's the summer.
Have a beautiful day, and please rate and subscribe to my channel for more content in the near future. :)
Peace and love.
