About Battambang:
Battambang is the capital city of Battambang province in northwestern Cambodia.
Founded in the 11th century by the Khmer Empire, Battambang is the leading rice-producing province of the country. For nearly 100 years it was a major commercial hub and provincial capital of Siamese province of Inner Cambodia (1795-1907), though it was always populated by Khmer, with some ethnic Vietnamese, Lao, Thai and Chinese. Battambang remains the hub of Cambodia's northwest, connecting the region with Phnom Penh and Thailand.
The city is situated on the Sangkae River, a tranquil, small body of water that winds its way picturesquely through Battambang Province. As with much of Cambodia, French Colonial architecture is a notable aspect of the city, with some of the best-preserved examples in the country.

EXPLORING BATTAMBANG, CAMBODIA ក្រុងបាត់ដំបង ????????
Battambang ក្រុងបាត់ដំបង is a relaxed city, despite being one of Cambodia's most populated. I stroll around its charming colonial-influenced streets, before embarking on a trip to Phnom Sampov, where I discover more of the horrors of the late 1970s at the Killing Caves. At the peak of Phnom Sampov, beside incredible pagoda's bursting with Khmer architecture, there are beautiful views of the surrounding green rice fields which stretch for miles. I then end this epic day by watching millions of bats fly out of Phnom Sampov's cave for nearly an hour at sunset, a wonderful natural sight to behold.

We traveled to Battambang province on 30 December 2016 and stay one night there. This video started from the morning of 31st December 2016, we put our luggages back in our van and traveled around the city. We first saw the Battambang Market, then we turn left into Kampheng temple to see the ancient art on the wall and pay our respect. We rushed back to our breakfast along Sangke River which are chicken and pork porridge. After breakfast, we visited the the 2 lion stones by a bridge over sangke river and provincial city hall. The last mission in the city of Battambang is the 10th coconut tree, the most popular place by Sangke river where teenagers like to date in the evening. There are many many more places to see in Battambang city that we haven't been to or we don't know. You can please comments below adding locations for our next trips.

Battambang, a Good example of the French Colonial Architecture in Cambodia
Battambang is Cambodia's second most populous city, and a popular tourist destination due to the many nearby ancient temples, Buddhist shrines and the infamous bamboo railway. It is home to some of the best-preserved, French colonial architecture in the country.
The city is situated by the Sangkae River, a tranquil, small body of water that winds its way through Battambang Province providing its nice picturesque setting. As with much of Cambodia, the French Colonial architecture is an attractive bonus of the city.
Battambang is the second-largest city in Cambodia with a population of over 250,000. Founded in the 11th century by the Khmer Empire, Battambang is well known for being the leading rice-producing province of the country. For over 500 years, it was the main commercial hub of Siam's Eastern Provinces, though it was always populated by Khmer with a mix of ethnic Vietnamese, Lao, Thai and Chinese.
Battambang was established as an important trading city with around 2,500 residents in the 18th century. They lived mostly along a single road parallel to the Sangkae River. In 1795 Thailand annexed much of northwestern Cambodia including the provinces of Battambang and Siem Reap.
Following the colonization of the French in Battambang the colonial administration developed an urban layout which enlarged the size of the French colonial town. In the first time development, they constructed a grid pattern of well-defined streets, put in the urban structures and built three main streets parallel to the Sangkae River, connected the both side with two bridges in 1917.
Still today Battambang is the main hub of the Northwest connecting the entire region with Phnom Penh and Thailand, and as such it's a vital link to Cambodia.
