Cuenca is famous for its handicrafts, which are outstanding in variety, color and quality. These crafts, inspired by local imagination, are created in straw, horn, cloth, embroidery, knit, clay, wrought iron, leather as well as fine gold and silver jewelry.

Amelia and JP VLOG 117: In this video, we had the great honor of interviewing a famous artist from the Cuenca Ecuador art scene, Patricio Palomeque. We attended his art exhibit opening almost a month ago with Christina (our new Spanish tutor) and thoroughly enjoyed it. So we made arrangements to return and talk to him in more detail about his art.
This is a bilingual video. We have a lot of Spanish speaking viewers, so we wanted to share Patricio Palomeque's explanation of his art in Spanish, as well as Christina's translation in English. If you don't speak Spanish, you can skip forward in the video to the English-speaking parts. However, I did share video of some of the exhibits while Patricio was talking.

Painting with Cuenca's art community at Vino & Van Gogh
Cuenca Ecuador has a thriving arts community, and you can experience it hands on! In this episode we look in on a continuing art event, called Vino and Van Gogh, hosted by Cafe San Sebas, and led by artista Amelia Earl. Here you can start with a blank canvas and leave with a finished painting, all while enjoying the creative community and great food. Whether you live in Cuenca, or are just visiting, no matter what language you speak, you can join in, make friends, and your own masterpiece. Cafe San Sebas is located in Parque San Sebastian, in a neighborhood that dates back to 1557. Within a stone's throw of the Cafe, you'll find the Museo Municipal de Arte Moderno (Museum of Moden Art.) So, check out this amazing museum for inspiration, then get hands-on with Vino & Van Gogh!

Amelia and JP VLOG 60: While Amelia's back in the States, I filmed the Cuenca Ecuador Rotary: Mercado de Artesanias Rotary. It's usually just called the rotary by the gringos and it's located at Vargas Machuca y Gaspar Sangurima just one block East of Mercado 9 de Octubre.
The Cuenca Ecuador Rotary has lots of mostly indigenous vendors selling furniture, metalwork, hand-woven baskets, pottery, kitchen utensils, clothes, bags, rugs, souvenirs, etc. It's a great place to find unique gifts for your loved ones, or obscure items for yourself....

Este es la carrera de Downhill MTB (Mountain Bike) en Cuenca, Ecuador el 18 de febrero 2018 organizado por Harold Naranjo de Global MTB, con aproximadamente 100 corredores sobre una pista bien trabajada y en excelente estado, con varios saltos, puentes y obstáculos técnicos. También habían muchísimos aficionados del Downhill MTB con muchos ánimos para apoyar a los corredores. La carrera fue todo un éxito, ¡felicidades a los organizadores y todos los participantes!
