Austin Texas Steam Engine Train Ride Cedar Park to Bertram, TX
I didn't have much footage to work with so I made the most of it. Footage was originally shot in 1080p on the Canon 7D with the Canon 24mm-105mm ef series lens.
This is a short video of the Austin Texas Steam Engine Train that departs from Cedar Park, TX and travels through the Texas hill country stopping for 15min at the historic Bertram depot then heads back to Cedar Park.
Enjoy the 1920's to1950's passenger cars where you can bring your own food and snacks. The Betram Flyer train features a concession stand and gift shop. You are able to walk around freely from car to car.
1995 Southern Pacific Steam Locomotive Action Texas Hill Country
Southern Pacific #786 was built by the American Locomotive Company, Brooks Works, Dunkirk, New York in 1916. It was withdrawn from service and donated to the City of Austin, Texas in 1956. It sat idle for 34 years suffering indignant vandalism as is common with park locomotives. In 1989 the #786 was leased to the Austin Steam Train Association (ASTA) and removed from display the following year.
The locomotive restoration was started in 1990 at the Westinghouse Motor Co. shops in Georgetown, Texas. Initial restoration was completed by professional and volunteer staff in a relatively short amount of time. Shakedown runs were conducted in December 1991. The Hill Country Flyer passenger train runs commenced from Cedar Park, Texas to Burnet Texas in July 1992.
In 1999 #786 was again withdrawn from service after an old crack in the cylinder saddle was rediscovered. The damage was repaired long ago by the Southern Pacific long ago but ASTA thought the Cylinders should be replaced.
Little did I know that, in 1995, when this video material was shot, four short years later there would be no more steam for the Austin Steam Train Association. To this day (2019) #786 remains disassembled at Cedar Park.
ASTA continues to solicit donations to repair and reassemble #786 with little visible progress. Popular steam preservation community thoughts are, however, that the Texas & Pacific #610 will run at Palestine, Texas before #786 ever again turns a wheel on its own.
This video, recorded in February 1995, are some of the sights and sounds of #786 pulling its train from Cedar Park to Burnet, Texas.
It culminates with a cab ride, footplate to UK Commonwealth fans, leaving from Burnet. There is a 4000ft backing move from the Burnet Depot to the Wye to turn the train for its return to Cedar Park.

The Hill Country Flyer Leaving Burnet, TX
On January 12th, 2019, my Dad and I went out to chase the Hill Country Flyer back from Burnet. It is a tourist train that runs out of Cedar Park.
While this certainly is not interesting for crossing geeks like myself, here we see some unique action. The train backs out of the Burnet Depot and in doing so, crosses one crossing. The crew must flag the crossing since the rear car has no horn or bell. The chase continues through the next two weeks of videos with 6 more crossings!

Cedar Park, TX - A Full Service City
20-miles north of Austin, Cedar Park, Texas residents went to their city leaders wanting more - more shopping, more entertainment, and more jobs. The city responded and strategized ways to develop Cedar Park into a full service city. Today, there's a hospital, a world-class sports arena and a shopping mall, but ICMA TV finds these large city amenities aren't enough to kick those small town values.
