Located in Baja California Sur, Mexico, the Los Cabos Open of Surf features the World Surf League Qualifying Series 6000 Women's event at the famed Zippers surf break.
Since 2013, female athletes from around the world have been traveling to Los Cabos in hopes of earning vital points towards their professional surfing career, with hopes of one day qualifying for a spot amongst the elite women competing on the World Championship Tour. With high stakes at hand, and some of female surfing's best athletes in attendance, this year's Los Cabos Open of Surf showcased plenty of action and exciting upsets. This year's event champion, Nikki van Dijk, couldn't be happier to claim the prestigious title.
Though most of the competitors were focused on the trophy and prize money, none could help but enjoy the incredible scenery surrounding their beachside hotels, the authentic food, and consistently friendly local people.

Hydro Flyboard in Los Cabos | Baja California Surf, Mexico
The Surf Channel recently ventured down to Baja California Sur, Mexico for the Los Cabos Open of Surf featuring the World Surf League QS Women's 6000 event. While in town for the competition, we of course made time to surf and check out a few other must-experience activities.
One of the highlights of our trip was braving the Hydro Flyboard jet pack device. Located at Marina Puerto Los Cabos (just minutes away from the famed Zippers surf spot), the Hydro Flyboard owners Kristian, Mafer, and their sidekick Petunia (the most adorable petite Chihuahua that mans the dock while your are in flight) are some of the friendliest people in Los Cabos, and are there waiting upon your arrival to walk you step-by-step through the process.
Kristian is the personal trainer of the Hydro Flyboard excursion, and he does an amazing job of preparing you both in and out of the water for the safest flying experience possible. The best part is, anyone can do this. There are no physical requirements that suggest you need prior experience in any type of board sport to fly, you don't even need to know how to swim! This comes in handy when traveling with a group, it won't matter who tags along on your trip, they can still participate.
When it comes to the actually flying, this is a MUST experience activity in Los Cabos. It's not like any other type of sport or activity that we've ever done, and it's easy to learn quickly. Within 2o minutes you will be flying high above the water level, even diving under water and shooting back out! It is so much fun to learn, and gives you a sense of accomplishment learning a new, rapidly growing sport.

Mexico Baja California Roadtrip 2017 - Tijuana to Cabo San Lucas 4k
Viele haben nur den Kopf geschüttelt, auf Gefahren hingewiesen und uns davon abgeraten. Lasst euch eines sagen, es gab nicht einen Moment wo wir uns unsicher gefühlt haben, ganz im Gegenteil. Die Mexikaner waren unglaublich nett und hilfsbereit zu uns. Wir haben unzählige Eindrücke gesammelt und legändere Abende verbracht. Sicherlich war der Roadtrip nicht ganz ohne und ist auch nicht für jedermann geeignet. Wer aber in das Land, speziell Baja California, eintauchen möchte, der sollte in Bewegung bleiben und auch die teilweise riskanten Straßen (Vollkasko!!) in Kauf nehmen. Eine Drohne hat uns auf die erste Strecke von 1.623,4 km begleitet und liefert einen kleinen Eindruck vom Abendteuer Baja.
Vielen Dank an Mirco Erdmann der diesen Trip seit 10 Jahren geplant hat und Olaf Schumacher für seine spontane Begleitung und Steuerung der Drohne. Respekt zollt euch!

Once I reached the tip of the peninsula, I stopped to catch my breath - and to take a surfing lesson! I had only surfed once before, in Hawaii, and I was thrilled that I was able to catch a couple of waves. I didn't complete embarrass myself, and that's always important!
There is a lot of fantastic surfing on the Baja Peninsula, both on the Pacific side and the Gulf of California side. Surf's up!

The beaches, surfing, and sport fishing opportunities in Cabo San Lucas have attracted a great number of Mexican natives and foreigners to spend their vacations in large-scale tourist developments there. The development of Cabo's tourism industry was prompted by the Mexican government's development of infrastructure to turn Cabo San Lucas into a major center for tourism in Mexico, beginning in 1974.
You'll find crashing waves off Cabo's Pacific coast and sheltered, calm water on the Sea of Cortez. Given those options, Cabo has built a rare reputation for both excellent outdoor sports (big-game fishing, diving and kayaking, among others) and pure beach relaxation. Of course, there's also great nightlife.
LAND'S END
Located at the southern end of Cabo San Lucas and sandwiched between Playa del Amor (Lovers beach) and Playa del Divorcio (Divorce beach), these rock formations were created from the rough winds and seas of the southern Baja Peninsula. Sea lions frequent the area (especially along the Los Frailes rock formation), and Land's End remains excellent for couples looking for a romantic spot to see the sunset.

Cabo really is a beautiful place. I would never have expected to even go here, but it ended up being somewhat of a last minute trip. I explored parts of town and have gotten to know a few of the locals who are now my friends. I met someone coincidentally and ended up talking to this person for hours. Not to mention all the amazing people I met at the hostel, also. It was such a new experience for me but I knew I was more than ready. It was also my first time staying at a hostel and I loved everything about it; from all the nice people, staff, and the big room everyone slept in. I enjoyed every moment of this trip (good and bad), getting there, being in the airports, being on the planes (I love being on planes), and even on my way back to the airport on the bus, I met a very nice person whom I had a conversation with. I had fun interacting with everyone around me because it was all part of my journey. This trip meant a lot to me and proved that I was capable of creating it for myself. I really hope you enjoy watching a small part of what I experienced there.
