Barefoot Traveler Rooms Guesthouse
For our first visit to Puerto Rico I am happy to say that we somehow stumbled on probably the most ideal location, the Barefoot Travelers Rooms Guesthouse. I rarely ever give any service oriented establishment the highest rating across the board, but the folks at BT really earned it. The location is ideal for quick adventures and they do a great job making you feel very welcome in their home. They are avid Hang Gliders although that was not our purpose for being there. We wanted to Snorkel, Kayak and travel into El Yunque. All of which were far beyond my expectations. The water near Monkey Island was great the day we were there. Of course it can have it's off days but that is to be expected. Keishya and Bob were friendly from the start, they directed us to the local eateries and grocery store. We went out one night and cooked in the community kitchen the next. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The opportunity to meet new people is high because you stay in close proximity in the down stairs of their home. There are plenty of amenities, but the natural setting all around did not permit us to stay in doors more than we needed to for sleep and food.
From a travelers perspective this place wins big in the following:
Off the beaten path location
Knowledgeable and Very friendly owners...They are friends with local farmers, restaurant owners, and just about any other person you may need to know while you are there.
Great Location for a getaway, spectacular scenery from the nearby beach, nature preserve/park walking distance away, local food options, fairly close islands to snorkel around and fun activities.
Don't expect some prissy B&B, these folks let you be self sufficient, yet they are friendly and pointed us in the right direction for all the things we came to Puerto Rico to get out and do ourselves. Bob took us on a great paddle and snorkel trip to Monkey Island and we even had the chance to play some games and drink wine with the other folks on one of the nights we were there. All and all this was probably the most fun location I've stayed in a vacation. Lot's of thanks to Bob & Keishya!
Cheers

Spanking the Puerto Rican Monkey
When we went to Puerto Rico we went on a trip to Monkey Island to go snorkeling. Monkey island is full of rhesus monkeys to be studied and people are not allowed on the island. Off shore was a ship wreck where we were snorkeling. When we swam back, this monkey had swam to our boat, boarded, shit everywhere and the captain of the boat had to remove the monkey. The poor captain was scared as could be, and I'm afraid he may have shit himself as well!!
BOATING with MONKEYS
Off the south coast of Puerto Rico there is a Monkey island
3 miles sailing from La Parguera village. Many moons ago our
family sailed in our homemade boat to the mangrove island. Here is some old 8mm footage of the family outing.
