50 years ago (29 September 1969) a terrible earthquake (6.3 on the Richter scale ... about 10-15 seconds) hit the area with the epicenter at Tulbagh. The church took a blow and had to be demolished. The pipe organ fortunately were safed and brought over to the new church, and some extra ranks were added.
