The new Parliament Complex of the country is very close proximity to this wetland park. Mosaic of wetlands fringe the Beautiful waterfronts of Diyawanna Lake around the Parliament Complex and Beddagana wetland is one of this green entities.
Beddagana Wetland Park is nestled within the Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte Bird Sanctuary and is home for many endemic birds and other faunal species such as butterflies, dragonflies, and mammals native to Sri Lanka and Asian Wetlands. Variety of floral species common to an inland wetland comprising of endemic and threatened category create the niches of the habitat. The Park is a popular stopover of the complex density of migrant birds during its season from August to April each year.

STORYLINE:
A bomb exploded at the entrance of a popular department store in a Colombo suburb on Wednesday, killing at least 16 people and wounding 37 others, according to the military.
Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara blamed Tamil Tiger rebels for the bomb, although it would be a rare attack by the separatist group on a purely civilian area in recent years.
Civilians have been killed in attacks in the past, but usually only ones on government and military targets.
Rebel spokesman Rasiah Ilanthirayan did not answer repeated calls from The AP seeking comment.
The blast on Wednesday evening occurred just outside the four-story No Limits store in Nugegoda as commuters crowded a nearby bus stop during the evening rush hour, officials said.
The powerful explosion shattered the department store's windows and sent piles of crumbled concrete pouring onto the bloodstained sidewalk, according to an AP photographer at the scene.
Crumpled and charred parts of motorcycles and three-wheeled taxis were scattered nearby.
The bomb may have exploded when a security guard at the mall became suspicious about a parcel and tried to open it, a defence official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to talk to the media.
However, police at the scene said the explosives may have been in one of the three-wheeled taxis that were destroyed.
The Tamil Tigers have been fighting since 1983 to create a separate homeland for Sri Lanka's minority ethnic Tamils following decades of discrimination by governments controlled by the Sinhalese majority.
The fighting has killed an estimated 70,000 people.
In the past two years, rebel bombers had avoided deliberately targeting civilians, though they have ambushed military convoys at crowded places, causing many civilian deaths.
