For the first week of my time in Colombia I wanted to dive into the history and see the main sights in the colonial town of Cartagena, therefore I put together a list of the best things to do in Cartagena and went out to explore. Beyond the popular sights and touristic spots I found some great restaurants, went to a few picturesque Carribbean islands and discovered a beach town which is still fairly unknow by like minded people who are backpacking in Colombia.
From the historic city center to recommendable food places this video is meant to also help you find your way around and plan your stay in the area of Cartagena. All my tips can also be found on my website, this includes sights as well as restaurants and hotels in Cartagena.
In the next episode we are going to explore the various sights in and around the city of Medellin and take a look at the violent past of the country as well as at the transformation of it.
Things to do in Cartagena (Cololmbia) as shown in this episode:
Centro Historico / Old Town & Free Tour
Old City Wall / Walled City
Getsemani neighborhood
Volcano El Totumo
Castillo San Felipe de Barajas / Fortress of San Felipe
Paraiso Secreto on Isla Grande, Islas de Rosario
Rincon del Mar
Isla Mucura, Isla Tintipan, Islote at Islas de San Bernardo
— About Exploring Colombia —
Colombia, a country which many only know because of it’s violent past, has been on my list since I went to South America for my first long-term trip in 2012. 6 Years later and with 5 weeks to spend it was finally time to properly explore my country number 9 on the continent.
For the first part of the trip I’ll be traveling with my mate David to the historical city of Cartagena, some picturesque Carribean islands and to the city of Medellin where we get to learn about the violent past and the transformation of the country. After a few days in the capital Bogota I’ll be joined by my good friend Stefan to learn salsa and take on some outdoor adventures in Cali before heading up to Santa Marta where we checkout the most beautiful beaches, float down rivers and hike through the mountains.

Denied Entry Into Colombia!! Travel With Me Cartagena Colombia 2018
Travel With Me Cartagena Colombia
My Sister was denied entry into Colombia in a very hostile fashion because there was a small tear in her passport. READ BELOW & on AutumnVLifestyle.com
Imagine you planned a nice exotic vacation out of the country, and BOOM when you arrive to your destination you are denied entry into the country!!! Well that was my sister. She planned a group birthday trip to Cartagena, Colombia and was denied entry into the county at the airport. There are many layers to this story but I am going to keep it as short as possible
(I will say that I believe that the over all attitude towards North Americans isn’t good in some other contures because of our politicians that will remain nameless being hateful towards them.)
There were four of us traveling as a group. We are from the USA, when we arrived to JFK airport a Copa Airline worker informed my sister that she had a tear in her passport and said that Panama had gotten really strict about things like that. The airline worker called her supervisor showed them my sister’s passport and they gave her the okay to travel. Panama was our layover destination so we felt like we dodged a bullet once we arrived. After about traveling to 5-6 hours we arrived in Panama. We did not go through immigration in Panama because it was just a layover we had put the passport issue behind us and we were ready to have fun in Colombia!
When we arrived to Colombia we were excited we couldn’t wait to celebrate my sisters birthday. That excitement quickly faded when we realized my sister was having an issue at the immigration booth after the rest of us were already stamped in. We all rushed to her to see what was going on and it was all bad from there. The Colombian immigration worker denied her entry into the country because of the tear. According to them passports have to be perfect to enter their country and cannot be altered in any way. We pleaded with them and tried to reason with them. Continually going over the fact that the tear was on the seam of the passport and that none of her information was affected.
At this point the entire immigration waiting line is starting to wonder what’s going on. This was done all done out in the open. they did not even have the decency to pull her to the side. They were treating my sister like she was a criminal or like she had done something wrong. She began crying and trying to reason with them and they very rudely did not care. The put her back on the plane to JFK, didn’t even brother to get her luggage or allow us to make a plan before they sent her back. One immigration worker and I quote said, “ Forget about her” numerous times. At that point emotions were running too high and I could tell that it could only get worse from there so we had to accept the fact that there was nothing more we could do. They told my sister that if she didn’t be quiet and stop crying and compose herself they would handcuff her. They told us we were already stamped in and to leave the area.
The rest of us felt really helpless and after trying everything there was nothing we could do. We were traveling on the weekend so all the Embassy’s were closed. No one at the airport cared about helping us. It was truly like a scene from a movie and it left a very bad taste in our mouths. The rest of us had to make the best of the trip, which we tried to do. We had to keep explaining the story over and over again because we were missing a person, which made it hard to put the incident behind us. To add insult to injury once we were in the country the locals were saying that they never heard of anything like that happening which made us more upset. I travel often so I know that many things can go wrong but this was beyond. My sister was out of hundreds of dollars and more importantly her birthday trip was ruined.
After the dust settled we made the best of our short trip. We went into town, went to the beach, the museum the pool, we made it work. I will say that Cartagena is a little rough on the edges but the culture was beautiful. I really felt like I was getting to experience what Latin America is all about. Is Cartagena fancy … NO but it is beautiful in so many ways. Our first evening there I said I would never go back but I take that back. I would go back to soak up more of the culture but travelers beware! Make sure your passports and travel documentation are in perfect condition.
All in my entire sister did not know she had a small tear in her passport, nor did we know it was an issue. She mad it home safely and that’s all that matters I would say this has been the biggest traveling learning lesson I have had thus far and I hope our expiernce can help someone else.
On the bright side Cartagena was very inexpensive once in the country. We brought back some great items and escaped the East Coast cold for a few days.

Cartagena Colombia : South America’s Hottest Women
Colombian women have a lot to give when it comes to dating and marriage. Latinas in Cartagena can be expected to be one of the most alluring and loving women. The women of Cartagena pride themselves on being great women.
But what does it take to win the heart of a Latina from Colombia?
Colombianas are arguably among the most beautiful women anyone could lay their eyes on. However, their charm goes beyond physicality.
Often, they say that men are attracted to physical features or the looks of a woman but fall in love with her character and qualities. Fortunately, Colombianas have the looks, the character, and the qualities. This is the reason why they are sought-after by a lot of men of different nationalities.
With that in mind, winning the heart of Colombian women takes more than just a man’s looks, but also of his character and heart. Because love should be won through love --- amor por amor.

Cartagena De Indias, Colombia ???????? - Caribbean Cruise Port of Call
A visit to the beautiful port city of Cartagena de Indias on Colombia's Caribbean coast ????
Cartagena de Indias, Colombia was our second port of call on our 11 night Caribbean cruise aboard the MSC Divina from Miami.
Cartagena de Indias is located on Colombia's Caribbean coast, the most popular cruise port in the country and one of its most popular tourist destinations.
The 16th century city still retains its historic walls with cobblestone streets and brightly coloured colonial buildings. It's a nice place to ramble around.
Popular sights in the city include the Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas, Palace of Inquisition and the walled city.
Cartagena de Indias is a really beautiful city to walk around and Colombia is a stunning country to visit.
