African: Zulu Performers
Imagine a youthful, mixed gender, Ladysmith Black Mambazo with high-energy dance. This is a company of genuine young Zulu singers and dancers who deliver a heady mix of traditional African harmonies and high-energy, athletic dance - all traditionally costumed - and supported by drum-rhythms. Their stage shows are exciting, enthralling and hugely entertaining, and they attract enthusiastic audiences. They are primarily a group of six, but they can do groups of three or four for small events. If you would like to book a performance of the Gumboot dance, this requires five or six performers.
From prestigious events at the British Museum and the South African High Commission to community events at your local school, this new and vibrant company of Zulus reaches back into the past to preserve ancient skills while stretching forwards to contemporary Africa. Direct from Durban in KwaZulu Natal, individual members of the group have performed in the UK and abroad, including special events for the Queen and for Nelson Mandela. They are not only great concert performers, but also excellent communicators who can deliver outdoor performances for special events, festivals, summer-seasons, galas and weddings. They also offer a range of educational workshops for young people of all ages and abilities.
A typical show encompasses: Maskandi (indigenous Zulu music); traditional song and dance compilations comprising of Zulu psalms (Amahubo), traditional songs (Amaculo Esintu) and various genres of traditional dance (i.e. Ilngoma, Umzanzi, Isigenyane, Nendlamu); visual arts - costume and beadwork. They place great value on the oral relaying of information from the older generation to the youngest (Ukuthamundwa).
Workshops:
Workshops can all be adapted for festivals, schools or corporate days fostering team spirit. The group are experienced educators with a diverse programme of educational workshops that encourage diversity awareness; the breaking down of barriers surrounding prejudice; ethnic, religious and racial equality; community building; international understanding leading to local benefits.

South Africa : A Shorthand History
A broad visual overview of South African History and the rich tapestry of early people who made it their home from its first inhabitants, the Khoisan, to the many settlers that followed…the ancestors of the Zulus from North East Africa in 1800 years ago into the northern part of what is now KwaZulu Natal and the Bantu who migrated southwards from Central and East Africa and the Dutch in the 17th century with the arrival of Jan van Riebeck who created a refreshment station at the Cape for ships navigating the southern tip of the continent along the sea route opened by Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama in the 15th century. The next big wave of settlers came with the arrival of the 1820 English settlers and as these different groups of people vied for land, conflict was inevitable. In the Eastern Cape hostilities broke out between the British settlers and the resident Khosa people paving the way for a 100 years of war. The Dutch migrated inland to escape British rule which gave rise to the 2 Boer Republics, the Free State and the Transvaal, and culminated in the Anglo Boer War when gold was discovered in President Kruger’s Transvaal. General Jan Smuts tried to bring Boer and Brit together after the Anglo Boer War with limited success. He was regarded by his own kind as a traitor to the Afrikaner cause, especially when committing South African Troops to fight on the side of Britain in two World Wars, at a time when many Afrikaners sided with the Germans, a sentiment expressed in the creation of the Ossewabrandwag. All of this contributed in no small measure to the United Party under Smuts’ leadership losing to the National Party in 1948, paving the way for Apartheid Laws and the further disenfranchisement of Blacks who had already suffered through a policy of separate development and the introduction of the Native Land Act in 1913 which in turn led to the creation of the ANC. With the unbanning of the ANC and the release of Nelson Mandela in 1990, South Africa was to experience a democratic government for the first time creating a social environment where it was possible for its people to look beyond racial differences and recognize the common humanity in each other, working together to create a better South Africa for all in a spirit of national unity …. a vision of this great man that has yet to be fulfilled.

2007 BALLITO DESTRUCTIVE OCEAN STORM – CHAKAS ROCK AND THOMPSONS BAY 2017 REVIEW - PART 4
Severely destructive 2007 Ballito, KZN, coastal marine storm left Thompson’s Bay tidal pool, promenade and other infrastructure on the shoreline in a badly damaged state. The beach has since been restored to some former glory and it is a good time to look at visuals from just before the storm in February 2007, some just after the storm from March 2007 and then what it looked like in 2013 and 2017. Our journey here is to show you what the situation was at that time and what it is now in 2017. We start briefly at the famous Chakas Rock to take a broadview over Thompson’s Bay and then we visit Thompsons Bay and the tidal pool. We used a lot of clips from that time and it is very informative and this video allows us to put that event firmly in history. The details of what occurred were originally discussed in the first part of this video series and it would make sense to have a look at it. Why did we have this massive backline erosion of the beach and could it have been prevented?
I take you on tour with me and I have decided to spend adequate time at every location, so that all can be devoted to history. Therefore, I have made this as a 5 part VLOG series of which this is the first one. This is part 4 and it is about Thompsons Bay of course.
Me and my family walked on all the Ballito beaches during that time and I took a lot of photos. Many of these include them in these videos. Combined with narratives, they should help to pin this event to history.
