Bharat Bhavan is an autonomous multi-arts complex and museum in Bhopal
The architect of Bhavan is Charles Correa.
Opened in 1982
It houses an art gallery, a fine art workshop, an open-air amphitheatre, a studio theatre, an auditorium, a museum tribal and folk art, libraries of Indian poetry, classical music as well as folk music
Inaugurated by the then Prime Minister of India, Shrimati Indira Gandhi on 13th February 1982
Initiative was taken by Ashok Vajpeyi (IAS)
Established and funded by the Department of Culture, Government of Madhya Pradesh, though it is run by an autonomous a 12-member Bharat Bhavan Trust.
The Bharat Bhavan Biennial of Contemporary Indian Art started in 1986, followed by Bharat Bhavan International Print Biennial in 1989
The complex is most known for its art museum,
Roopankar, which houses a permanent collection of tribal art,
Collected by J. Swaminathan in its early years, and represents the best examples of tribal art in India
The complex includes:
An art gallery of Indian painting and sculpture,
A fine art workshop,
An open-air amphitheatre (Bahirang),
A studio theatre (Abhirang),
An auditorium (Antarang),
A museum tribal and folk art,
Libraries of Indian poetry, classical music as well as folk music

In April 2015, Delhi based Sitar-Sarod Maestros Lakshay Mohan & Aayush Mohan became the first Indians to perform at the Grammy Museum, Los Angeles. The historic concert saw Lakshay & Aayush present some of the oldest Indian classical compositions to the western audience along with their collaboration with American Cellist Barry Phillips.
The Golden Symphony tour brought to India this collaboration along with the unique Sitar-Sarod duet by Lakshay Mohan & Aayush Mohan which has gained an immense following among music lovers all over the nation during the past few years.

Sitar & Sarod maestros, Lakshay Mohan & Aayush Mohan are today acknowledged as one of the most talented younger generation musicians of India. Lakshay & Aayush are the first Indians to be invited to perform at the Grammy Museum, Los Angeles for the opening of the exhibition 'Ravi Shankar : A Life in Music'.After listening to their Jugalbandi at the Ravi Shankar Centre in 2012, Bharat Ratna Pt. Ravi Shankar, on seeing their talent, decided to launch them in the United States under his foundation. Lakshay Mohan & Aayush Mohan has been hailed as one of the most outstanding and talented musicians of the young generations by legends Bharat Ratna Pt. Ravi Shankar and Sangeet Martand Pt. Jasraj. After listening to Lakshay & Aayush at the Ravi Shankar Centre in the year 2012, Pandit Ravi Shankar, on seeing their talent and dedication, decided to launch them for their debut USA tour under his foundation. This tour materialized in 2015 in which Lakshay & Aayush performed at many of the most prestigious music festivals and venues in the USA. Lakshay and Aayush are the first Indians to be invited to perform at The Grammy Museum, Los Angeles for the opening of the exhibition – “Ravi Shankar: A life in music”. This concert featured their collaboration with American cellist Barry Philips.
Lakshay Mohan and Aayush Mohan have been given a strong foundation in the Maihar style of playing by eminent musicians of Maihar Gharana – Padmabhushan Smt. Sharan Rani and Pt. Uma Shankar Mishra. They have also studied under Pt. Balwant Rai Verma, the senior most disciple of Pandit Ravi Shankar. Thereafter they have studied extensively for many years under acclaimed Sarod maestro Pt. Tejendra Narayan Majumdar. Comprehensive training in the intricacies of ‘Dhrupad ang’ (style) from Padmashri Gundecha Brothers has added a new dimension to their music.
Their recent albums include “The Majestic court” by Times Music and “Echoes From the Yellow Land” by Mystica Music.

Abhishek Mishra, an emerging tabla artist from Benaras Gharana belongs to a great renowned family of Pt. Dargahi Mishra ji. He started his initial training from his grandfather Pt. Surendra Mohan Mishra Ji at the age of 3 and gave his first performance at the early age of 4. He has also came under guidance of Pt.Pooran Maharaj Ji and Pt. Kumar Bose Ji. Abhishek was invited as a special guest artist in the TV reality show Zee tv Sa Re Ga Ma Pa at the of 7. Since then he has continued his musical journey of learning and performing. Mr. Abhishek is an A grade artist from All India Radio & Doordarshan.
He has performed Tabla solos and has performed with most of the great artists & the legends in different renowned music festivals and organisations in India and abroad.

who has performed more than two hundred solo stage performance spread across the India and world. She made her debut at young age in distinguished stage during Festival of India in erstwhile USSR organised by Govt. of India in
Moscow. She has performed at almost all prestigious national and international festivals as a solo performer.
She has done her Masters degree in Kathak with Gold medal from Indira Kala Sangeet University Khairagarh C.G. She has got scholarship and received extensive training under Guru Shishya Parampara at Chakradhar Nritya Kendra Bhopal (Govt. of M.P.) by renowned Kathak Guru of Raigarh gharana late Pt. Kartikramji and Pt. Ramlalji .

Ashok Vajpeyi : Loving the Arts - Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi: Amrita Sher-Gil National Art Week
To celebrate the birth centenary year of the legendary Indian Artist Amrita Sher-Gil, Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi organized Amrita Sher-Gil National Art Week from 18th to 24th February 2013.
Designed and conceived by Diwan Manna, artist and Chairman of Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi along with his team of dedicated workers, 19 eminent artists, art critics, art historians, curators, directors of museums, film makers and editors of art journals participated in this unique Art Week.
Participants included stalwarts such as: Anjolie Ela Menon, S. Kalidas, Pushpamala N, Ashok Vajpeyi, Sheba Chhachhi, Kavita Singh, Mithu Sen, Girish Shahane, Navina Sundaram, Dayanita Singh , Anju Dodiya, Sadanand Menon, Tasneem Mehta, Atul Dodiya, Alka Pande, Bhavna Kakar, Roobina Karode, Vivan Sundaram and Nanak Ganguly.

ASHOK VAJPEYI, a Hindi poet-critic, translator, editor and culture-activist, is a major cultural figure of India. With more than 13 books of poetry, 10 of criticism in Hindi and 4 books on art in English to his credit, he is widely recognised as an outstanding promoter of culture and an innovative institution-builder. Over the years he has worked tirelessly to enhance the mutual awareness and interaction between Indian and foreign cultures. A frequent presence at some of the major conferences, seminars and poetry-festivals, he has raised his voice for the autonomy of literature and arts as against contemporary tyrannies of ideologies, markets and fundamentalism. As editor of many prestigious journals he has done much to promote critical awareness of contemporary and classical arts and young talent in poetry and criticism. As an organiser he has more than a thousands events to his credit relating to literature, music, dances, theatre, visual arts, folk and tribal arts, cinema etc. He has been awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award, the Dayawati Kavi Shekhar Samman, Kabir Samman and awarded D.Lit. (honoris causa) by the Central University of Hyderabad.
He has written two large books on the Paris-based Indian master Sayed Haider Raza one on 7 contemporary Indian abstract painters a book on Hindustani classical music. He set up the renowned multi-arts centre Bharat Bhavan in Bhopal; has been the first Vice-Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi International Hindi University (set up by Govt. of India). For more than a year he doubled up as the Director General of the National Museum, New Delhi, the Vice-Chairman National Museum of Man, Bhopal. Until recently has been the Chairman, Lalit Kala Akademi, Ministry of Culture, Govt of India, New Delhi.
A prominent public intellectual of India, he has been a creative global-trotter and visited Europe many times to attend conferences, deliver lectures and give readings. Has been a writer in-residence at Jamia Millia Islamia University and a fellow of K K Birla Foundation. He lives in Delhi after retiring from civil service. He has been decorated by the President of Republic of Poland by the outstanding national award 'The Officer's Cross of Merit of the Republic of Poland' and the French Govt. by the award of 'Officier De L'Ordre Des Arts Et Des Lettres'.
