Dynamic Earth is an interactive science museum in Greater Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. Owned and operated by Science North, Dynamic Earth is an earth sciences museum which builds on the city's mining heritage, focusing principally on geology and mining history exhibitions.
The centre, which opened in 2003, is home to the Big Nickel, one of the city's most famous landmarks.

Part of the Science North interactive museum complex in Sudbury, Ontario, a separate museum called Dynamic Earth includes this teaching tour of hard rock mining for nickel and copper. Located seven stories below the surface, this hard rock mine is a teaching experience and explains the mining methods used to extract nickel and copper from the hard rock of the Sudbury Nickel Basin, by explaining the mining methods of the 1890's, 1950's and the present day.
I personally have been to the bottom of the Creighton Mine, a currently active nickel mine in Sudbury, Ontario and I must say that this tour experience is about as close to real hard rock mining as you are likely to get.

While on the Canadian leg of my TRAIL OF THE DEAD college lecture tour, which took Mary Beth and I to the mining city of Sudbury, nearly everyone we spoke to upon arrival in Sudbury told us that we had to go see THE BIG NICKEL. After asking our driver about the nickel, he decided to immediately give us a tour of what did in fact turn our to be A BIG ******* NICKEL! Great times in Sudbury! THANK YOU CAMBRIAN COLLEGE! We'll be back for sure!!!

DAY 5 OF THE GREAT TRIP NORTH!!! Today we traveled to Sudbury, Ontario to visit the big nickel museum. This happens to be the world's biggest nickel! Aside from this massive nickel, while we were in Sudbury, we went to science north. One of the Ontario science centers. Both the science center and the big nickel were amazing to visit. It was so worth the journey to Sudbury!
