At the time there were 13 Spitfires in the hangar ... more than a wartime squadron! Including the Mk ix Spirit of Kent and many more.

Steve's Spitfire Flight from Biggin Hill to Beachy Head, Sussex, England HD
I was very lucky to fly Spitfire MJ627 from Biggin Hill hangar in October 2018 on a perfect morning. Piloted by Jeremy - and occasionally by me - we flew South over the beautiful patchwork quilt of the Sussex Weald countryside and along the stunning Seven Sisters coastal cliffs to Beachy Head, with a few inversions along the way including a victory roll! The Rolls Royce V-12 27 litre Merlin engine enveloped the plane - and me too. The whole thing was amazing and gave just a small glimpse of what it must have been like for those brave young pilots. Film includes take off, beautiful scenery, aerobatics and landing with a musical backdrop

Background:
The Spitfire was designed by Reginald Mitchell who never lived to see its role in the war. Spitfire MJ627 was built at Castle Bromwich in 1943 and entered service with the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) serving with the RAF. Only two days after entering service, MJ627 destroyed a Messerschmitt Me 109 over Arnhem whilst flown by P/O Sidney Bregman. Beyond its kill, MJ627 has a well-documented wartime history with numerous ground attack, bomber escort and patrol missions being recorded.
In 1950 the plane was converted to a 2 seater. MJ627 now resides at Biggin Hill Heritage hangar where Spitfires and other WW2 planes are restored and maintained. This costs a lot!

Sit in a real Spitfire! Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar
Want a fascinating morning out? At historic Biggin Hill a team of skilled and dedicated engineers are doing something wonderful...and they´ll let you witness it! You get a friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide who will escort you from aircraft to aircraft, regaling you with a heady combination of facts about each individual plane´s combat history, modifications and more. As if that weren´t enough you even get to place a foot upon the wing root, swing yourself up and settle into that hallowed space that is the cockpit of a fully-functional Spitfire. (The cannon don´t work; I checked). There are examples of many different marques and models including a Spit painted as a Fleet Air Arm Seafire (because the Navy painted it on its way to Malta) and you can see craftsmen forming new panels or building tailplanes as you walk around.
Spitfire T9 MJ627 Flight - 14th July 2018 - Biggin Hill Heritage Hanger
My flight in Biggin Hill Heritage Hanger's T9 Spitfire MJ627, a converted LF MkIXc in original RCAF 441 Squadron markings (9G-Q) with Maple Leaf insignia. Amazing experience and massive thanks to all the staff at the Heritage Hanger and to the Pilot Don for the whole day, perfect weather.
The Pilot's Wings I am holding up at one point belong to Battle of Britain pilot Colin W Birch of I Squadron who flew Hurricanes. He is the father of my Uncle Simon and he asked me to take them up for one last time in a Merlin powered aircraft which was an honour to do.
Biggin Hill Festival of Flight 2018: Battle of Britain Tribute
A worthy tribute to the events of the Battle of Britain. Also on the anniversary of what is known as the Hardest day of the Battle. For the tribute there was a lone Buchon attacking the Airfield, a pair of Hurricanes, 8 Spitfires and the Blenheim to represent many areas of the Battle often forgotten such as Coastal and Bomber Command. The Aircraft involved are;

Spitfire T9 Biggin Hill - Beachy Head Lighthouse, low level flight, April 2019
Fly a Spitfire experience: 2-seater Spitfire flight to Beachy Head from Biggin Hill, including some aerobatics and low-level flying before returning to land at Biggin Hill.
Spitfire T9 MJ772 G-AVAV 1943: Steve Hall's hands-on flight from Biggin Hill to Beachy Head and return: I have 270 hrs flight experience and stopped flying a few years ago. I always wanted to fly (own & fly) a Spitfire but It never came to be - until now. Coming of age has few benefits, however, my three Sons treated me to a birthday present unlike any other; 45 minutes in a Spitfire!
The experience is all you can imagine it to be and more. The flight included some hands-on as a part of the experience. My Pilot, Pete Kynsey, was very generous in allowing me around 20 minutes and pretty much left me to it, including return to the field and flying the circuit up to the point of approach. Overcast day with 7/8 cloud, but over 50 K visibility. The video gives a good impression of the flight, which included a low-level pass below cliff height at Beachy Head and some aerobatics including wing-overs and a roll.
Every Pilot needs to have flown a Spitfire at least once.
Special Thanks to: Flight Sponsors: Alexander Hall, James Hall, Eddie Hall & Helen Hall.
Pilot: Pete Kinsey.
