I RODE MY FIRST MOTORCYCLE IN COLOMBIA
#bebold #goforit #solofemaletraveler #faceyourfears
This week I rode on a motorcycle for the first time in my life through the crazy streets of Medellin, Colombia. This is something I have always been too terrified to try but ALWAYS WANTED TO DO!
I think it's just been engrained in my head that motorcycles = accident and possibly death. But since this year I saying YES to my biggest fears, I decided to download one of Colombia's newest and upcoming transportation apps called Picup and go for it.
I took a 25 minute ride from Laureles to Poblado for less than $3.00 USD totally on motorcycle. Oh and I did I mention we took the highway??
It's definitely one of the coolest, most fun and different way to get around Colombia :)
I highly recommend!!
Watch to see how my ride went.

The Best Anti-Theft Backpack Ever
Why:
Saw this on Shark Tank a couple years ago and needed it right away. It's traveled with me to 15+ countries. This bag is indestructible. Literally, you can't even cut it with a machete (the straps & the bag). And comes with a lock so I can tie it to a palm tree before I head into the ocean or to a table when I go to the bathroom in a coffee shop.
Smart Reusable Notebook
Why:
I love writing things down. But I don't like wasting paper. This reusable notebook allows you to have both. And when you're ready to reuse the book, simply take a picture of the pages you want and it automatically stores it on your phone or laptop.
The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F***:
Why:
This is the book that helped guide me go from insecure to secure during a huge transition in my life. I used to care what everyone thought and let that fear rule my life. This was the wakeup call I needed to realize that it was ruining my life and I needed to take charge. I owe a lot to this book!

Day 53 - Bogota - Gold, bikes and art
Teddy visited the gold museum (museo del oro). It was cyclovia because it was Sunday. Also went to flea market, tried some street food- some delicious ( cheese arepa), some not ( orange fruit that tastes like dry bitter potato). Then went to the museum of modern art.

Ride Day 38 Cartagena to Medellin Colombia
Full Post: After a few weeks in Cartagena, it was time to set to off to Medellin, Colombia! I spent the extra time in Cartagena getting my bike ready and spending time with friends. I loved my time in Cartagena, Colombia but I was keen to get me and my motorbike on the road again, and Medellin would be the perfect second stop.
Full Post: While in Cartagena I got a fresh set of wheels and again. I also got a full service and a new rear rim. I had the front tire leak fixed, which was a sealing issue. I chose the Heidenau K60 Scout Tires, these tires were great on the road and offered good grip off-road - until this point.
As I had not been on the road for a while, I took a long days ride and started before first light trekking over 400 miles (668 kilometers), and the ride took me 13.5 hours!
I also realized that the front tire was still leaking, albeit slowly, which was a pain in the butt, so the guys at KTM Cartagena didn't do the job, even though they had the bike for over a week!
I passed through towns on my way to Medellin, such as Sincelejo, Sahagún, Sampués, Tierra Grata, Planeta Rica, Caucasia, Tarazá, Planeta Rica, La Apartada, Santa Rosa de Osos, Don Matías, Bello and onto my final destination in Medellin, Colombia.
Once in greater Medellin, I noticed alarmingly as I got in crazy traffic, that my bike was overheating and my coolant was spewing out and had to pull over for an hour to let the bike cool down.
Why? Becuase the service guys at KTM Cartagena did not put the seal ring back on the coolant tank cap. Crazy!
I also got some new Flip Flops from Samba Sol which does flip flops from countries all over the world!
Medellin, Colombia
Medellín is the capital of Colombia’s mountainous Antioquia province. Nicknamed the “City of Eternal Spring” for its temperate weather, it hosts a famous annual Flower Festival. A modern metro cable links the city to surrounding barrios and offers views of the Aburrá Valley below. Sculptures by Fernando Botero decorate downtown's Botero Plaza, while the Museo de Antioquia displays more of the Colombian artist’s work.
The Charlee Hotel Medellin, Colombia
The Charlee Hotel, Medellin has a fantastic location, with great views, incredible balconies and overall an interesting and unique hotel experience.
Walking distance to nearly everything, including restaurants, cafes, tourist locations, the hotel has everything you would need for a nice short stay.
They need to improve the buffet breakfast, cheeses, and cold meats aren't breakfast, just need a lot greater variety, best to head to a cafe for a nice breakfast instead of their fare.
The beds are super comfortable and the bathrooms roomy and excellent!
Wi-Fi is good with 20 Mbps down and 25 Mbps up with each room having their own connection.
Parking is underneath, reasonably cramped but very secure.

Getsemani Neighborhood, Cartagena, Colombia.
Getsemani has a storied and complicated past. The burgeoning barrio, just outside the fabled walls of Cartagena's historic Old City, was formerly a haven of prostitution and drugs. But the once-seedy neighborhood is now the coolest, most invigorating and authentic, up-and-coming talk of the town. Getsemani is so authentically charming and on the cusp of commercial explosion. Getsemani’s charms take place in public, out on its lively, gritty streets. There are no major museums, cathedrals or other traditional sights to see here. In Getsemani, the neighborhood is the attraction. Sometimes the neighborhood is their studio. Calle San Juan spans just a few hundred feet, but every inch of the crumbling walls that line the street is covered in paintings, collages, graffiti and appliqué, often with a sociopolitical or historic bent.
Representing Africa in Cartagena, Colombia!!! (Raw Footage)
I visited the walled city of Cartagena in May 2019 and was able to witness this powerful dance show by locals.
Cartagena is a beautiful city to discover in Colombia. It is the fifth largest city, and the second oldest city in the country. Located on the Caribbean Coast, the city is one of the cultural centers of the beautiful country of Colombia and represent a lot to the African diaspora in Latin America.

Cartagena, Colombia -1- The Walled City - Enter!
From a strategic defense standpoint, back in the mid-1600's the Spanish began building Fort San Felipe to protect the city from attack by the British. In addition to that they built a Wall around what was the entire city at the time. The 'Wall' encircles the city for several kilometers and in key places is close to the water so they would be able to attack any oncoming troops as they came on shore.
