2015 Calgary - Yellowstone und zurück - Teil 1
2015 Kanada & USA - von Calgary nach Yellowstone und zurück - Teil 1 führt uns beginnend in Calgary über Cochrane am östlichen Rand der Rockys auf den Cowboy Trail. Das erste Ziel ist der Waterton Lakes National Park im südlichen Alberta (an der Grenze zu den USA). Des weiteren durchfahren wir Montana in südlicher Richtung mit Stopps in Great Falls am Missouri, im Fergus Couty am Crystal Lake und in Harlowton. Weitere wesentliche Ziele sind das Little Bighorn National Monument und der Bighorn River Canyon, wo dieser Teil der Reportage endet.
Nanaimo to Newport Beach the story of a World Class EV Cruiser

A few months back, I reviewed an electric bike - a cruiser - from the Electric Bike Company (EBC) - a Californian company that builds custom EV bikes from the ground up.
Since that time, I have had the opportunity to ride Red Dragon Bike countless times, and one of those occasions was (via ferry ride to Vancouver Island), in the harbour town of Nanaimo.
In addition, I went back to the EBC factory in Newport Beach and saw a range of new models that Sean has added to the lineup. Interesting fact: their various models go by the names Model S, Model X, Model Y, Model C. Sound familiar??
The first time I reviewed the Beach Cruiser, I stated that I considered this bike company to be the bike-equivalent of Tesla - the 'Tesla' of bikes. The past 3 months of using the bike every week have simply confirmed that assessment.
This is the Rolls Royce of electric bikes - or, the Tesla of EV bikes if you wish :) . This video covers my excursion to Nanaimo and my second visit to the EBC factory.

Our modern residential facility offers both short- and long-term accommodations for visitors. Interested groups can book Carey Centre's various conference rooms for weeklong events, weekend retreats or private functions.
For visitors wanting to attend a seminar, host an event in one of our four conference rooms or simply explore what the city of Vancouver has to offer, Carey Centre provides year-round accommodations for both long and short trips.
Short Stay: Rooms with either a single or queen-size bed are available. Features and services include: an en-suite bathroom, high-speed internet, local phone, linen service and parking for $6/day. Some units come with a flat screen TV. A studio apartment and 1 bedroom are also available.
Apartment Rentals: Units are available in 1 bedroom, 1 bedroom + den, 2 bedroom and 2 bedroom + den. Furnished units are optional. Features and services include: high-speed internet, local phone, cable, and utilities. Parking is additional.

Van Life - Young Woman Living in a Van as Full-Time Tiny Home
Clarissa has been living full-time in her retro 80's camper van for 2 years and she's giving us a full tour of her van, and telling us what she loves and struggles with while living in such a small, mobile home.

Clarissa is currently living in a 1983 Dodge Ram Roadtrek II that she bought for $5,000 CAD.
It has a propane furnace, stovetop and fridge, and she has an auxiliary battery that powers her lights, furnace fan, and water pump. There's also a porta potti toilet in the closet but there is no shower on board.
After a few months of traveling in her van across Canada, Clarissa had to settle down in one place to get a job and so she's currently working two jobs on the West Coast of Canada and she travels on weekends and whenever she has some extra free time.
While living in a van isn't currently helping her save money because she eats out & goes out quite a bit, she admits that it would be easy to do for someone who has that kind of goal.

Then we make our way to the stunning Bay of Islands after a brief overnight stay in the lovely accommodations of our 4 door SUV rental. *Tip: don’t do this. At least if you’re over 30, wait… 25. No, don’t do this.
Marc had a small mishap while playing king of the mountain with the boys and possibly fractured his collar bone. Air BnB life has been a fun change of pace, but it’s not for us. We like the freedom and flexibility of traveling in an RV. At the end of this episode, we pick up our Class C from which has already proven to be the best way to see New Zealand.

Gairloch Prince Edward Island Mountain Biking
On May 12th, 2014 three of us hit the road to eastern Prince Edward Island to ride one of the newer single track MTB trails. I was on my 2012 (and a half) Opus Avro 29er, Matt was riding his Opus Fhast 29er and Nicole was ripping along on her Scott.
On a punchy climb somewhere in the last third of the 6.5km loop I lost traction and rolled back into a tree. We week later, I'm still using 4x6 inch MePore Pro bandages. Probably should have had a doctor stitch that up.

Here's the thing. I moved from Vancouver, Canada, to Tokyo, Japan. In Canada, I used to make more money, yet my quality of life is somehow better across the Pacific ocean. This is largely in part due to the cost of living being cheaper for my family. How could this be, in one of the most expensive cities in the world?
