Hi Guys! We just landed in San Cristobal and in this video, we wanted to show you the beautiful canyon of Sumidero which a quick bike ride away from San Cristobal de Las Casas.
Sumidero Canyon is one of the natural wonders of the state of Chiapas, with steep cliffs on either side and a lot of different wildlife to explore. Definitely worth the trip!
San Cristobal de Las Casas is a small town in the southern state of Chiapas in Mexico. It's an old colonial town and has beautiful architecture and because of its location near the Mexican jungles has a lot of natural wonders too.
We are going to be spending 3 weeks here and we're very excited to explore what the state of Chiapas has to offer.
San Cristobal has also become quite a town for hipsters and digital nomads and therefore there are a ton of pretty cafes, coffee shops, vegan food places, and yoga classes.
A few of the best things to in San Cristobal as soon as you arrive is to just soak in the culture in the historic center of town, enjoy the colonial style architecture, drink some incredible and eat some delicious local Mayan chocolate!
There are incredible things to explore in the Chiapas state such as:
1. the culture of the Mayan civilization
2. the waterfalls
3. the historic ruins in Palenque
4. the natural wonders like Agua Azul, Las Nubes, Misol Ha

For my last week in Mexico we went on a big road trip in Chiapas for more than a week. Starting in Tuxtla we explored a number of beautiful sights and things to do in Chiapas which can hardly be found in guides. Of course we also wanted to visit popular sights such as Palenque but we managed to make our way down along the border to Guatemala to see the beautiful jungle and the maya sights of Bonampak & Yaxchilan which are harder to access.
You can take this video as a guide but please be aware to take some precaution and do your own research about road conditions / road blocks etc. before you go. Please make sure to avoid driving at night and plan your travel schedule accordingly!

How SAFE Is Biking In Mexico?
This is a good question that people ask me from time to time. Most places are safe if you use a little common sense. The city is constantly opening individual lanes specifically designed for cycling, and just be cool on the road, and people will be cool with you.

Road to Palenque | Mexico
I've been riding my Suzuki DR 650 here in Mexico S L O W L Y heading to Guatemala for the last 5 months. As My time here in MX begins to draw to a close I thought I would show a little of the realities that exist on the road here in Southern Mexico. The reality is that the road conditions here are vastly different that they are in my home country of the USA. Back home I would ride day or night, rain or shine...I never gave two thoughts about where I was heading and at what time. Here these are considerations you need to be thinking about ALL THE TIME. For instance, I do my very best not to ride at night. I'm not talking about riding across town. I'm talking about making sure that I'll arrive at my destination prior to the sun setting. Once that sun sets you may start to feel the anticipation about your arrival. With a full days riding under your belt your reaction time is slightly delayed. Fact is the roads around dusk are the most dangerous. A few of the most common issues I have is smoke from people burning trash, kids playing in the road, animals, people driving while intoxicated, road obstructions that are difficult to see, here in MX the TOPES that you are unaware of until you are thrown in the air...these are just a few. But I wouldnt be able to live with myself if something horrible where to happen and say I hit a child...for those reasons and many many many more...riding at night is off limits. Just one of the keys to success I've adopted over my time riding the world :)
Oaxaca and Chiapas are two of the most economically challenged states in Mexico and continue to fight against the changes brought upon by the federal government. In small cities in many areas of the country they stage road blocks and marches to bring attention to their plight. 99% of the time these road blocks and demonstrations remain peaceful. There are times however when they become violent. I dont fear the conditions on the road because I am not a target. In truth most are not. What you have is people pushed to the very edge...and when you push people to these extremes they are forced to do things they would never do other wise. I encourage you to read these links to see some truth about what has been transpiring here in Southern MX. Even though there is some struggle and hardship there is SO much good! Thats just my experience after 5 months in MX.

Agua Azul Waterfalls: one of Mexico's water Wonder
Support us on Patreon
In this episode, we will show you another MExico's water wonder: Agua Azul waterfalls.
Mexico's southernmost state of Chiapas boasts immense biodiversity and a climate that ranges from fresh and cool in the highlands to humid and hot in the jungle lowlands.
Close to the Lacandon jungle and the Usumacinta River, which divides Mexico and Guatemala, dozens of waterfalls dot the landscape. One of the most majestic of these falls has to be Agua Azul.
The Agua Azul waterfalls are located roughly 40 miles from Palenque and 80 miles from San Cristobal de las Casas in the state of Chiapas, southern Mexico.
The waterfalls get their name, Agua Azul, meaning Blue Water, perhaps rather obviously because the water thundering down it has a bright blue hue. Their incredible color is, in fact, because the high mineral content of the water, which deposits itself on the rock.
The limestone-rich deposits also give the waterfall an interesting, undulating shape.
The power of nature is clearly visible by the trees clinging to the banks by just their roots at a 90-degree angle. The farther up you get the more you can enjoy the falls away from the hustle and bustle of people and market stalls.
Enjoy the ride with us!
