The Birth of the New World (colloquially known as La Estatua de Colón, literally meaning The Statue of Columbus) is a 360 foot (110 m) bronze sculpture located on the Atlantic coastline of Arecibo, Puerto Rico. When completed in 2016, it became the tallest sculpture in North America,[citation needed] surpassing Mexico's Guerrero Chimalli, which measures 200 feet (61 m) including its base.

268 ft. (81, 68 meter) monument from 2,750 pieces of bronze and steel manufactured in Russia and some 2,000 sq. ft. (185.80 sq. meters) of copper sheets. The statue, entitled 'Birth of a New World,' and weighing in at 6,500 tons, is almost twice the height of New York's Statue of Liberty without its base, and is double the height of Rio's Christ the Redeemer.
It took 110,000 hours to assemble. The monuments were commissioned to celebrate the 500th anniversary of Columbus's America’s voyage.

También conocida como “La estatua de Cristóbal Colón”, “Nacimiento de un Nuevo Mundo” es la estatua de mayor altura en Puerto Rico, el Caribe y todo el hemisferio. Se compone de 2,750 piezas de bronce, construida en 1991 por el escultor de origen georgiano-ruso Zurab Tsereteli (1934) para conmemorar los 500 años del primer viaje de Cristobal Colón al Nuevo Mundo. Luego de que no se pudiera levantar la escultura en diversas localidades de Estados Unidos y Puerto Rico, finalmente fue construida en el Barrio Islote de Arecibo, cuando el empresario José González Freyre cediera unos terrenos para su instalación

What?! A Statue of Christopher Columbus?
In Puerto Rico, in the city of Arecibo, about 45 miles west of San Juan, there is a huge statue of Christopher Columbus. Designed by Georgian sculpture, Zurab Tsereteli, this statue named Birth of a New World stands 360 feet tall (110 meters), which is taller than the Statue of Liberty! The statue is made of bronze and is basically in the middle of nowhere. Tsereteli also designed the statue of Peter the Great.
Originally, this statue was offered to cities of Columbus, Baltimore, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, and New York City. All those cities rejected it because of its size and/or because of the controversial view that Columbus represents someone who opened the door to the Spanish genocide of indigenous people.
