THE GLOWING BIO BAY IN VIEQUES PUERTO RICO
Mosquito Bay or Bio Bay in Vieques, Puerto Rico is an amazing place. It is the brightest glowing bioluminescent bay in the world. I jumped on a few kayak tours during the night of a new moon and saw this incredible light show.
Honestly, it was more amazing that I imagined. I had read a review or two, but wasn't sure if it was worth the trip to the island. It was. The bay is extremely bright, and until now, it was very hard to capture on camera. I recently picked up a Sony a7s which is a beast in low light, and was impressed with that it could capture. This has rarely ever been caught on Camera.
The government is doing a good job at keeping this place pristine. In some areas of the world you can jump in, splash around, use gasoline engines, and generally just destroy the ecosystem these little guys live in. Here in Vieques, Puerto Rico, you are not allowed to swim, or use gasoline. Nearby light pollution has to be kept to a minimum, and there give Bio Bay some days off now and again to recover. This is probably why it remains the brightest in the world. High Five for sustainable eco tourism. I wish everywhere was this forward thinking.
This was one of my best travel experiences. Like I said, it's worth the trip!

BEST BEACH IN PUERTO RICO | Icacos Island
The Best Beach In Puerto Rico
We escaped the hotel and took a catamaran tour to explore the Icacos Islands. Beautiful white sand beaches, green palm trees and crystal clear water awaited us. We can't even explain how amazing this day was. The video barely does it justice. If you are ever visiting #PuertoRico, we HIGHLY suggest a day on the catamaran with TravelerPR.com. We can't wait to go back and do the sunset ride!

Visit to Isla Vieques, Puerto Rico - June 2009
A 2-day trip to the unspoiled Caribbean island of Vieques, Puerto Rico, for an evening kayak adventure to the bio-bay, and trips to Playa Negrita and Playa de la Chiva (Blue Beach).
Vieques, one of the two Spanish Virgin Islands (the other being Puerto Rico's Isla Culebra), is a special place of dozens of deserted white-sand beaches, one special black sand beach, 100s of horses roaming free and not one single corporate chain to speak of.

The Puerto Rican Islands: Culebra, Vieques and Bioluminescent Bay
My trip to Puerto Rico was nothing short of amazing; it was better than I ever imagined. Isla Culebra was the most beautiful Caribbean destination that I have ever experienced. Flamenco Beach was a must see when traveling to Puerto Rico! Enjoy!

Vieques is a Caribbean island off Puerto Rico's eastern coast. It's known for boat tours of Bioluminescent Bay (or Mosquito Bay), where microorganisms give the water a blue-green glow. It also offers secluded beaches and snorkeling. Wild horses roam the countryside, much of which is preserved as the Vieques National Wildlife Refuge. The Fuerte de Vieques is a mid-19th-century Spanish fort and museum.

Vieques Bioluminiscent Bay, Island Flyer, Vieques, P.R.
Hidden along the Caribbean coast is one of the most spectacular Bioluminescent Bays in the world. The mysterious blue-green light is created by micro-organisms which thrive in an environment uniquely suited to their needs. A trip into the bay on a balmy night is a magical experience. Fish flash by in dark water like floating stardust.
Island Adventures Bio bay Tours offers nightly excursions aboard an electrically powered double-pontoon boat through the amazing waters of Puerto Mosquito in Vieques Island. The bilingual guides explain the fragile ecology of the plants and animals of the bay, give interpretive star lectures, and then park the boat in an area of high bioluminescent concentration.
Remember to bring cash for souvenirs and gratuities at the restaurant. (Piña Coladas and snacks are served onboard power catamaran)
This is truly a magical place, and thanks to the pristine, non polluted environs and the ethereal glow of trillions of micro-organisms, you are there to witness and appreciate the astounding beauty of an undisturbed Caribbean Wonderland. East Island Excursions invite you to join the privileged few that have been to this special place. We depart from the marina Puerto Del Rey, Fajardo and return to Puerto Rico the same night.

Vieques Adventures - Exploring the Red Mangroves by Kayak
Today we took the kayaks and our fishing poles to explore some of the mangrove tunnels and channels along the bioluminescent bay, Puerto Ferro, on Vieques Island.
The root system of the red mangroves supports an incredible number of species and its biodiversity is rivaled only by the nearby coral reefs.
