Out with Uber: Bogota cab drivers protest ride sharing service
It’s the world’s most popular car service, and used in more than 100 countries. Although Uber is illegal in Colombia, the company is still operating – and thriving. Now taxi drivers are rallying against the ride-sharing giant. CGTN’s Michelle Begue has the story from Bogota.
Steam in Colombia - Bogotá 2015
Very little of the Colombian Railways is left nowadays. Fortunately one survives, in the form of a tourist operation taking people (mostly locals) from the Sabana station in Bogotá to the Salt Cathedral in Zaquapira. Four steam locomotives are serviceable and were steamed especially for us. Most of this video was made along the former North-Eastern Railway up to the small city of Gachancipa. A good part of this line is no longer in use nowadays. A tour by Railway Touring Company. See also:

Colombia: Emergency services on scene after explosion in Bogota shopping mall
At least three people were killed and 11 more injured in Bogota, Saturday, after an explosion rocked Andino shopping centre in the Zona Rosa neighbourhood of the Colombian capital.
According to reports, an explosion went off inside ladies bathroom located on the second floor of the mall.
Bogota’s Mayor Enrique Penalosa described the incident on Twitter as a “cowardly terrorist attack”. However, other authorities did not immediately confirm whether the shopping mall had been bombed or if the explosion was due to an accident.

COLOMBIA: BOGOTA: REACTION TO BOMB BLAST
Spanish/Nat
Hours after a car bomb killed eight people in a wealthy part of Bogota - evoking fears of a renewed narco-terrorist campaign - Colombian President Andres Pastrana has sent a firm message to the attack's suspected culprits.
Pastrana has authorised the extradition to the United States of three accused drug traffickers.
His move comes eight years after the Colombian government banned such extraditions, capitulating to a series of anti-extradition terrorist attacks that killed hundreds.
The Colombian government has made it clear it's not backing down this time.
Just hours after a bomb killed eight people and injured 45 in Bogota, Colombian President Andres Pastrana signed decrees clearing the way for three accused drug traffickers to stand trial in the United States.
Justice Minister Romulo Gonzalez said it was still too early to blame narco-terrorism for Thursday's blast, but added that the government would not be intimidated.
SOUNDBITE: (Spanish)
If we prove that it was an attack by the narco-traffickers, I repeat, neither the government nor the civilians will be intimidated. And we will live up to the words of the President of the Republic, by which all drug traffickers will be extradited
SUPER CAPTION: Colombian President Andres Pastrana
Although no one has claimed responsibility for the attack yet, many fear it was linked to the renewal of extraditions.
The carnage was the worst in the Colombian capital since 1993, when the nearly decade-long wave of terror by the Medellin cocaine cartel ended with the death of its leader, Pablo Escobar.
The 70-kilogramme (150-pound) bomb dug a three-foot crater beside a wide avenue in a wealthy part of Bogota and blew out the windows of banks, stores and apartment buildings as much as a quarter-mile away.
The extradition process was reinstated in 1997 after intense U-S pressure and the capture of the entire leadership of the Cali cartel, the Medellin cartel's successor.
However, U-S Ambassador Curtis Kamman has said Washington had not yet formally requested the extradition of 30 men accused of drug trafficking the U-S.
SOUNDBITE: (Spanish)
Your question implies there is a relation between the bomb and the extraditions. I hope it's not the case but we don't know yet. Obviously any terrorist action is terrible for all and we condemn these kind of actions.
SUPERCAPTION: US Ambassador to Colombia, Curtis Kamman
In a bid to improve relations with the U-S, Colombia is showing its intention to dispatch the alleged drug traffickers to the United States to stand trial.
This week, the Supreme Court approved the extraditions of three men; Colombian Jaime Orlando Lara, Venezuelan citizen Fernando Jose Florez and a Cuban, Sergio Gonzalez.
Lara, seen here after his arrest in December 1998, would be the first Colombian extradited since 1990, although the government has not specify when the three suspects would be flown to the U-S for trial.
Florez, known as El Gordo - the fat one - is one of South America's most wanted drug smugglers.
He spent most of his time in Colombia working with the Cali drug cartel.
Thirty of the suspects Pastrana has promised to extradite were snared last October in raids dubbed 'Operation Millennium.'
Law officers called the sweep the biggest blow to drug trafficking in the world's number one cocaine exporting nation since the Cali cartel's demise.
And the authorities pledge their war against narco-trafficking will continue.
SOUNDBITE: (Spanish)
SUPER CAPTION: General Argemiro Serna, Bogota's Metropolitan Police Chief
Senior Colombian police officials said the attack's organisers could be a mix of outlaw groups.

COLOMBIA: BOGOTA: REMOTE CONTROL BOMB BLAST KILLS 8 POLICE OFFICERS
Spanish/Nat
Eight Police officers have been killed and 10 injured in a remote control bomb blast in the Colombian capital Bogota.
The device exploded inside a truck as it was being searched at one of the city's police stations on Tuesday.
Seven of the eight officers killed in the bomb blast died on the spot.
Witnesses report seeing body parts strewn across the police station's parking lot.
The eighth officer to die was taken to a nearby hospital suffering from serious burns and injuries to arms and legs.
The truck's driver had been detained by police and had refused to identify himself.
SOUNDBITE: (Spanish)
SUPER CAPTION: Police officer at scene.
The blast occurred as officers were searching the back of the truck that had been seized about 10 miles (almost 17 kilometres) west of the capital.
Authorities say police were unloading a vehicle they thought was carrying contraband merchandise.
Senior officers believe the explosion was triggered by remote control.
No one has claimed responsibility and police are not saying if any particular group is suspected.
The blast is Colombia's most deadly explosion since a car bomb in February killed seven people, including four police officers, in the violence-plagued northern town of Apartado.
Authorities blamed that blast on rebels of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, the nation's largest and oldest rebel group.
Tuesday's explosion came just two days after the rebel group released 70 soldiers it had captured in combat; most of them had been held for more than nine months following the military's most humiliating defeat in more than three decades of low-level conflict.
