New Face of Lake Charles: Bord du Lac Marina and Lakefront Promenade
RLMV showing off new features in downtown Lake Charles (Sept 2010).
I originally made this to show my friends who used to live here what's been going on in the city since they left.
The marina is a transient floating dock with 42 boat slips. Utilities for power and water are available to tenants who can stay up to 3 nights (5 with special permission). The floating docks protect it from storm surge.
The promenade is an extension of the Boardwalk that runs from the PPG fountain region to almost the intersection of Bord du Lac Dr and Clarence St. In various locations there are power stations set up to accommodate for vendors.

National Kids to Parks Day
CITIES MOBILIZE FOR NATIONAL KIDS TO PARKS DAY
Lake Charles, Louisiana Signs On for May 18 Nationwide Park Celebration
(Lake Charles, LA, May 9, 2013) - Hundreds of thousands of children nationwide, including here in Lake Charles, LA, will take part in a grassroots movement to discover America's parks through play on Saturday, May 18, to commemorate National Park Trust's (NPT) third annual National Kids to Parks Day.
Mayor Randy Roach joins mayors across the country who have signed official proclamations declaring May 18 National Kids to Parks Day. He encourages locals to participate by exploring Millennium Park and other public parks within the city.
NPT is working with numerous cities and towns affiliated with First Lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move Cities and Towns program, which is designed to encourage mayors and elected officials to adopt policies and programs that create systemic changes, reducing childhood obesity. Like the City of Lake Charles, other cities across the nation are committing to a simple motto: active kids are healthy kids.
The City of Lake Charles website now encourages residents to visit kidstoparks.org and sign up so that local families can be counted in the national tally. Then, on May 18, families are
encouraged to visit a park or recreation area and submit photos of their adventures to Buddy@BuddyBison.org for possible inclusion in NPT's national map commemorating the day.
The City of Lake Charles is committed to healthy living, and our wonderful parks and recreation areas, like Millennium Park and other parks throughout the city, provide excellent spaces for outdoor play. I invite all Lake Charles residents to join me outdoors on May 18 for National Kids to Parks Day, said Mayor Roach.
A special commemorative day is being planned from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Millennium Park, Bord Du Lac Drive. Special activities will include: Harlem Shake, face painting, balloons, fun jumps, Gumbeaux Gator, aqua duck race, trike race, train rides, chicken run, Hula Hoop contest, bowling, hot potato, splash dance, and a live DJ. Everyone is invited to this and all other City of Lake Charles parks and outdoor spaces.
ABOUT NATIONAL PARK TRUST
National Park Trust is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving parks today and creating park stewards for tomorrow. As people spend more time indoors and as successive generations grow up with less of a connection to nature, NPT wants to build a greater awareness and appreciation for the importance of our country's public lands and parks. Lake Wister State Park | Oklahoma State Parks | Best RV Destinations
I decided to post a shorter version of my Lake Wister State Park video for those viewers that would say no thanks to a video over 30 minutes long. This is the edited video that documents our stay at Lake Wister State Park during the Labor Day Weekend of 2018. I have since split the original video up in to three shorter videos but if you would like to see them all together then you can still find the longer version on our channel!
Check out our trip to Lake Wister State Park in Oklahoma! If you love to travel in your RV you don’t want to miss this tour showcasing one of the best RV destinations in Oklahoma and more! The park is located in Eastern Oklahoma at the foothills of the Ouachita National forest near Wister, Oklahoma—you will find it nestled within the forest on the shores of Wister Lake. My wife and I were looking for a quiet getaway for Labor Day weekend that wasn’t too far away from our home in East Texas. We found Lake Wister (which was only a little over 4 hours) and decided to give it a try. We didn’t go without doing a little bit of research first, but we were happy to find a park that was much more charming in person than the videos and pictures that we found online.
I want to thank you for watching this video. If you are an RV enthusiast like we are—there is no shortage of great YouTube channels out there with wonderful and interesting content—I’m very honored that you found my video and decided to watch and I hope to share some more adventures with you in the future!
We welcome any comments that you may have and please like and subscribe!

Walk With Your Mayor 2014
As part of the Dare to be Healthy Challenge Grant, made possible by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation, and in support of the Partnership for a Healthier Southwest Louisiana, on Saturday, March 15, the City of Lake Charles will participate in the City Challenge -- Start Walking Calcasieu!
There are two ways participants can get involved. They can go online to take the Pledge to walk and move more -- fill out the online pledge at -- or go to the March 15 walk.
Participants can register at the walk beginning at 7:30 a.m. at the south end of the Lake Charles Civic Center Promenade -- across from Millennium Park -- at the corner of Bord Du Lac Drive and Lakeshore Drive. The Walk With Your Mayor will begin at 8 a.m. at the south end of the Promenade, continue northward to the PPG Fountain, and back.
Why join the Challenge and walk? Louisiana currently has one of the highest rates of obesity in the nation at 34.7 percent. Walking has the lowest dropout rate of any exercise and can help in the following ways: manage weight; improve mood and help ease depression; boost your immune system; maintain mental efficiency; strengthen your heart, lungs, and muscles; lower blood pressure and improve cholesterol levels; prevent osteoporosis; and improve energy and endurance.
Each of the six Calcasieu Parish mayors will host walks in their respective cities and lead efforts to get their community moving. All the cities will be competing to get the most residents to participate in the initiative. The city with the largest participation will be awarded with a traveling prize. The winning city will be determined based on city population/largest percentage of participation in pledges to walk or those who sign in the morning of the walk.
All residents are encouraged to get involved and join in the mission to reshape Calcasieu Parish by moving more, eating healthier and making better choices.
Lake Charles Historic Tour App
The Charpentier Historic District has been brought to life with the new Lake Charles Historic Tour App. The free app can be downloaded in multiple languages including English, French, Spanish, German and closed-captioning for the hearing challenged. It will give visitors a guided experience through the 40-block area on the National Register of Historic Places.
Whether you drive, take a carriage ride or walk, the new Lake Charles Historic Tour app will give you turn-by-turn directions through the Charpentier (French for carpenter) Historic District in downtown Lake Charles that pays homage to the carpenter-architects who freely designed as they built, creating a unique Lake Charles style. Users can choose a 30 Minute Tour, One Hour tour or Calcasieu Ghost Tour.
There are also videos on the Great Fire of 1910, Ghost Stories and Legends, Lake Charles Architecture and the History of Lake Charles. The app promotes social network sharing and even allows the user to create a post card from the district.
The CVB worked with BarZ Adventures and Adley Cormier with the Calcasieu Historical Preservation Society on the app content. Many photos used were from McNeese State University, the Louisiana Digital Library, the Imperial Calcasieu Museum and the CVB.
Download the app in your app store by searching for “Lake Charles Historic Tour.”

Pointe-Claire: Loader driver rescued from Lake St-Louis icy water 1-6-2018
Like and send your video: facebook.com/the4kguy
At 5h30 pm last night a city worker was rescued by SIM fire and rescue crews after his small front end loader broke the ice and sunk half way into the frigid waters. The dramatic rescue unfolded at the boat ramp at the end of Cartier Ave, south of Chemin du Bord-du-Lac in the Pointe-Claire borough of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It is believed that the driver of the snow-plowing vehicle was clearing snow off of the boat ramp at Bourgeau Park. The patient initially self-extricated from the driver cabin to take shelter on the roof of the small vehicle. At least 15 long minutes lasted between the moment the 911 call was placed and the moment he was rescued. During that time, he remained exposed to winds and extremely cold temperatures measured at about -20C (-4F) reaching under -30C (-22F) with windchill. Footage in the early parts of this video shows the victim trapped on the roof of the cabin trying to cover himself with what seems to be a blanket floating in the wind. With every minute counting, ice rescue crews and firemen used the ladder of a firetruck to pull and bring him back to shore. The man was assessed inside an awaiting ambulance and showed signs of hypothermia. He luckily didn't suffer any other injury and was later transported to a local area hospital for prevention where he is expected to make a full recovery.
