Brasilia, A Realized Utopia. Video Guide To The Capital Of Brazil ???????? Travel & Discover
Brasilia, a capital created ex nihilo in the centre of the country in 1956, was a landmark in the history of town planning. Urban planner Lucio Costa and architect Oscar Niemeyer intended that every element – from the layout of the residential and administrative districts (often compared to the shape of a bird in flight) to the symmetry of the buildings themselves – should be in harmony with the city’s overall design. The official buildings, in particular, are innovative and imaginative.

Power Place in Brasilia
The Temple of Good Will (TGW) welcomes pilgrims from all over the world as an interfaith center for love, understanding, meditation, religion and spirituality. The building in the form of a pyramid contains a walk-path and has a huge crystal on the top. You walk on the black stone plates in spiral form towards the centre where you can meditate and feel the energy of the crystal on top of you. On the way out of the you walk on the light colored stones, signifying the transformation from darkness to light that happened in the center. The TGW is a very special power place, situated in the suburbs of Brasilia, capital of Brazil.

Dating to 1960 and produced by the Standard Oil Company, Tangent Films, Robert W. Schofield and Leona Carney, this profile of the new city of Brasilia shows the construction of Brazil's City of Hope. The film celebrates architect Oscar Niemeyer and planner Lúcio Costa. At 2:00 the Congressional Center skyscrapers are shown along with House and Senate chambers. At 2:21 the Supreme Court building and at 2:43 the Museum of Brazil is shown. At 2:58 are the 11 ministries for the administration of the government. At 3:30 the Presidential home Alvarado Palace. At 4:42 superblocks (self contained urban blocks for housing and commerce) are shown. Other sights include a church (5:48), the Inauguration Day festivities (6:30 and following) including President Kubitschek arriving in the new city, sites of new embassies (8:50), and the airport (9:17). At 9:25 petroleum, which is of course the business of Standard Oil, is mentioned as crucial to the city's success. At 9:51 highway networks are shown being built with the city declared a motorist's dream. At 10:30 a temporary Brasilia is shown which includes new businesses to support a growing economy. At 11:00 construction by hand and with machines is shown. At 12:26 a huge form is shown for construction of one of Neimeyer's modern buildings.
In 1955 Juscelino Kubitschek was elected president of Brazil. In 1956 he initiated the planning and construction of the new capital. In 1957 an international jury selected Lúcio Costa's plan to guide the construction of Brazil’s new capital, Brasília. Costa's plan was not as detailed as some of the plans presented by other architects and city planners. It did not include land use schedules, models, population charts or mechanical drawings, however, it was chosen by five out of six jurors because it had the features required to align the growth of a capital city. Costa used a cross-axial design indicating the possession and conquest of this new place with a cross often described by some as a dragonfly, an airplane or a bird. Costa's plan included two principal components, the Monumental Axis (east to west) and the Residential Axis (north to south).
The Monumental Axis was assigned political and administrative activities and is considered the body of the city with the style and simplicity of its buildings, oversized scales, and broad vistas and heights, producing the idea of Monumentality. This axis includes the various ministries, national congress, presidential palace, supreme court building and the television and radio tower.
Building Brasília was part of Juscelino's fifty years of prosperity in five plan. Already in 1892, the astronomer Louis Cruls, in the service of the Brazilian government, had investigated the site for the future capital. Lúcio Costa won a contest and was the main urban planner in 1957, with 5550 people competing. Oscar Niemeyer was the chief architect of most public buildings, Joaquim Cardozo was the structural engineer, and Roberto Burle Marx was the landscape designer. Brasília was built in 41 months, from 1956 to April 21, 1960, when it was officially inaugurated.
Brasília is the federal capital of Brazil and seat of government of the Federal District. The city is located atop the Brazilian highlands in the country's center-western region. It was founded on April 21, 1960, to serve as the new national capital. Brasília was planned and developed by Lúcio Costa, Oscar Niemeyer and Joaquim Cardozo in 1956 to move the capital from Rio de Janeiro to a more central location. The landscape architect was Roberto Burle Marx. The city's design divides it into numbered blocks as well as sectors for specified activities, such as the Hotel Sector, the Banking Sector and the Embassy Sector. Brasília was chosen as a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its modernist architecture and uniquely artistic urban planning. It has also been named City of Design by UNESCO in October 2017 and has been part of the Creative Cities Network since then.
All three branches of Brazil's federal government are centered in the city: executive, legislative, and judiciary. Brasília also hosts 124 foreign embassies.

After crossing the CLS 102 district in the southern commercial district, I took the N1 road and headed to the center of the city as a math problem. Brasilia, with its symmetry and anti-war, is the only city built in the 20th century and was listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. If you turn your gaze for a moment in the beautiful National Assembly, you will pass through the low and dark passages of the cathedral, where the pillars straight up on the pond of the Ministry of Foreign affairs tear the air and tie the rice straw together without any error, The blue sky of Brasilia covers me. Three hundred kilograms of angels fly in stained glass, not the Bible verse, and the sky seems to reach out to the brighter chapel. All of this started from a dream to connect people and the sky. When this cathedral was first made, there was no such stained glass. It was just transparent glass. However, due to the dry and hot weather in Brasilia, architect Oscar Niemeyer installed this stained glass. Thanks to this, citizens can stay in cool shadows like now. It would have been a sky to look up at for those who had to live a new life in a strange place where no one else had experienced it. I used to pray that young people would pray for work in the cathedral and bless the new life in Brasilia. Brasilia Cathedral is not only a beautiful building but also a place to give me faith and hope. Good luck to you too. welcome.

Bem-vindo.

Brazil's Capital, Brasilia - IT'S SHAPED LIKE AN AIRPLANE!!! -
During our travels around South America back in 2017, we managed to get to Brazil's capital city, Brasilia, and what a strange place!
This city in the centre of the country was designed to look like an airplane when viewed from the sky, and many of the buildings have crazy Soviet-style architecture, which makes it unlike any other place on the continent.
We only had one day in Brasilia, but we're glad we had the opportunity to hang out in this weird city. If you're looking for the highlights of the best things to do in Brasilia in one day, this is the video for you!
This is old footage we shot in 2017 on a Sony A6300 during our trip around Brazil with Dragoman.

The University was inaugurated on April 21, 1962, based on a project by the educator Anísio Teixeira and the anthropologist Darcy Ribeiro, who became his first chancellor. By 2004, it had 1,297 teachers and 2,278 employees, as well as more than 20,000 students. Each semester, the University of Brasilia admits about 2,000 students for its 61 undergraduate programs. At the postgraduate level, the University offers 49 masters and 27 doctorates. It has 22 institutes; 50 departments; 16 scientific, technological, cultural, artistic and general service centers; residences for students and staff; a university hospital; a sports center; a seismic observatory; various facilities for physical experiments; an animal research laboratory; a library with a huge archive; a restaurant for students; a farm for ecological, agricultural and forestry research; and an ecological station. Likewise, the construction of a technology park is planned.
The UnB recently opened a new campus in Planaltina (satellite city of Brasilia), where it teaches new and different courses than those available on the main campus, such as the bachelor's degree in Agribusiness Management and the degree in Natural Sciences. In addition to this new campus, the University has invested in expanding the existing infrastructure on the Pilot Plan campus. Thus, it has transferred departments such as Biology, Chemistry and Administration, as well as the Event Selection and Promotion Center (CESPE) to new buildings built throughout the campus.

BRASÍLIA: A Quadra Modelo - 308 Sul | TESOUROS DO BRASIL

Brazil's Space-Age Moon Capitol
You should click here now to subscribe to Motherboard on Youtube:
Oscar Niemeyer is the man who created Brazil's crazy space-age moon-capital. In the 1950s, Brazil decided it would be a perfectly reasonable idea to move the capital to the center of the country's interior plateau (read: nowhere). To facilitate this sensible endeavor they enlisted Oscar Niemeyer -- an ardent communist and proponent of modern architecture who, alongside his buddy Le Corbusier, had co-designed the UN building in New York -- to build a crazy spacepod city in the middle of the planalto. Brasilia provided Niemeyer the perfect template to test out all the theoretical business he and his modernist colleagues had been cooking up for the past two decades. Together with urban planner Luis Costa, he designed a functionally integrated city full of massive concrete mushroom buildings and swooping aluminum spires and twisty overpasses and skyways and symbolic edifices and designated sectors where no one would ever have to watch out for traffic or wait at a stoplight. It's basically the bastard child of Alphaville and Albany, NY, and to this day remains a benchmark in what we really hope the future is going to look like. It also sealed his reputation as one of the century's most influential architects and certainly its most inlfuential Brazilian. Then an anti-communist military junta seized control of the country and kicked him out.

Brasilia - capital of Brazil - Part 2
Brasilia is an unique capital because it was founded just half a century ago, and it was built from scratch where there was nothing but the wild. It's the design of the famous brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer, who designed a modern city with a socialist theme, and that is in the shape of an airplane. There are sectors for everything: housing, public buildings, hotels, banks, shops, etc. And the trees from this amazingly green and residential city are fruit-trees such as jackfruit, mangoes, avocados, tangerines, caju-trees, pitangas, among others.
Here we see the National Museum of Art, the National Library, the Ministries, the Parliament,...

In the “cockpit” is Praça dos Três Poderes, named for the 3 branches of government surrounding it.The iconic Congreso Nacional features 2 domed chambers split by twin towers. Weather and Events:
The climate is hot year-round, with both a wet (Oct–Mar) and dry (May–Aug) season. Peak travel period is May–Jul. As in other Brazilian cities, Carnaval (dates vary, Feb/Mar) is a big deal, and hotels get booked up well ahead.
