Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” and taking more trips together and finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and travel hacking over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this YouTube channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling. So we extended our 1 year trip to THREE years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before 2020! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)
Istanbul, Turkey: Travel Vlog | Hop-on Hop-off Bus Tour
#istanbul #turkey #familybonding2019
We did a hop-on hop-off bus tour which took us most of the tourist spot in Istanbul.
We visited Dolambaçhe Palace, crossed over the Bosphorous Bridge that connects Asia and Europe.
The ticket cost us 200 Turkish Lira/ each but it's good for 48 hrs, in which you can do the Blue Line as well.
If you don't want to worry about your tour and don't know where to go, better take the bus tour which is located at Sultanahmet Square. You can just relax and get off in any tourist location and the bus will be there every 30 mins.
Turkey - Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, a new world record for Freyssinet cables
The Yavuz Sultan Selim hybrid cable-stayed suspension bridge located north of Istanbul and designed by engineers Jean-François Klein and Michel Virlogeux has a total length of 2,164 metres and its towers are 322 metres high. The length of its 1,408 metre main span exceeds the world record previously held by the Russky Island Bridge in Vladivostok, Russia, which has a 1,104 metre central span and is also fitted with Freyssinet cables. With its eight motorway lanes (four in each direction) and two railway tracks, the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge will facilitate traffic between Europe and Asia.
Road trip to breathtaking Cappadocia, Turkey (Sailing Nikau) Vlog 36
This is part two of our road trip exploring inland Turkey and its many world heritage sights. On this episode we visit Cappadocia, one of the most unusually beautiful places we have traveled to in the world! Cappadocia is known for its distinctive “fairy chimneys,” tall, cone-shaped rock formations clustered in Monks Valley, Göreme and elsewhere. Other notables sites include Bronze Age homes carved into valley walls by troglodytes (cave dwellers) and later used as refuges by early Christians.
We know a lot of people who have avoided Turkey because of its current political situation but we have found it to be a completely safe and hospitable place, in fact we really feel for the many, many family run businesses that are suffering from the lack of visitors now. Turkey is not only stunning it is also amazingly affordable - come see what our road trip was like and maybe you will want to visit too!
We are the Robbins family sailing on our boat named Nikau.
We are a family of 5. Our 3 kids are doing NZ correspondence school on board. They are growing to love it! What's not to love about 3 hours of school a day and then a different playground for the afternoon every day!
We've traveled from New Zealand to Sardinia in Italy to pick up our boat and we plan over a few seasons to sail her back to New Zealand.
We hope you enjoy following us on our adventures!
We would love to hear from you. Especially if you are interested in doing something crazy like we are! Maybe we can help answer some questions you have?
Thanks and enjoy.
We did the Red Tour in Cappadocia, Turkey!
Whilst the Cappadocia region of Turkey is well known for its incredible Hot Air Balloon flights, the region has so much else to offer!
We ended up doing two different tour days with Flintstones Travel and absolutely loved both days. There is so much to see here, it really is spectacular to see.
Flintstones Travel were a great option. They were well organised, the van was comfortable and had AC, our Tour Guide Verdat was GREAT and the food was fantastic. Best of all, the tours were great value, between US$30-$40 per day
Our lunch on this day included an All You Can Eat buffet (sorry, not shown in video) which we enjoyed.
Day 1 Red Tour (North Tour)
* Goreme Open Air Museum (best open air museum in Turkey)
* Uchisar - Castle Panorama)
* Pasabag - Fairy Chimneys Valley - Monk Valley
* Devrent Valley - Imagination Valley
* Love Valley
* Pottery Art Gallery - Tea and Pottery making class
* Avanos Red River (Rocking Bridge & Cafe)
* Buffet Lunch (Great for veg & vegans)
We highly recommend these guys for a tour if you are in Goreme, Turkey.

Join David as he shows you around the top 15 places to see in Istanbul! Istanbul is one of the only transcontinental cities on the planet, spreading across Europe and Asia Minor. As Turkey’s largest city, Istanbul is a bustling hub of culture, history and gastronomy – a cosmopolitan capital in every sense.
David begins in the oldest part of the city, the Sultanahmet District. He begins in the Hippodrome (circus), which served as the center of public life for the Greek, Roman, and Byzantine citizens. Present-day Sultan Ahmed Square has a handful of surviving remnants from ancient times.
Near Sultan Ahmed Square are two of Turkey’s most visited attractions, steps from one another – the Ayia Sofia (Hagia Sophia) and Blue Mosque. The Ayia Sofia is now a museum, but was built as an Eastern Orthodox Basilica in 535 A.D. It was a Christian church for over 900 years before the Ottomans used it as a Mosque for another 481 years. It was the largest house of worship in the world for over 1,000 years!
Across the square is the Blue Mosque. Its name comes from the blue tiles used to decorate the interior. Nearby sits the stunning 15th century Topkapi Palace that served as the home and governmental seat for the Ottoman sultans until the 1850s. A tour will reveal beautiful stonework and intricately decorated staterooms, as well as a crown jewel and Imperial treasury exhibition.
After the palace, David takes us to the Archaeology Museum to show us some of what was uncovered in Istanbul. Perhaps the most impressive thing on display is the Sarcophagus of Alexander the Great with its detailed reliefs depicting Alexander’s life of successful conquering.
Not too far from the museum is the Basilica Cistern – a damp and dark subterranean cavern used to collect water for the city. The Medusa heads were likely stolen from a nearby Greco-Roman city to support the columns. Medusa’s face provided a warning against anyone who dared to tamper with the water supply.
The next day, David heads over to the 300-year-old Cağaloğlu Hamamı for a Turkish bath. This Hammam provides full-service spa treatments including scrubbing, steam baths, and massages. Definitely a MUST experience when in Istanbul.
David then heads to the shores of the Bosphorus for a scenic boat ride along the strait. From the water you’ll get panoramic vistas of the Istanbul skyline and get to enjoy view of other areas of this enormous city.
After arriving back on land, David heads to the Beyoğlu District to beautiful pedestrian-friendly Istiklal Street, or “Independence Avenue” for some lunch. It spans about 1.4 kilometers and is the perfect place for shopping and dining. You can walk or take the Nostalgic Tram in either direction. The end of Istiklal Street takes David into the heart of Istanbul, Taksim Square. In the center of the square is the Monument of the Republic (1928) commemorating the formation of the Turkish Republic in 1923.
Onto the Galata District to see a Whirling Dervish show at the Galata Museum. This 800-year old practice of spinning is used as a physical form of meditation. It is a mysterious and beautiful site to behold.
You can’t visit the Galata District and not notice the Galata Tower. It looks over Istanbul and provides 360-degree views of the city, the Bosphorus, Golden Horn and landmarks.
After all that sightseeing, David works up an appetite so he heads to the Karaköy waterfront to enjoy a cheap meal with a 5-star view. Nearby is the fish market. You can’t get to the Karaköy or Galata without crossing the Galata Bridge. From here you’ll see the skylines of both Sultanahmet and Galata districts.
Lastly, David goes out to one of the most exclusive entertainment complexes in the world. Reina sits along the Bosphorus and offers world-class dining, nightclubs, and beautiful ambiance. Dress to impress and make dinner reservations so you can stay after to party!

ISTANBUL TURKEY: Cihangir Walking Tour
We created a walking tour around the popular Cihangir neighborhood in Istanbul Turkey. It took us to the very popular Taksim Square.
Taksim Square is considered the heart of modern Istanbul. And in the heart of the square is the Republic Monument constructed in 1928 to commemorate the 5th anniversary of Republic of Turkey.
On the square is a new Mosque. Construction on the mosque in Taksim square began in 2017 and was and still is very controversial. Many see the building of the mosque and stamping a religious identity on the square that was paying tribute to Ataturk, who fought for a secular state.
After that, we stopped by Ağa Hamami. Ağa hamamı is an authentic Turkish bath built in the mid-1400s. It claims to be the oldest Hamami still in use.
Next, we went on the famous walking street, Istiklal where we went to Çiçek Pasaji, an old theater turned hidden passageway of shops and restaurants.
Of course, no tour of this area would be complete without stopping at Galata Tower. The original Galata tower was built as a lighthouse. It controlled the northern end of the massive sea chain that closed the entrance to the Golden Horn, an inlet that joins Bosphorus Strait with the Sea of Marmara.
And we end this tour at Galata Bridge. Galata Bridge is the first recorded bridge over the Golden Horn in Istanbul. It was built during the reign of Justinian the Great in the 6th century.
We hope you enjoy this tour as much as we did.

“Let’s go” has pretty much been our life’s motto since we met nearly 25 years ago. We met in New York, moved to San Diego together, and married in Lake Tahoe – all within five months. When you know, you know – you know what we mean?
Now, after raising two adventure-seeking boys, we are ready to get out and explore some more. Our children have begun their lives and now it’s time to begin the second-half of ours.
We wanted a challenge and something fun, so we are starting an adventure of a lifetime. We’re calling it #60×60. Our plan is to travel to 60 countries by the time Kim turns 60 (that’s in 6 years by the way).
