Sailing Rio de Janeiro | BRAZIL | Bromelia Rio Travel
Your Rio boat tour will begin as you depart from the 1920s Yacht Club in Rio de Janeiro’s Urca Harbor. In full view of the city’s classic sites: Christ the Redeemer and Sugarloaf Mountain, we will sail across the bay towards the prominent suburb of Niteroi, so that we can get the best view of Copacabana and Ipanema Beach as well as get a close up look at Brazil’s most famous architect, Niemeyer’s, masterpiece museum.
Continuing our journey, we have the option to visit the Cagarras Archipelago, just one hour from mooring. This archipelago is formed by five islands and is home to wild seabirds, such as seagulls and frigates as well as other local wildlife such as dolphins and tropical fish. During certain parts of the year, visitors may have the luck to see humpback whales passing as they make their annual migration from the South Pole to the Abrolhos Archipelago off the Northern coast of the state of Bahia. We will then journey back to drop you off on shore so that you can continue enjoying your Rio trip on land.

Do you want to travel for longer without spending more? Do you have a fear of missing out on what the locals are doing?
Planning a Trip to Brazil is confusing because the country is huge, few speak English, and current, honest information is nearly impossible to find. Without proper planning, you will find yourself saying “That was not the trip to Brazil I had hoped for”.
I know the secrets of Brazil and I want to share them with you.
I] WITHOUT A TRAVEL CONCIERGE
You can spend months researching, only to email companies who never respond. Buy tours from businesses that don’t exist. Organize Airport Pick-ups that don’t show up, or arrive for your tour that is suddenly not in English!
50% of Brazilian businesses do not have websites as info is shared mouth to mouth. Google & Trip Advisor can’t show you what I can show you.
And your time is money.
I do not want you to waste your time and money sleeping in a hotel that has no charm, eat food that was frozen or visit overcrowded tourist spots.
II] WITH A TRAVEL CONCIERGE
You can maximize your time and enjoy a longer vacation. I have spent years seeking out a team of local experts and building relationships with the best Brazil has to offer.
Think:
An english speaking driver waiting at the airport to take you safely to your accommodation...
Experiencing a Brazilian Football Match alongside a local ...
Tasting the flavors of traditional Restaurants with a gastronomical expert...
Samba-ing the night away with live music at an underground backstreet party...
Spending the weekend swimming in the turquoise waters of a tropical island...
Together, you and I will curate an Easy. Authentic. & Relaxing trip, so you can just live in the moment. And best of all, if you have any questions during your trip, you will have my direct number, so you will always have everything you need.
WELCOME HOME TO BRAZIL.

Ilha de Gigoia - A day trip in Rio de Janeiro!
Think: delicious waterfront restaurants, jungle boat trip & just minutes from us...A hidden island in the middle of Rio de Janeiro! Bromelia Travel took the afternoon to explore this pedestrian-only island of Gigoia.
Ilha da Gigoia is located just minutes on the Metro from Ipanema Beach. It is a very tiny island, that takes only 1 minute to get to by boat. You take the metro in direction of 'Jardim Oceanico', which is also the same exit you will use to reach the Island. Exit the station at the Lagoon side (away from the Ocean). Walk down the alley that is directly in front of you once you exit and you will find a small dock. There will be plenty of boats waiting to taxi you across to the other side for just a few Reais (depending on which part of the island you are going to). It is a fairly residential spot, with sweet little houses. But there are some delicious Brazilian restaurants & local bars. For more information about local Rio excursions, please check out some of our suggestions at: bromeliario.com/local-rio-tours/. We will also be more than happy to take you there ourselves!

A Visit to a Tropical Brazilian Farmer's Market in Rio de Janeiro
Come with us to the Farmer's Market in Rio de Janeiro!
Every neighborhood in Brazil has a weekly farmer’s market in the major cities, sometimes even every day. This day will be very obvious, as you will see hundreds of people toting their classic metal ‘Grandma Carts’ down the streets, filled to the brim with tropical fruits, vegetables, fresh cheeses, farm eggs, whole chickens, coconut water, bromelia flowers, root flours and chilis. Here is a little tutorial on ‘how to market’ like a local in Rio de Janeiro.
Farmer’s markets are often located in large squares or ‘praças’. The day time markets start early around 6am and can last up to 14h in the afternoon. Like all world markets, arrive first for the best selection and last for the best price. So that I don’t make rash decisions based on hunger, I like to stop for a snack before collecting my weekly goods. A piping hot pastel and a cold cup of caldo de cana are a classic Farmer’s Market snack. They are found located in little stands with a red and white striped awnings. A pastel is a fried pocket of filo dough stuffed with either minced meat, sun-dried beef, shredded chicken, shrimp with catipury (creamy cheese), or hearts of palm. The good ones are fried to order and come alongside a cold green sugar cane juice that is pressed fresh every few minutes.
Now that we are full, we can begin our rounds. Until you befriend your vendors, it is best to do a loop to see what everyone is offering. While there is a lot of variety in Brazil, the markets are large and have many people selling the exact same thing for very different prices. In fact, it took me nearly 6 months of weekly visits to find ‘my people’. The farmer’s market can either leave you samba-ing home or feeling like you have really been taken advantage of. If you plan on living in the neighborhood, it is highly recommended to make good friends with honest folks fast. They will be faithful to you in price, if you are faithful to them with your business. But buying groceries is not just a transaction here. There must be an emotional component, or for a Brazilian, there is no sincerity and thus no sale. After talks about their kids, the small fight they are having with the wifey and the allergies we have from the weather, we can then make a transaction. There are some vendors that I enjoy so much, we often sit to have a beer together during the market. You might as well enjoy everything you do in life or what is the point?!
Every Friday morning we head to our own at Praça Nossa Senhora. We'd be happy to take you with us when you come to town.

What to do in Rio de Janeiro - Food and Arts Festival
Looking for something to do in Rio de Janeiro? There are incredible food & arts festivals happening all over the city on at least 1 or 2 weekends a month. They are often open to the public and offer incredible creative choices for food trucks, local artists, boutique shops, music and art.
Join us as we head to Lagoa in Ipanema (the lagoon) for a leisurely 7km stroll en route to the festival. You can also arrive directly there by cab, but the autumn weather was delicious, that we decided to walk. Once we arrived, we were dazzled by the smells of barbecue, wood burning pizzas, tapioca crepes and homemade sausages. Various bands play throughout the afternoon from Rock to Brazilian Music to Hipster melodies. There is also a collection of local designers who are displaying homemade jewelry, colorful bathing suits, house hold decor, art and even tailored pet wear.
The sun was shining the entire afternoon, until the colorful sunset made way for a warm night lit up by bistro lighting strung around the entire park. It couldn't have been a more lovely way to spend the afternoon, and chances are there will be one happening when you are visiting Rio de Janeiro. For more inside info please contact us and we can help you figure out where to go! bromeliario.com

Brazilian Carnival in Rio de Janeiro
Carnaval in Brazil is the experience of a lifetime!
Rio de Janeiro is known for it's incredible celebration. One of our favorite underground Carnaval blocos (a bloco is the generic name for a party that can spring up anywhere or can be formally organized. It is always comprised of music, most often a live band, & can have anywhere from 1 to 1 million people! They most often take place on the streets.)
We are going to the island of Paquetá, off of downtown Rio, to celebrate Carnaval in Brazil. Let the festivities begin!!! Carnaval is a 5 day long party that happens annually before Lent. The entire country of Brazil essentially shuts down for a celebration of life, love, the kiss, the dance, the drink, the colors, your happiness.
Rio de Janeiro, started practicing for Carnaval blocos about 1 month before the actual event occurs. In other words: Brazilians practice partying every weekend leading up to the famous weekend. In fact, some of the best parties happen before & after Carnival. This means you can visit Rio anytime during the month of Carnival & enjoy the moment!! If you have any questions about planning your trip, please contact us at Casa Bromelia at bromeliario.com. We offer package deals for the Carnival you want to check off your bucket-list!
Come with us to ride the boat & dance from door to door!

Why Move to Brazil by: Bromelia Travel Founder Lauren Quinn
I'm often asked why I chose to relocate to Brazil- this is my take on this incredible yet contradictory country and why I decided to move to Rio de Janeiro.
Everyday I have a different guest from a different corner of the world. We get to exchange culture, concepts and memories, while exploring the Brazilian city that is my current love. Living abroad is not always easy. Besides the obvious: missing your family, the food you are accustomed to, the friends that know your story and the familiar sites, there is the less obvious: redefining yourself, sitting alone with who you are, and integrating with a cultural routine that is not your norm. However, both the brilliant and the dull moments are what makes living life abroad so vibrant. From what started out as nine month journey, quickly turned into a lifetime. My comfort zone switched from the familiar to the unfamiliar. Some could say it has become a habit, but I feel my life has not allowed room for boredom or complacency. Life is constantly changing, but I am always the same. Call me an expat, call me a gypsy, call me wanderlust; but, this is just my path. The day-to-day details are exactly the same as anyone else’s, only the scenery and the language change. I still need a cup of coffee in the morning, no matter if I am nestled in the Himalayas or on Ipanema Beach. Living Abroad is the new normal, at least it is my normal.
This is my chapter on Brazil..

Nixom @ Boatparty Rio de Janeiro
Sábado 25/3 a Boat Party mais charmosa da peninsula de Buzios no Catamarã Libertas...
Paragliding in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil is known for its Paragliding! Its picturesque setting, including the ocean, the mountains, the rainforest & the urban landscape, make for an unforgettable experience!!
Paragliding is a recreational wind sport. It is as if you put together parachuting with hang gliding and out popped this sport! When you paraglide, you are essentially free-flying. You control the direction of where you are going by using cords. These are connected to the pilot’s hands, as he/she sits in a harness. Before your flight, you & your certified/experienced instructor instructor will meet up to go over important safety procedures, then you will head up to the top of a stunning mountain overlooking one of the last untouched parts of the Rio Rain Forest. No previous experience is necessary, because you will be flying tandem (attached) with an instructor. Since he will be controlling the cables, all you have to do is sit back & enjoy the ride. Careful attention is paid to the weather in order to ensure your safety. Your reservation will be confirmed the day before, the morning of, & minutes before the flight to make sure you will fly in ideal conditions. The flight time can range from 10-20 minutes, depending on the passenger’s weight & wind conditions.
Case Bromelia’s guest- Johnny from Los Angeles, California- always wanted to check that box on life’s must-do list! He paraglided off of the classic Pedra Bonita, a mountain located in the neighborhood of São Conrado, just 25 minutes from Ipanema. As you can tell, Johnny had the time of his life. Who wouldn’t? What was so remarkable to him, was just how quiet the city seemed from so high up.
Also available: Hang gliding & Rock Repelling

Is Brazil Safe to Travel To?
I get asked by nearly 100% of my guests, is Brazil safe to travel to? Both the international and local media portray this country in a very negative light. It is as if, the second you step off the plane, something terrible will happen to you. So either the dream of visiting Brazil, stays a dream, or you arrive with paranoia. Neither are good!
As a resident of Rio de Janeiro, I want to share with you a few basic guidelines that I follow in Brazil.
I have been here many years and understand that there is no exact formula for what, where or when to avoid. And while I know people that have had personal items stolen from them in the street, I have never experienced this personally. I do not avoid places I want to go to or live in a way out of fear. Life goes on as normal here.
I want to reassure you that we live normal lives, we have normal daily routines. You just need to remember a few details to keep you 'street smart' and then let go and enjoy your beautiful trip.
For more information about traveling to Brazil, please visit: bromeliario.com. And feel free to send me your questions! I am here to help.
