Places to see in ( Murcia - Spain ) Cartagena Calle Mayor
Its name was not always Calle Mayor, but had previously been called Rua Principal , and we have news of its pedestrian nature from the year 1590. Since its origin this street becomes the backbone of the city , since it acts as the gateway from the sea to the walled enclosure, the current old town of Cartagena.
Anyone who wanted to access the city from the port or vice versa had to cross the Calle Mayor, transforming it into a place of obligatory passage for citizens and visitors of any origin, condition or trade. This motive makes it a place highly appreciated by commerce to locate their establishments, by the bourgeoisie to establish their residences, by the military establishment to locate their offices, by the various bourgeois recreational societies to fix their headquarters, and by street vendors to find a good clientele. In this way, we can say that Main Street was thec of the civic and commercial life of Cartagena.
The eighteenth century brought the final design of its layout and construction of private residences of some aristocratic families, such as the Palacio del Marqués de Casa Tilly , current Casino, the Palacio de la Molina Family or House- Palace of the Admiral Seat . However, it was the nineteenth century and the first years of the twentieth century the moments of greatest splendor of this street. At this time Cartagena enjoyed a magnificent economic situation due to the rise of mining and local industry.
Many bourgeois families became wealthy and established their businesses, residences and leisure centers in the Calle Mayor, which became a street in the late nineteenth century . From this period date buildings such as the Casa Llagostera (1916), the Casa Cervantes (1897-1900), the Serrat Building (early 20th century) and the Casino (former Palace of the Marquis of Casa Tilly).
The Calle Mayor was also characterized by its numerous and varied cafés, where people from all classes and backgrounds gathered to talk about the most diverse topics, including politics. Most of these cafés were decorated in a modernist style , some of them exhibiting works by famous painters such as the Café Moderno, decorated by Medina Vera. Other well-known cafes of the time were the Imperial Café, the Café Cartagena, the Café Lion d'Or or the Café Málaga.
In the same way, the existence of private companies or clubs, such as the Botica (founded in 1855), the Liberal Conservative Circle, the Taurino Casino, the Peña Cartagenera or the Military Casino, are also worthy of mention . Some of these places are known to have served as a stage for the development of political plots, and especially for the organization of the Canton of Cartagena (1873).

Cartagena, Spain
Cartagena, located in the Region of Murcia, by the Mediterranean coast in south-eastern Spain, is a major naval station and popular cruise port. It has a rich history. It is also walkable, picturesque and very tourist-friendly. We also visited a picturesque cathedral in the nearby city of Murcia, the capital of the region.

Is this the bus to Cartagena? - wrong Cartagena as that one is in Colombia in Romancing the Stone, but I found a bus in Cartagena, right down the block from the walkway from the ships.
I took the €7 Tourist Bus (Bus Turistic) for an hour-long tour with audio commentary (with headset) in multiple languages. It provided an pleasant overview of the city, and took me to areas I likely might have not wondered to.
