Cambrian Heritage Railway Oswestry 2/6/2019
Cambrian Heritage Railway heads from Oswestry to gas works bridge to eventually link up to their other site at Llyncllys and eventually to run trains back to Gobowen.
Cambrian Heritage Railways - Last running day before Christmas.
Heritage Wet Weekend..This clip shows the resident steam engine on it's service to the new railhead. The running line has been extended to pass Gasworks bridge and now the cattle and walkers crossing, which is partway to the cattle creep. Notice the heated guards van and that the engine disappears under it's own steam, under the bridge.. The intention is to reach the brewery, by April 2020, at Weston where platforms and station are being built at this time. A very small clip at the beginning shows the new line to the cattle creep.
Cambrian Heritage Railways Llynclys & Oswestry 08/06/2019
In this video we visit the Cambrian Heritage Railways's sites at Llynclys and Oswestry on 08/06/2019. Trains were running at the Llynclys site only.
At Llynclys we take a ride on an interesting DMU hybrid consisting of Metro Cammell class 101 DMSL no 51512 and Ruston & Hornsby 0-4-0DE 'Alun Evans' numbered 11517. The line is short and runs from the base at Llynclys (just south of the original station) to Penygarreg Lane. We also take a look at the collection of stock at Llynclys including English Electric 0-6-0DH no D1230 'Kimberley'; Metro Cammell DMBS 51205, DMBS 51187 & DTSL 56055; and also class 08 D3019 (which interestingly never carried a TOPS number due to being withdrawn by BR before they were applied). Also seen are mk1s, and a variety of wagons and vans, many of which have been brilliantly restored, and interestingly a GWR siphon G looking in a sorry state.
At the Oswestry site we see the various items of rolling stock including some more diesel shunters, saddle tanks (many parts for some at least), mk1 TSW 4965, and some more wagons. I also included a shot of the huge station building which was once the heaadquaters of the Cambrian Railways before GW days.
I had been waiting to visit the sites of the Cambrian Heritage Railways for a while and am very pleased to present to you this video. The work done at both sites is brilliant to see and if you ever have the chance, do visit them. With large amounts of trackbed, and indeed track, still intact, I believe there is a lot of potential for the railway and the progress they have made is very exciting.
Hope you enjoy.
Cambrian Heritage Railways - Hard work over three days.
One day of three that concentrated on the running line extension to the new railhead at the crossing behind TP and thro' Salop Rd Bridge(GWB). The new drainage works for the crossing were carried out, and also the alignment of the southern line from TP to the cattle creep. Well done all. Note Ballast does not like rain and we do not like wet ballast..!!!
Llynclys 16.5.2015 - Class 101 Cab ride on the Cambrian Heritage Railway Oswestry

Cambrian Heritage Railways.. The line extension
The Tuesday gang fitted three panels from mile marker 19 today, towards Gas works bridge. First bit of video shows the panels just with rail in, from the cattle creep.... the major work of the tamper and all else will be done on reaching the bridge. Very damp today.

Cambrian Heritage Railways - Christmas 2018
The first Santa train of the year, now includes the carriage supplied by the CHR C&W dept last month and also the engine is in the correct orientation..Apologies for shaking, foothold a bit loose..ie.. a short video clip..The bridge has recently been returned to the CHR after repairs/modifications to allow train operations.....Notice the new lower trackbed level and the new ballast down from the railhead to the bridge.....
A DMU to Nunckley Hill
A trip on a preserved DMU from Quorn & Woodhouse station to Nunckley Hill on the Mountsorrel Branch, and back. These trips do not happen that often but I finally managed to get one. Unfortunately the trains were not going on to Mountsorrel Station due to limited clearance issues.
The Heritage Centre has a re-creation of a quarry as well as a museum and give shunting demonstrations with vintage wagons.
This was originally a mineral only line serving Moutsorrel Quarry and never saw passenger services.

Cambrian Heritage Railways passenger train using half of the new extension
The volunteers have extended the line from Middleton Rd bridge to go very close to Gasworks/Salop Rd bridge. Only half of it is in use due to more work required to complete the project. Look out for the dapper CHR Chairman.

The Tanat Vallet Light Railway : a trip along the line
The Tanat Valley Light Railway was a late-comer to the British railway system, opening under the provisions of the Light Railways Act of 1896 in 1904. It was 15 miles long and served the villages of the Tanat Valley for just under half a century, closing in 1951 to passengers. It continued for goods traffic until 1960 and, in a confirmation of an age-old belief of railway enthusiasts, the line over which we enjoy a train ride on a goods train in 1957, shows signs of relaying with new ballast and fresh lineside fencing: that belief, of course, being that BR would expend vast sums on lines only to use such expenditure as a reason to close them!
