Exploring St. Thomas & St. John records held at the Moravian Archives, by Dr. Paul Peucker
Dr. Peucker's lecture at the Caribbean Genealogy Library's 2015 Annual Meeting covers the overall scope and variety of records related to St. Thomas and St. John held at the Moravian Archives in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. These records span over 280 years of life in St. Thomas and St. John. They include records on baptism, marriage and death but also diaries and letters that contain information that can assist in tracing the stories of families in the Virgin Islands.

He reveals some of its little-known treasures in this lecture given at the Caribbean Genealogy Library in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.
Reconstructing the Social History of St. Barths
Dr. Julianne Maher, a research scholar, recently published a book entitled The Survival of People and Languages: Schooners, Goats and Cassava in St. Barthélemy, French West Indies. Dr. Maher's presentation at the Caribbean Genealogy Library, on St. Thomas, discusses the history of the island as it influenced the language and people of the island.

CE Student of the Month December 2013
Cristian Ayala is the Cultural Student of the Month for December 2013. Cristian gets an opportunity to help in the preservation of Virgin Islands History and Culture by volunteering at the Genealogy Library. Cristian spends 4 days a week at the library, Wednesdays & Thursdays from 3:15pm- 5:00pm and Saturdays & Sundays from 1:00pm to 5:00pm. He assists in a variety of ways. He helps capture photos of historical materials and families of the Virgin Islands to display on the Library's website, he helps organize and plan workshops sponsored by the library, and he assists individuals that visit the library with family history research using books, publications, the internet, and microfilms.
Cristian has help many locals trace their family history through Baptism, Marriage, and Death records, the Danish West Indies Census and Ancestry.com. He has developed a strong interest in his own family history and enjoys his time at the Caribbean Genealogy library ...... he even learned that his mother's maiden name is Jewish. This Virgin Islands student has enhanced his skills in categorizing and organizing but most importantly, Cristian expressed that he recognizes the importance of genealogy research and wants to continue learning about his own family so that he can tell other family members about their family history.
