Cathedral, Monasteries, Churches - Romania ✥۩♚۩✥
From Maramures to Danube Delta and to the Black Sea through Prahova Valley, the landscapes are incredibly beautiful: the mountains who are watching the waters, the plains, the riches of this land and people whose soul is awfully big. You need to know the soul of this nation, a soul who wrote, write and will write history, singing ballads and doina, a soul who cried, laughed, was mocked, suffered and who was joyful. The beauty of this country are described in the poems by Eminescu, Alecsandri or IH Radulescu, Fănuş Neagu and other and other great poets and writers.

With almost 20 million people, Romania is the seventh biggest member of the European Union in terms of population. Its capital and largest city, Bucharest, is the sixth-largest city in the EU, with around 2 million people.
After the 1989 Revolution, Romania began a transition towards democracy and a capitalist market economy and they have been part of the European Union since 2007.
The official language is Romanian, an Eastern Romance language similar to Italian, French, Spanish and Portuguese. An interesting fact is that the Romanian alphabet contains 26 letters of the Latin language. So, if you speak Italian, French, Spanish or Portuguese, you will be in good shape there. And of course, many people also speak English.
Now I gotta tell you, on my last Europe trip, Bucharest was one of the biggest surprises because of the:
- History
- Culture
- Sightseeing
- Food
- And Friendly people
- Bucharest is an ideal destination for you that love to visit a vibrant European city.
- I could easily spend weeks in beautiful Romania.
- Another good thing is that the Exchange rate goes far there compared to Euro (Their currency is called Romanian Lei).
HOW TO GET THERE:
- Fly to Bucharest Airport
WHERE WE STAYED:
- Radisson Blu Bucharest (outstanding hotel with Casino right next door)
- Right downtown perfect location
SIGHTSEEING AND TO DO:
- Old town (bars and restaurants, one of the oldest churches)
- Palace of Parliament
- Communism historic sights
- Walk Vistoriei avenue
- Romanian Athenaeum is the majestic heart of Romania’s classical music tradition
- Victory Street is a beautiful street
- Mosilor Street (for fancy coffee shops and lounges)
- Remember that you can also visit the historic region of transylvania or you can catch some sun in Mamaia Beach by the black sea side of Romania.
FOOD SPOTS:
- Old town has dozens of restaurants and bars to choose from.
- Lente & Cafea
- Energiea
- Vacamuuu
- Arcade cafe
- Torna Fratre
- Simbio
STREET FOODS::
- Dobrogeana cheese pie
- Pretzels (covrigi)
Remember, exchange rate is in your favor compared to the Euros and US Dollars.
To summarize, Romania is a beautiful country with lots of history, sightseeing, great food and very friendly people. Bucharest is a must stop in Eastern Europe!

Romania is undergoing a period of frenzied modernisation. The capital, Bucharest, has already been transformed and now President Ceaucescu has turned his attention to the countryside. Here, whole villages have been destroyed and communities uprooted.

Romania is without a doubt one of my top favorite countries. It was something I realized the moment I left the country to my next country. There is something about the culture, tradition, and spirit of this nation that has my heart. I spend about 2 and a half weeks on a self guided tour around Romania exploring many different cities including a pitstop in Chisinau Moldova. Here is how it went.
From the Ruse border crossing in Bulgaria, I arrived by cab to Bucharest to some really gloomy weather. Out of the whole trip, this experience was one of the most miserable, with tons of rain, overcast, and some winds. As for couchsurfing, my hosts couldn't provide me a key which made me walk around the city for 10 hours. Although It was a rough experience, I did find the city to be beautiful. At my hosts home, I enjoyed some local wine and homemade Romanian cuisine.
First time using Blablacar was from Bucharest to Constanta for only 29 Lei opposed to 50 Lei. Upon arrival, I was greeting by my awesome host from Spain and welcomed me into his apartment with his two other French mates. Together we roamed around Constanta on an unexpected mission to seek out abandoned buildings and structures. We managed to creep into an abandoned Synagogue, apartment building, as well as the imfamous Casino built in 1910.
On two other days, I walked around the Black church and enjoyed some peace and quiet on the beach nearby taking in the sound of the Black sea and taking in the fact that I've been traveling for nearly 2 months.
After a long overnight bus, I made my way to Chisinau Moldova, staying at a cheap hostel near the center. After resting for a bit, I had a delicious meal, walked around the city center, walked to the Circul din Chisinau, an abandoned soviet building, and enjoyed a sunset over the Valea Morilor park. Later in the evening, I enjoyed a movie with some Bucuria chocolate and some cheap Moldovan wine. Fresh in the morning, I caught yet another Blablacar back into Iasi Romania where I spend another day walking around the beautiful city until my host got off work. With her, I enjoyed some Moldovan wine I bought across the border and had some more delicious cuisine.
This wraps up the first half of my journey and only prepares me for an incredible continued voyage across more of Romania as well as the rest of the Balkans. :) Noroc

THE STORY
The Csavossy mausoleum church is a unique location takes takes your breath away .The mausoleum’s advanced degradation shows you that it did not have a very bright past. The mausoleum was built in 1860 by the baron Gyula Csavossy. It’s architecture perfectly imitates the basilica of the Hungarian town of Esztergom. The end of the Csávossy family was to come a few years before the fall of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. It began in the spring of 1911, when Josephina, the Baron's wife , died and was buried in the crypt under the mausoleum. In the autumn of the same year, Baron Gyula Csávossy passed away, his resting place being the crypt , where other members of their family are buried too. The descendants of the baron have sold their properties and some of them have migrated to Canada and never returned. Unfortunately , his inheritance was crumbled into pieces by administrative and barbaric measures. The first mayor of the town, named after World War II, profaned the noble family's graves, and all the objects , even the ones with low value, were stolen. Being caught, the mayor executed a 2-year prison sentence. Today , the church – mausoleum is in a state of advanced degradation, but at 12 o'clock and at funerals, the bells still toll with nostalgia, in memory of their golden days

STORYLINE
Orthodox Christians in Romania were on Friday preparing for Easter, the holiest day in their Calendar year.
Girls dressed in traditional costumes called the faithful to prayer to a local Bucharest church on Orthodox Good Friday, the day which commemorates the crucifixion and death of Jesus.
As Orthodox Christians cleaned their houses and gardens in preparation for Easter, craftsmen from all around Romania arrived at the capital to show off their traditional Easter wares.
Avram Rosca, who makes traditional wooden utensils, displayed his collection of wooden spoons and bowls while others were busy putting finishing touches to elaborately decorated Easter eggs.
Rosca said his wares were traditionally used as receptacles for the eggs, which range from plain coloured ones to those decorated with complicated, colourful patterns.
Easter celebrations, a blend religious and local traditions, typically include a spit-roast lamb dinner and a display of hard-boiled eggs, dyed red to symbolise the blood of Christ.
In villages outside Bucharest, lambs were already being slaughtered in preparation for Sunday's Easter meal.
Orthodox Christians use a different calendar from Roman Catholics and Protestants, so their celebration of Easter usually falls on a different date from the rest of Christianity and always after the Jewish festival of Passover.
