Something very strange happens in this video were I visit Castlerigg a 4,000 year old stone circle in the UK while on tour with my band. This is the raw unedited footage and you will notice very early on one of the guys asks Martin our road manage what this place is called, then the audio repeats. Since this is live straight to the camera I don't have any idea how this is possible. Then when it gets up to me with my hand upon one of the stones you can see me say something but the audio is gone. Right after that the audio returns to normal. I can't explain it but it's almost as if the stones wanted their name repeated. If anyone has thoughts or an explanation for this please leave it in the comments.

There are few stone circles in Britain in such a dramatic setting as that of Castlerigg, which overlooks the Thirlmere Valley with the mountains of High Seat and Helvellyn as a backdrop. The Stone Circle thought to have been constructed about 3000 BC. Filmed with the Mavic 2 Zoom drone, at the lowest height of 180ft to 400ft in altitude when filming.

Not far from Windermere is Stonehenge in England , it called the circular stonework . The stonework is a prehistoric relics supposedly made before 3000 years BC . Another day - another film. This time in the lake district. I was testing a revised gimbal mounting (previous one cable tied on, this screwed on), some distortion evident - need to fit some isolation mounts perhaps.
Filmed on a GoPro Hero 3 black at 1080p 50fps wide angle.
Apologies for the editing and filmography - I got bored as I expect you did too!
Trying to determine stability at altitude and get a feel for the clarity of the film. Need to work on smoother flying style. Takes a long time to descend from around 100m up. Need to try and shoot some stills at altitude using the wifi remote or iphone app.

Castlerigg stone circle near Keswick 4500 years ago
The Castlerigg Stone Circle is a spectacularly positioned Neolithic stone circle just outside the town of Keswick. It consists of 40 standing stones up to 3m in height, though the figure is often disputed and traditions dictates that you’ll get a different answer each time you count. Built 4-5000 years ago on a high plateau, this is one of the earliest neolithic stone circles in Britain and certainly one of the best positioned. It was one of the first scheduled ancient monuments as one of the 68 sites included in the Ancient Monuments Protection Act 1882. The stone circle was taken into state care the following year and in 1913, Canon Rawnsley organised a public subscription to buy the land the circle stands in and donated the site to the National Trust, of which he was one of the founders.

The Cav-Casia or today's Caucasus mountains (Pliny the Elder 's Natural History, 77-79 AD, called them by what the Greeks knew them - Kau-Khasis, the Scythians called the Caucasus - Kroy Khasis) , the Cas-pian sea, the Kassite Kingdom of Babylonia, the Kashi kingdom in Northern India, the holy city of Varanasi was the ancient Khasi city of Kashi, the city of Kashan in ancient Persia around which there was a Kassi tribe, the Catti tribe of Germany, the Casses in France, the ancient Celtic,the Ecossais, Cassi, Picts, Etruscans - all descend from this most ancient Khasi tribe. They were matrilineal & erected Monoliths wherever they lived for a long time. They also wore distinct tartan shawls. Today, the present day Khasis still maintain their Sacred Forests, refuse to sell their lands which have rich uranium deposits in spite of being offered huge bribes, have monoliths all over the Khasi Hills, build awesome Living Root Tree Bridges (MUST SEE), still practise their Khasi herbal traditional medicine, pass their surnames through the mothers, give their inheritance to the youngest daughter, preserve the world's oldest living religion and have a priesthood similar to the ancient Druids. Above all, many specially in the villages live simple but happy lives. Looking at them you would’nt believe that from the Khasi Hills was born some of the greatest civilisations of the world. Just like looking at rural Khmer Cambodians (descendants of the Khasis), you would not imagine that they set up the mighty Khmer Empire and the great, magnificent Angkor Wat visited by millions of tourists annually. Many Khmer words come from the Khasi language. 'Jngai' in Khmer comes from the Khasi word ‘Jngai' meaning 'far away' in English. 'Thmei' in Khmer comes from 'Thmai' or 'Thmei' in Khasi meaning 'New' in English and so on.
Many Khasis and Jaintias have become Christians converted by Welsh, Irish, English, Scottish, Germans, Italians, Spanish, French, American and Maltese missionaries. Castlerigg, Avebury, Stonehenge, Carnac Stones in France, Oyu Stones in Japan etc were erected by the Khasi /Cassi and their sister clans of pre-Roman times. Just as the wonderful Khmer people built the fabulous Angkor Wat, their ancestors, the Khasi or Cassi erected these Stones all over the world, wherever they traded and conducted commerce. Mention about the Cassi tribe is also made by William Camden, an English historian and by Charles Dickens. Sumar Sing Sawian, a Khasi writer describes the Khasis thus - Khasis As Pioneers Of Trade And Commerce In North East
The Khasis predominating the Khasi – Jaintia Hills and Ri Bhoi area of East Meghalaya are known to be pioneers of trade and commerce in North East India.
In the book entitled ‘Geological structure of part of the Khasi Hills 1854’, Thomas Oldham relates as following – “A large proportion of potatoes is annually sent from the hills, purchased by Bengalee merchants and shipped from Pandua or Chatak, now in Bangladesh to Calcutta. From the hills also, Calcutta and other places are principally supplied with pineapples. Also oranges known as Mandarin oranges are also shipped to the Middle East and other parts of Europe. The orange groves stretch for miles along flat ground, just at the base of the hills and are very well kept.”
The Collector of Slyhet (now in Bangladesh) Lindsay in the book ‘Lives of Lindsay’ volume 11 Calcutta 1849 described the Khasi border markets of 1774, the Panduah and Bholaganj markets as follows – “During a few days of my residence at Panduah, I had the uncommon gratification of witnessing a caravansary arriving from the interior of the mountains bringing on their shoulders the hills goods consisting of the coarsest silk from the confines of China, fruits of various kinds and the great staple was the iron of excellent quality. The tribes in descending from rock to rock, as represented in the Oscar and Malvina, in the present instance the only route was steps cut out from precipices. The burdens were carried by women in baskets, supported by a belt across the forehead, men walking by their side protecting them with arms. The young girls are handsome, not being allowed to use betelnut until after their marriage.”
In the ‘Himalayan Journal’, Sir Joseph Hooker, the famed botanist remarked as follows. “The Khasi coal is excellent for many purposes. It was of the first quality and gave great heat and few ashes.” About the Khasi limestone, Thomas Oldham remarked – “Much of this limestone would produce durable and occasionally handsomely veined marble. It would answer well for ordinary purposes, chimney pieces, slabs for tables, garden seats and for flooring tiles.”
In the book ‘The history and civilisation of the people of Assam to the Twelfth Century AD’, it was remarked that – “The Khasis knew the art of manufacturing gun powder from sulphur, saltpeter and charcoal.” It may be mentioned that the Jaintia Rajas had cannons. These people in ancient times discovered gun powder and guns which passed on to Assam to Pegu and from Pegu to China.
Because of these trade relationships, the Khasis also maintained diplomatic relations with China as referred to in the ‘Journal of Assam Research Society 1939, Volume 111, p 13 – 14’, Alan Wilson recorded the findings. “In the ancient times the Khasis were a much powerful people than they have ever been since the British had any connections with India and their customs were enforced on or copied by the neighbouring tribes. There is reason to believe that they sent an embassy to China sometime in the 16th century for it is on record that an embassy to China in Peking headed by a man named U Ai, which is essentially a Khasi name, and some twelve months ago, a small metal slab was obtained in Nowgong which adjoins the north side of the Khasi Hills, which is a Chinese credential of some sort. It is made of copper plated with gold, in the shape of a knife board, about five inches long, two and a half wide and one inch thick.
The most dependable bridges were the rubber root trees, tendrils of trees growing on opposite banks joined together, developing in girth and strength and which have resulted in truly ‘Living Bridges’ which remain to this day, bridging the flourishing past with the present competitive world of selling and buying.

We saw the Castlerigg Stone Circle whilst visiting Keswick in 2016. Fascinating to see and it is estimated the circle was constructed around 3200 BC, making it one of the earliest stone circles in Britain and possibly in Europe. According to Wikipedia various archaeologists have commented positively on the beauty and romance of the Castlerigg ring and its natural environment. In his study of the stone circles of Cumbria, archaeologist John Waterhouse commented that the site was one of the most visually impressive prehistoric monuments in Britain
