City Road Methodist Church, Birmingham, England, Easter 1984
City Road Methodist Church has very special memories for all those who have worshipped there. In Easter 1984 a former church member, Lance Kinder, borrowed a video camera and recorded the morning service. He has kindly made the recording available to the church.
It is a rare recording of an inner city, muli-racial, Methodist Church from the mid 1980s. Copies will be made available to both the Birmingham and Methodist Church archives.
The service was led by Tom Bourne, a very popular preacher in the West Birmingham, circuit. Many others took part in the service including Maurice Hobbs, another local preacher. The message is as relevant today as it was in 1984.
This is the entire service, with just one minor edit where a member of the congregation gave a particularly personal testimony. We have incuded the sharing of the peace, the collection, a time of open prayer and a time of testimony. This is a unique record and one well worth retaining.
City Road Methodist Church continues to meet each Sunday at 11.00 am. You are welcome if you live in Birmingham and the Black Country or are visiting.

The Gay and Lesbian Community of Regina (GCLR) is requesting an exemption for Q Nightclub from the city's new smoking bylaw out of concern for its members, who they feel would be put at risk if they had to stand outside the club to smoke.

Me playing the fine Fitton and Haley 3 manual pipe organ of Queens Street Central Methodist Hall in Scarborough, North Yorkshire. The current church opened in 1923 with this instument been installed around 1925. The organ was originally built as a 2 manual instument with the addition of a 3rd manual been added a few years later. Both the Great and Swell manuals are Electro-pneumatic with the Choir organ been completely electric. I'm playing the hymn ( You are the king of glory).

Celebrating 300 years of faith in Birmingham - The Church which became a Cathedral
In the Town that became a city
For three centuries the Baroque gem of St Phillip’s – “the church on the hill” – has stood at the centre of life in Birmingham.
Originally the parish church of the newest area of the rapidly expanding 18th century town, St Phillip’s became the city’s cathedral in 1905.
This History West Midlands film tells the unique story of the cathedral, its central role in the modern city’s life and the world–renowned stained glass windows created by Edward Burne Jones.

Chicago Temple Choir UK Tour 1987
In 1987 I accompanied the Chancel Choir of the First United Methodist Church of Chicago on a performance tour of Britain with the intention of documenting the experience with video and audio. I was a Chicago radio news anchor and volunteered as an engineer in the Chicago Temple sanctuary sound room during Sunday services. I recorded the trip and upon our return a tiny portion of the performances were projected on a screen at a church reception. I boxed up the tapes and video equipment before making the time for the principal undertaking of editing them. Tragically, during a renovation of my West Loop loft, a fire destroyed a portion of a vacant apartment under construction in the building in which my possessions were being stored. Among the boxes burned was the box labeled England tapes. I have thought about the loss periodically over the years with deep sadness and regret. Last year, in retirement in South Florida after many subsequent moves, I took on the chore of digitizing old home movies preserved on VHS videos. They had been packed in plastic bins stacked in a storage room and the labels of many of them had dried and fallen off. I was shocked to discover that a handful of them contained video from the choir tour, both in VHS and 8MM video format. They had obviously been inadvertently placed in the wrong box and were not among those destroyed. I had the surviving tapes digitized and produced the video appearing here. I had used two video cameras and a 35mm still camera to document the trip. The pre-digital analog video has faded over the years, but the images from the VHS tapes held up a lot better than the 8mm tapes, which have lost a considerable degree of resolution and are quite fuzzy. Play in the highest quality possible. The good news is that the audio on all the tapes has held up tremendously well. There are gaps among performances because of the absence of some recordings, and several events that were filmed with two cameras are presented as a single-camera view because the companion tape was destroyed. On the upside, the editing tools I use in 2018 are light-years ahead of what was available to me in 1987. So I hope I have done some justice to the memories preserved here and I hope the links to this video will find their way to these travelers who are still living. Here then, is the result of one of the world’s longest-to-complete post-production projects. ---David Pollock (known to some by professional name Dave McBride).
Charterhouse Demolition - August 6, 2018
In gathered worship on Sunday, August 5th 2018, the congregation of Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church gave thanks to God for the story of Charterhouse. The building was named after a London school John Wesley (the founder of the Methodist movement) attended as a child. Built in 1961, this building served as an educational building for Gobin until 1983, when it was sold to DePauw University. We are thankful for this piece of our heritage, and praise God for the faithfulness of all those who have gone before us. We look with hope and excitement to the future!
