Oslo Nightlife: Grünerløkka
Check out the best bars in Oslo's finest bar district. This is where Oslo locals go to drink, well away from the touristy bars in Karl Johans gate and downtown Oslo.
Django is a jazz bar at the top of Grünerløkka, by Birkelunden park. They have live jazz performances Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Sunday. The bands are regulars, but there are different ones on different days.
Tea Lounge is a cozy bar by Birkelunden park.
Cafe 33 is a famous dive bar in Thorvald Meyers gate, at the corner of Birkelunden. It has recently been refurbished and is now called Sport 33. It's a great place to watch the game, they even have a 92 plasma screen. After dark in the weekends, the big screens go off and it's back to the good ol' 33 again. This bar closes at 3 am. every day of the week. When the other surrounding bars close earlier at 1 am. on weekdays, this place usually gets crowded.
Bar Boca was the first cocktail bar on Grünerløkka when it opened in 1998, and it's a real hipster place. The music is Rumba, Mambo, 50's, Rockabilly, Surf. You should try the Dry Martini, which is the classic Bar Boca drink.
Grünerløkka Brygghus is a micro brewery pub which has food and 21 beers on tap, where 13 of them have been brewed close by, on Grünerløkka.
Aku Aku bar is a tiki bar. Feel the tropical vibes while enjoying one of the three local beers from tap, or have a cocktail with in-house squeezed juices. They are famous for their rum based chili drinks.
Chair is Norway's only gin bar. They have more than 100 types of gin, and 9 beers on tap. The music profile is motown and funk.
Fru Hagen is a popular bar which attracts a mixed crowd. They have DJ's in the weekends, and dancing may occur. This bar has been here for over 20 years, so they must be doing something right.
Parkteatret is a bar and concert venue in an old movie theater by Olaf Ryes plass park. It's immensely popular, both inside, and the side walk bar which is overlooking the park. They have 10 beers on tap, and a cider as well.
Ryes is a 50's themed bar on the lower side of Olaf Ryes plass. They play 50's music and rockabilly. Lots of different characters come here, including bikers, most of the crowd are between 30 and 50 years old.
Rebell is an 80's themed bar which attracts all kinds of people. They play club oriented music, and there are new DJ's almost every weekend. They have 6 beers on tap, and a range of fancy drinks.
Memphis bar has more of an international crowd. It's a dance place, and they play mostly hip hop and R&B. Vodka Redbull is the drink of choice here.
Mir / Grünerløkka Lufthavn is an alternative bar, hidden away in a backyard in Toftes gate. There are lots of concerts of alternative music here, and the place has existed for over 20 years. You can play the foosball table in the basement, or sit in the old airline seats by the stage.
Qadis is located in a building which has housed some really nasty bars earlier, but this time they got it right. The new owners have completely changed the bar to a sports bar/cocktail bar. In the weekends it's more danceable music, and there will be a long queue. They have 7 beers on tap.
Glød is a chill beer and wine bar with varied music played exclusively from vinyl.
Hytta is another small cozy bar right next to Glød. It's the hang-around for local artists, and they play strictly vinyl of course.
Alexandria is one of the oldest pubs on Grünerløkka. You can watch the game here, and a cover band plays Rolling Stones etc. on Mondays. This place has the cheapest beer on this list.
Bettola is a cocktail bar at the end of Thorvald Meyers gate, right by Nybrua bridge. They play mainstream music, and they have fantastic cocktails. The furniture is exclusively Scandinavian from the 60's and 70's, and you can actually purchase it if you like.
Territoriet is a wine bar in Markveien. They have 450 different wines which can be ordered by glass, and they also have one beer on tap. The music has rock profile, and it's only vinyl (duh).
BD57 is the name of the BrewDog pub in Oslo, it's also in Markveien. They have pub food until 9 pm., burgers, ribs, and more. They have a new beer on tap almost every day, and about 20 on tap at any given time.
Syng is a karaoke bar by the Akerselva river. They have four karaoke rooms, and a large main area. In the weekends they play upbeat music you can dance to. There will be a line after 12 in the weekends.
Ingensteds and Blå are two nightclubs on Grünerløkka, by Akerselva river. Blå is the oldest and most well known of the two, and they are both very popular. Expect long lines after 9 pm in the weekends.
Party hard, and take care!

Minus5 Ice Experience - The Coolest Place in Town
Beating the heat can be a challenge. But one new experience is giving summer the cold shoulder. Located inside the Hilton on 6th Avenue and 53rd street, Minus 5 Ice Experience is the coolest new place in New York. Heck at minus 5 degrees Celsius, 23 degrees Fahrenheit, the experience is downright ice cold.
An entire place made all of ice, said Minus 5′s Chris Eldridge. The walls, everything. The chairs you're sitting on, the glass you're drinking out of, even the light above your head is made of ice.

MS Hurtigruten Lofoten Cruise Ship Tour - Hurtigruten's Cruises
English Captions Available!!!
MS Lofoten (call sign LIXN) is a Norwegian traveler and load vessel possessed and worked by Hurtigruten ASA. The boat was inherent 1964. After MS Nordstjernen was resigned from beach front administration in 2012, MS Lofoten turned into the most established boat in the present armada still in operation. It works travels around the bank of Norway and once in a while in the Svalbard archipelago. The vessel was secured in 2000 by the Norwegian Director General of Historic Monuments to protect Norway's social legacy. She has been refitted a few times—in 1980, 1985, 1995 and most as of late in 2004.
Numerous Norwegian waterfront traveler and freight boats were lost amid the Second World War, which brought about a need to revamp the armada. MS. Lofoten was the twelfth boat to be worked amid the remaking time frame after the war.
The boat was dedicated by Asbjørg Bergsmo on 7 September 1963 and was put into the Norwegian seaside course traveling northbound from Bergen on 5 March 1964.
Possession and port of call of the boat has changed a few times in its years of administration. From 1964-1988 the boat was claimed by Vesteraalens Dampskibsselskab (VDS). Its port of call was Stokmarknes. In January 1988 Vesteraalens Dampskibsselskab (OVDS) and Ofotens Dampskibsselskab (ODS) was consolidated and it made Ofotens og Vesteraalens Dampskibsselskab and port of call was Narvik. On 30 September 1988 the boat was sold to Finnmark Fylkesrederi og Ruteselskap (FFR) for 20 million Norwegian Kroner (nok), and its port of call was changed to Hammerfest, Norway. In 1996 the boat was sold back to Ofotens and Vesteraalens Dampskibsselskab (OVDS) and the port of get back to was changed to Narvik.
Somewhere around 1968 and 1982, MS Lofoten additionally flew out an express course to Svalbard. It made another trek to the archipelago in the late spring of 2007.
On 30 May 2001, the boat was proclaimed deserving of safeguarding, and on 2 February 2002, she was removed from the seaside movement, yet was reinserted in December that year as a trade for MS Nordnorge which cruised on a journey in Antarctica.[citation needed]
From 19 October to 5 November 1980, MS Lofoten was updated and modernized at Aalborg Værft in Denmark. The second lounge area was supplanted by four expansive lodges on the Saloon deck (lodges A2 400, 402, 404, and 406). As of now the boat transitioned from classes to no-classes. The principle motor was additionally redesignd amid the update.
The boat was again updated in October 1985 at Aalborg Værft in Denmark.
2014 denoted Lofoten's 50th commemoration and was praised on-board consistently. That year the port of call was changed to Tromsø. By its 50th birthday, the boat has voyage right around 3 million nautical miles, transported 1.25 million visitors, and docked more than 75,000 times in Hurtigruten ports.
It spent the month of February 2015 in dry dock for support and rebuilding. Beginning in April 2015 the boat will start a conventional administration like the administration style on-board amid the 1960s which incorporates 60s-motivated menus and retro-style regalia.

Norwegian Premium Cabin, London to New York - Business Traveller
Norwegian Premium Cabin 787-9 flight review with Tom Otley, Editor of Business Traveller magazine. This review is of the Norwegian Premium Economy service from London Gatwick to New York. In the video Tom looks at all aspects of the Norwegian Premium Cabin product, from the Norwegian Premium Economy seats to the meals and cabin service. Norwegian Premium is the Norwegian business class product. There is no Norwegian Business Class cabin, only economy and Premium Economy.
Read the full review here:
Video transcript:
- - [Tom] Well, here we are for our Flight Check of Norwegian Premium Cabin from London Gatwick to New York. This is on the new 787-9 from Norwegian, that's been reconfigured. It's a beautiful sunny after a lot of rain earlier on, now just getting ready to get onto the aircraft, and have a tour of it. There's the distinctive tail finns that Norwegian puts on all it's aircraft, short haul and long haul. There's a shot of just how beautiful this aircraft is. Can't wait to get on board for this eight hour flight, but first of all, let's have a look at the cabin. This is Economy on the new Norwegian 787-9s, the ones with the extra number of business class, I'm sorry, Premium seats. So these are the two economy cabins. This is the new Premium cabin of the 787-9 from Norwegian. It's what they call Heavy Premium, which means it's got more Premium seats than was previously the case on the 787-9 Dreamliner. This one has 56 seats in total, in a two three two configuration, which is A-C, D-E-F in the center, and G-J on the sides. That runs from row one to row eight at the back there, it's just one cabin of Premium, and then you have two cabins of Economy further back. The seat pitch, that's the space between the seats, has been reduced, so it now is 43 inches as opposed to 46 inches, so you are getting slightly less room than you did before, but there's more seats in the cabin. And the reason for Norwegian adding more Premium seats is they're doing better at selling them, than they thought they would there, they want to go after, I think, business travelers. And business travelers want more frequency on a route. So, as well as adding frequencies to certain routes, they've just added a third frequency to this Gatwick-New York route that starts in October. You're also adding more Premium seats, which is why you've got a larger cabin here. - And out, which is good to lean in, you know, then you've got this switch, pushes all the way back to here, lock here, and then the foot rest comes out, like so, and then you can push that down, and there's a little button, which is here, so, it's a bit stiff, you need to, - [Tom] Yeah, but you push it down and then, - Yeah so you push it down and it goes all the way out like that, so you've got a bit more of a fuller, - [Tom] And what's it like when this seat's reclined as well? Do you think there's enough room, or? - I'd say it's a little bit pushed, but, it's not impossible, obviously it would work better if they were all flat at the same time. - [Tom] Yeah. Do you do anything about stopping people, like doing that if I'm having a meal or do you just let them go? - Generally, if it was meal time, yeah, I would make sure that, I think most people especially on a day flight, are awake for the meal service anyway, so they would be sat upwards. - [Tom] Yeah. - So it's not very practical to eat like that. - [Tom] Yeah. - And then obviously, you've got a screen, which comes out, like that, and the tray table, which you then adjust, and come over. So right, I think it's quite easy to navigate your way around, and then obviously on the screen, I can't show you right now, but when it comes on properly later, you've got the, you can do the lighting, and everything from that, and then your call button, and you've also got it on the seat itself. - [Tom] Well, thank you. These are the headphones. - [Announcer] Ladies and gentlemen, please sit back, and we'll tell you everything you need to know about the service on this Boeing 787 Dreamliner. - [Stewardess] So we have three meal options for you today. We have lamb rump in a rosemary jus, with roast potatoes, grilled asparagus, and a mint pea puree. We have fried hake, so white fish, in a ver blanc sauce, which is sort of a buttery, vinaigrette sauce, with peppered cabbage, tomatoes and wild rice. Or we have roast chicken breast with potato gratin, grilled spring onions and a smoked red pepper sauce. Yeah, of course. And in the box we have a kale slaw salad and a chocolate dessert. - [Tom] So we're about an hour away from landing in New York. I haven't been able to shoot that much video while on the flight because the flight is busy, and obviously, you don't want to be filming other passengers, but generally, the flight has been very, very good. Nice and smooth, seat belt signs on a few times, good............
