Organised by the Priory Visitors Centre and The Charterhouse. Tour led by Roger Bayley ( PVC to The Charterhouse ) and then think it was a chap called Mark who guided us round The Charterhouse.

Charterhouse Fields Residents Lobby Coventry City Council
Local residents and supporters gathered outside Coventry Council house for a lobby of the council in a bid to save their fields from being handed over to Blue Coats school.
Charterhouse Residents Association member Dave, addressed the crowd.
The council were forced into a u-turn because of the lobby, the council will now look into the subject. Round two goes to the Charterhouse Fields group!

Hidden gem in Coventry to open to public for first time in 80 years | ITV News
Coventry’s 14th Century Monastery will be opened to the public for the first time in 80 years thanks to £4.3million of National Lottery cash.
The Charterhouse is a Grade 1 Listed 14th century Carthusian monastery set in parkland along the River Sherbourne, off London Road just outside the city centre .
Historic Coventry Trust and Coventry City Council have been working in partnership on plans to restore the medieval building, the walled gardens and grounds.

Charterhouse Fields Lobby Coventry Council - Dave Nellist Addresses Crowds
Local resisdents and supporters of Charterhouse Fields arrived outside Coventry Council House in good numbers to lobby councillors and save their fields. St Michael's Socialist councillor Dave Nellist had called in a special meeting in a bid to save the fields from being handed over to Blue Coats school as it becomes an academy.
Dave speaks to the crowd and outlines the options available to the Charterhouse residents ahead of the meeting that took place straight after the lobby. Because of the local campaign to save the fields (and a petition of 1349 names in a short space of time!) - the council agreed to review legal right to public use of contested fields used as park .
Proving once again that local people can make a difference!

Coventry is a city and metropolitan borough in the West Midlands, England. Historically part of Warwickshire, Coventry is the 9th largest city in England and the 12th largest in the United Kingdom. Coventry is 95 miles (153 km) northwest of central London, 19 miles (31 km) east-south-east of Birmingham, 24 miles (39 km) southwest of Leicester and 11 miles (18 km) north of Warwick.
Coventry Cathedral was built after the destruction of the 14th century cathedral church of Saint Michael by the German Luftwaffe in the Coventry Blitz of 14 November 1940. Coventry motor companies have contributed significantly to the British motor industry. The city has two universities, Coventry University in the city centre and the University of Warwick on the southern outskirts.
The only professional football team representing the city are Coventry City F.C., formed in 1883 as Singers F.C.. Nicknamed the Sky Blues, the club competes in Football League One (third tier of English football), but spent 34 years from 1967 to 2001 in the top tier of English football, winning the FA Cup in 1987.

On this day in history in Coventry - Broadgate COVENTRY
On this day in history in Coventry 71 years ago on May 22nd 1948. A 22 year old Princess Elizabeth came to Coventry for the first time to officially open Broadgate and Broadgate House.
If you stand beneath the elephant approaching the ramp to the upper precinct on the left hand side there is a pillar in front of Starbucks which commemorates the plaque.

In other news on this day 22nd May 1455 The 1st Battle of St Albans took place which would be linked to Coventry 4 years later when the Parliament of the Devils took place at St Marys Benedictine Priory and Cathedral Charterhouse In November 1459. Next time you are by the BBC look at the waterfall and the Parliament was held just behind and to the left of the waterfall above The Priory Undercrofts.

Charterhouse Fields Lobby Coventry Council House - Local Resident Speaks Out
Charterhouse residents and supporters were out in force outside Coventry City Council House and one of the many residents spoke to the crowd. A petition with 1349 names on was handed into the meeting and Charterhouse residents were able to force the council into a u-turn over the fields. The battle continues.....

Part 3 of a series of videos of monasteries that were dissolved by Henry VIII of England in the Dissolution of the Monasteries (Suppression of the Monasteries). From 1536 - 1541 Henry VIII disbanded monasteries in England, Wales, and Ireland. Some monastic foundations dated back to Anglo-Saxon England, the overwhelming majority of the 825 religious communities dissolved by Henry VIII owed their existence to the wave of monastic enthusiasm that had swept England and Wales in the 11th and 12th centuries.
