CHASEWATER RAILWAY SUMMER GALA 6th SEPTEMBER 2015
When one sees the lovely countryside of Cannock Chase and the almost seaside atmosphere of Chasewater it is hard to imagine that this area in South Staffordshire was once thick with coal mines. Today only the bridges, embankments and cuttings which still abound are witness to those industrial days. The most tangible reminder however, is Chasewater Railway, The Colliery Line, which circuits the west and north sides of Chasewater Lake. This year's Summer Gala was blessed with fine late summer weather and once again I had the pleasure of filming this most friendly of railways. Unfortunately the Andrew Barclay 0-4-0 'Colin McAndrew' failed and its diagram was covered by the North British 0-4-0 diesel but this in no way diminished my enjoyment.
This video is dedicated to my old mate Jeff Cogan who lived nearby and did so much for the steam preservation movement. He died during the night following this filming. RIP Jeff.

STEAM & DIESEL AT THE CHASEWATER RAILWAY 60th ANNIVERSARY GALA 26 5 19
Chasewater Railway celebrated, with a gala, 60 years since the first meeting in Stafford of the interested parties in forming a heritage railway. Although modest by Chasewater's recent events it was nevertheless most entertaining. The weather was not brilliant on the Sunday morning but the Met Office promised better during the afternoon. As I hadn't been able to visit recent galas I decided to brave the early rain...the fact that I live only ten minutes away helped in making that decision. As it happened the Met Office forecast was correct. I followed my usual practice of putting £8-50 in the kitty and rode the train from Brownhills West to Chasewater Heaths before walking the length of the line back to Brownhills.
Locomotives in service were: 2842 Kent No2, 2648 Dunlop No6, 3211 Myfanwy & 27876 North British, the former two being steam and the latter diesel.
As I have commented before the railway is known as The Colliery Line but equally appropriate would be The Friendly Line such is the attitude of the staff.

New Year Action At Brownhills West - Chasewater Railway:
The first event of 2019 with New Years Day action around the station & yard at Brownhills.
Also my first sighting of 'Myfanwy' in her new yellow coat and reconstructed raised cab....... looks very smart!!
Sadly, this was also the last event until March as like all heritage lines it's time for essential maintenance & restoration work.
Until then, I'd like to thank everyone at CWR for making me feel so welcome & for which I unashamedly promote them in these videos.
A Happy & successful New Year to you all
Note: If you want to see this line in full, my next upload features a realtime round trip with a difference.
